  1. Thank you! I will look into it soon. But the discussion about if we can mod models to decrease crewmember vulnerability got me thinking. Say that my tests show that we can actually mod how likely casualties are caused - how will that effect PBEMs? If one of the players have a modded vehicle and the other doesn't - whose model is used when the turn simulation is resolved? Since the other player only sees his own side, there is no way of knowing if the other side has a modded vehicle that improves survivability. Or even has modded his opponent's vehicles to be more vulnerable. What is the limit to modding mdr-files? Can armor be reduced? Can optics be blocked? This can potentialle open a can of worms. I like to think that people will refrain from cheating, but in a competitive tournament, maybe someone is inclined to do so. I have no answers since I don't understand the 3d model modding process, or how CM uses models in the simulation, but it is definitely worthy of discussion as it is a means to tilt the balance in one player's favor.

When I get into testing I will probably start a new thread for clarity and link to it from this one.

  2. Been a long time since I played the SF2, but I have a memory of noticing this a couple of times - I think in the German campaign IIRC. Think I posted about it too. Checked closely for stuff falling off-map, but nothing. Just like what @mowen describes. Did some brief testing but never got to the bottom of it due to lack of time/effort.

As I said, I have seen mods do all sorts of wild things. Even, as my last post says "Things you would never expect were related. " That said, if you want to take a deeper dive let's open a Help Desk ticket and see if we can sort this out. Especially if removing the mods doesn't clear it up. Happy to help any way I can.

No. Not yet anyway. The next one will as it will contain PBEM++ and the tournament feature. But nothing in the v2.12 PBEM was touched that I am aware of.

Now I have a save of a first "turn" (without mods) that doesn't show a password prompt. Analyzing this save might reveal a cause for future corrupted files. The save is started by the German side, but I get the same with starting as Soviets. Should I open a help desk ticket or send the save to you?

Cool, thanks for helping. I will try to create a first save that skips the password prompt without any mods loaded and we can use that as the basis for a ticket. Unfortunately, I don't have the corrupted file as I deleted it when we tried to start the scenario again I didn't want Dropbox-folder (use CM Helper) with the same name. Tried to use Dropbox feature to resurrect recently deleted files but can't get it to work.

That was my first thought when I saw the screenshots. Over the years I have seen all manner of odd things happen from mods. Things you would never expect were related. It took a while of trying to figure out an issue before I would start with "remove all mods" and, when that fixed more problems than it didn't, it because my opening suggestions.

I can check without mods. But the first "turn" doesn't load the scenario, so I can't see how mods would mess things up then. It is just a popup with setting password and then you save. It is that step that I showed in the screenshot and is a deviation from how it usually is.

One question: did the patch contain any changes to how files are saved in PBEM games in preparation for the eventual Matrix release and their PBEM system? I have never had anything like this happen before in any game and this happened after the patch.

Is this too low? Or just right?

The model for the M4A2 75mm is basically the British & Commonwealth Sherman III with a few tweaks. Interestingly the CMFI model for the Sherman III (and Sheramn IIa) is actually sitting in the CMRT Data repositories in our game folders - must have been left there when the BF minions were porting the model over, it's complete with it's FI camo and all!

How can I get hold of your mods for some testing? Searched CMMODS and found some that Kohl had changed but moved the TC up from a too low position. I'll compare your screenshot to in-game when I get time, but it looks just about right.

My first turn in response to Dave's initial turn asked me to put in a password and return.  For the next turn, I had to put in my pasword and I'm now in the game proper.  Let the  tank fun commence 😉.

So, have you passed through setup and played a proper turn? In the setup phase for the German (starting) side the file from the Soviet side was corrupted.

Harrgh he beat me to it ...

Here's some proof of concept images - PzIV G (Late) TC was just begging for it (a head shot that is) we fix it in Blender ...

    Before ...

    After ...

    Haru84p.jpg

It's quite a simple fix - BF can have this one for £2.50 ... 😉

I don’t know much about the inner workings of Blender, but you can actually change the entire 3d model? That’s impressive. I just wonder if the underlying simulation follows suit? Maybe I’ll download your mod and set up some tests in the editor to figure it out.

And if you can change the 3d models, please add some protection for the poor HT gunners ;)

  9. To gently get this thread back on track - this is what the 3d model looks like if you clip through the texture layer:

    BQIBvOC.png

None of this can be modded so I can't see how modding textures would help other than making it visually pleasing.

Wasn't there a general adjustment to TC position in an engine update some time ago? Maybe just one of the older Sherman models dating back to BN or so slip through the cracks and we get this now?

  10. Has anyone been able to start this scenario as a PBEM and not getting a corrupted file before the actual scenario starts? Me and my PBEM partner has tried two times now and I did a start of the scenario as a PBEM without sharing the first file and there is something off.

If I'm correct - the order of files/actions is as follows in a PBEM:

    1. Person A starts PBEM and generate 001 as his password turn
    2. Person B gets 001 and does his password turn and generete 002
    3. Person A gets 002 and does his setup and generate 003
    4. Person B gets 003 and does his setup and generate 004
    5. Person A views the action of the first turn (004), makes his moves, and generate 005
    6. Person B views the action of the first turn (004), makes his moves, and generate 006
    7. and so on....

To me it seems like this scenario for some weird reson messes up the first step so that some kind of corruption occurs. The password stage doesn't occur immediately in step 1+2 but only generates save files.

Never encountered anything like this before and can't understand what is specific about this scenario.

Both me and my playing partner use CM Helper (but have other games ongoing without other people without a hitch) and we have the latest patch and we both have the battle pass and Fire & Rubble. Both on PC.

Paging @George MC as I understand you are the scenario maker.

Are ema-files worth sending for analysis?

  11. Is it really possible to port an entire model over or use Blender? Doesn't that just change the visuals and not the underlying 3d model and thus the simulation would render the TC equally vulnerable despite seemingly in a more proper position. Did you do any tests to verify that with the ported models? I checked some other M4s in other games and the TC's position is definitely lower.

Fitting that @rocketman would find the info on the number of rockets 🙂

Interesting. They have a lot left. Crap. Especially since they are using the S300 missiles against ground targets.

The tweet from the Ukrainian defence minister:

Obviously the above has generated a lot of articles - but they are all based on these numbers. I suppose we have to wonder how accurate these are. With the US and allies intelligence the UA may well have pretty accurate numbers. That doesn't mean we get the perfect picture here of course. But as it has been said before the UA tends to play it straight so there is that.

Last month the Australian Broad Casting company wrote this:

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-17/explainer-what-is-the-state-of-russian-missile-arsenal/101538356

Which has a lot less detail but seems to be close enough to the spirit. They are starting to run low but not out of their most advanced missiles but they have loads and loads of other less accurate ones left.

I'm not sure about the exact details, but the S300 is very inaccurate vs ground targets, not that the ruzzians care if it hits a residential building or a playground :(
