I hope that after this week the direction we're heading will be a bit clearer - NATO Defense Ministers next meeting in Wednesday, Draghi, Macron and Scholz in Kyiv on Thursday, and European Commision to give opinion on EU candidate status on Friday.

When they visit, Zelensky should ask Herr Scholtz for a few of these ;)

Very cool, thanks, but when I try to download it, Dropbox says that the folder is empty. Greetings.

That's very odd. Maybe someone managed to grab it rather than download it. Didn't think that was possible in Dropbox invites. It is uploaded again.

Was this guy real? I tough he was a legend to bolster morale. I have not seen any videofootage of any dogfight and no reports of any airbattle with the exception of this Ghost of Kyiv. So I asumed the ukrainians tried to avoid direct air encounters and used fighters to screen their ground attack planes.

There are lots of information about ground battles but not as much about the air campaign. You only see vids of russian aircraft shot down by groundforces.

Feels like a morale boost piece. Oryx has not even 40 confirmed aircraft downed, and many likely from MANPADs, so that one pilot would have 40 kills just seems unlikely. Nice story though.

  4. Someone posted some great artwork in the "How hot is Ukraine gonna get"-thread and I decided to make a menu mod from one.

    zHecoQe.jpg

Not in line with the game timeline, but I've seen some "Z"-mods around so maybe not that wrong after all. In the spirit of "Glory to Ukraine".

Get it from link below for now and maybe @Bootie can put it up on CMMODS.

We need to see more to be certain but the left side of his body was more interesting to watch, looked like he had no strength?

He certainly looks in trouble and reminds me of my father who had strokes.

The grip goes so maybe why he was filmed from that angle?

I’m thinking onset of Parkinson. Gripping the table to hide tremors, which typically affect one hand in the first stages of the disease.

Really well done artwork. I can see some candidates for menu screen mod for BS.

well from the info that caused that Regimental commander to commit suicide you may have to round down that Russian stock quite a bit.  That is if you want to count functional tanks versus scrap metal.  The reserve is apparently in really bad shape.

My question is not as much ”how many tanks do they still have”, but rather ”how many well-trained tank crews worth their salt do they have in reserve”? Probable answer: crap tanks and crap crews.

Yup, for sure all of this.  My "optimal" suggestion of how to wage drone war on a new scale is more aimed at people who haven't yet thought of how this can be scaled up by large and well funded militaries.  Meaning, in the old days the insurgent forces would blow up a rail line, plant an IED, conduct a tactical ambush, cut landlines, etc.  None of these things had any potential to scale up before they started to resemble standard military activities.

Drones, however, are showing their potential as universal weapons.  Not only do they function very well in an isolated environment, but they can be harnessed on a large scale in ways no existing conventional force is.  Drone swarms against ground forces being just one of them.  Establishing air superiority is another.  Denying freedom of action of naval forces is another.  There's just about nothing that is a traditional part of warfare that is theoretically can't also be done by drones and, in many cases, done less expensively.  Obviously practical issues exist and will exist to constrain drone theory's transition into military reality, but with this war I think we'll see a lot of effort spent on solving those issues.

Drones are also very well suited for the smaller scale wars being fought.  Think about taking a swarm of drones back in time to affect any battle in WW2.  The amount of drones that would be needed to affect a change there is unthinkably huge.  But in a war where entire offensive efforts hinge on a few thousand men backed by a few hundred vehicles... well, a couple dozen very active drones can make a difference.

I wonder if this new kind of warfare would benefit for even more mobile artillery systems like the Archer, to further expand the capability of taking out high value targets across a larger area of operations. Roaming around in the ”backfield” and called upon by whichever unit that needs its services.

Yes, I didn't think the hit seemed as intended.

The NLAW is a strange missile.  It is always designed to attack at a right angle to its flight path.  At this steep of an angle that would not be ideal at all.

This is one of the major differences between NLAW and Javelin.  Javelin has a traditional warhead in the nose, which means you can fire straight at a target (in LOS Mode).  NLAW's downward directed blast means it is not designed to directly impact anything.

    Steve

The NLAW has a direct attack mode and according to SAAB ( https://www.saab.com/products/nlaw ) it can be fired from a second story building without problem. Maybe the one fired in the video wasn’t set right.

Just saw this: Swedish Air Force jet deployed over Belarus border in threat to Putin.

It wasn't a fighter jet but it was a Swedish Air Force jet. The article said that Sweden is now also supplying some weapons to the Ukrainians.

We have already sent 5000 AT4 to Ukraine and another 5000 are on their way. It has also been suggested by one party that we should send the decomissioned stock of Carl Gustaf recoiless rifles, but no decision yet.

It's very strange though, because you'd think the Russians would have realised that in their other recent wars. Both about their ammo quality, their truck tires, etc.

But then again they seem to have an uncanny inability to learn from mistakes in this war so that could apply to the previous ones as well.
