  1. No, if they were padlocked, you would only see LOS, rotate, and a few others, but no movement commands. Ross, have you tried using the hotkeys? Try using "f" for fast/run, "s" for sneak, "u" for assault/hunt, and the like. If that doesn't work for you, try posting this in the CM Tech Support forum, where you're likely to get guys that are better at computer problems than us game players.

Feel better now? If all you want to do is say things that you believe to be quite witty and insulting to Dorosh, why don't you do so in an e-mail? If you don't like him, fine, I could care less, but suck it up and keep your dislike out of the game forum.

I sometimes have graphical corruption after doing this so maybe it works both ways.

I get this often if I alt-tab in and out of a game mmore than a couple of times. Sometimes alt-tabbing out and then back in clears it up, sometimes the game has to be stopped and restarted from the saved game file. This could be a different problem though, as I've never had the symtems you described.

I am thinking about placing an obstacle in front of the train, not a tank or something. Trains that can't see what's around the corner will definately crash into something if they can't slow down.

If you read literature about the Panzerzug campaigns, you will notice that there are quite a few examples of trains almost colliding with strategically placed carriages (at various places in Russia and at the Dutch city of Zutphen for example).</font>

The coaches of the German national railroad were painted green.

I wonder whether there will be trains with mounted weaponry (artillery support trains, FlaK trains, trains with carriages that have turrets)

Armored trains were a comparative rarity and I don't think they'd add much to the game. Cars with AA armament were designed to protect the train during its travels, not fight a front line action.

and whether the trains are capable of moving/colliding with another unit.

No, you can stop and then restart from the saved game file.

Personally, I've only played with a time limit twice. Both times it was a two minute limit, which was a little steep. However, I think it added to the fog of war in that your orders can't be perfect every turn, and sometimes you just forget about a platoon on your flank in the confusion. Of course, time limits are harder on the attacker than the defender. 10 minutes is far too long in any case. 5 is a nice round amount, but for most games I would say no more than 3 or four.

  7. It happens when your units are moving, and the point that you want them to target is outside their periphery. You get this with moving vehicles like bren gun carriers, Priests, and assault guns where they can't target anything outside the angle of traverse of their guns while they are moving. If you cancel the movement order, you should be able to target things just fine.

Yeah, but you're named Captain Wacky. That means you're like, well, you know, Wacky and stuff ;)

In real life a fit and heavily loaded unit can do a lot of modest bursts of speed with quick recovery inbetween. But the laws of Human endurance shows that the longer you push without a break, the more time that is needed on the recovery end. And at some point the recovery period necessary goes off the charts (from the game's perspective). We didn't even simulate the latter. Think about it this way...

A unit might be able to do something like the following within an hour without seriously degrading their condition:

    20 half minute sprints *or*

    10 one minute sprints *or*

    3 two minute sprints *or*

    1 five minute sprint *or*

A lighter unit would have more "in them", a less well conditioned unit less.

Although I've just made these numbers up off the top of my head, the point is that at most the unit has about 10 minutes of running in it. The more the running is spaced out, the more likely it can get the full 10 minutes. The less spaced out, the lower the overall yield.

This is a very crude analogy, obviously, since cumulative daily energy expenditure, how long its been since food/water was consumed, how much rest they had since the day before, how long they have been in combat, what kind of stress they are experiencing at the time, etc. all play into things. All we can do is make a crude model that presumes that at least some of these negative factors are at work.

There is a big difference between what 6 men can do with a MG and ammo under prolonged combat conditions and what they can do in peacetime. Being well trained and fit can only make up for the problems of combat for so long. IIRC in WWII a unit was pretty much considered spent after about 4-6 weeks of combat. Meaning, that the veteran troops at the end of 6 weeks were closer to being as combat effective as green troops that were fresh into the battle.

    No balls.

Did you fix it? Or did it not occur to your lone cell that maybe, just maybe, you should do the right thing?

    Define "fix."

MLS beating Chelsea... I was upstairs with some soccer people doing a referee assessment. Was good to see some good out of the US after the fiasco called the World Cup.

    Rune

I had a front row ticket. Right next to the Chelsea section, of course. They quieted down a bit when a large group got ejected for underage drinking and other stupid English things. It was good to see the MLS beat the best team that money can buy, but the only goal was scored by a Canadian.

Obviously incapabale of thought, this reptillian's dropping candidate never figured out on his own that maybe, just maybe, I did not want web spyders to get my email address.

    Piffle.

This dwarf in women's clothing should be hung, quartered, hung again, then shot, stabbed and hung again. Better yet, whoever owns this cretin, send them to Sturmy and then to Bauhaus , and finally locked in a room with Seanachai while Seanachai is drunk and blathering on and on about whatever subject he is on at the moment.

    Bring it on, Mandingo.

I demand satisfaction, or I will break TOW and CMSF and make them late.

You don't have the balls. Did you make it up to the Chelsea/MLS game at Toyota Park last Saturday? I did. Nice match.
  11. What is your total force size? Are there any reinforcements for either side. That will help to determine how many battles should be fought.

The time slot is to distinguish during which time period the operation will start. 1st (Dawn) will start with a dawn battle, and depending on how many battles per day you have set, you can start the op at mid day, dusk, or even at night.
