  1. I recently had a rage quit associated with the infantry movement bug. I had a squad of inf move into a building 30 ft away that was occupied by friendly troops. Instead of running straight through the back door they decided to run around the building to the front, and since this wasn’t enough to take casualties they decided to keep running in a big circular pattern before trying to run back towards the front door and all got mowed down. Also in just about every mission I play regardless of which CM title I am playing there is the odd bug where one member of the team becomes detached and just sits in one spot not following the rest of the squad.

I seem to remember reading in one of these many infantry bug threads that this issue was resolved like a year ago but BFC doesn’t release small patches. I’d be willing to pay $10 for the patch so BFC if you’re listening hit me up because this is a very annoying bug especially if there is already a fix for it.

  2. Aquila I believe you are missing the point.

    1. In game terms it is really lame if the campaign is designed where on the first mission (of what 16), you have to drive through a small break in the berm, filled with mines. Mines that will destroy at least half your force. Makes it even worse when you have engineers with a mark mine ability that does absolutely nothing. Now in this particular case there is a work around, so it’s not impossible. Mind you this is a known to be mined location, says so in the briefing. My point all along has been if mines are in the game then there needs to be a way to defeat them.

    2. Real world situation non game. With a known mine field there is no way in hell any commander would have his troops just drive through it with the possibility of losing half his vehicles. Now an unknown mine field sure you can hit a mine by surprise. But in a situation similar to the one we are talking about no one would ever drive through a mine field it would be stupid. Plus, as the start of a massive invasion the engineers would have cleared a path through a known minefield.

Now I know someone is going to say “one time I heard of engineers marking a way through a minefield and a vehicle still blew up.” I’m actually ok with that happening one in a thousand times, but in CMSF if you drive your vehicles through a marked mine field, half if not more of your vehicles will still hit mines.

My main argument is, there needs to be a way to effectively deal with mines in these modern games.

What we really need are Mine-Roller/Plough/Bulldozer-Tanks.....In ALL of the CM titles!  ;)

    @Battlefront.com  Please!  :P

    Agreed!!!!!

Capt T I made the same point you did ages ago about mines being a in removable object in CMBN. Luckily for that game a vehicle pack was released with mine sweepers. I do hope that eventually engineers will be able to unarm a mine field  or at least a mine sweeper for this game. Especially for mines place on the asphalt of a main highway like the one in the first mission those should definitely be removable.

Pro tip: if you keep your vehicles to the extreme right tile after the engineer teams mark the mines you should make it through without an incident.

I'm still waiting for a response from Imperial Grunt to reply back. If I don't hear from him, I will start to fix the campaign scenarios and get it posted by end of next week.

Any luck fixing the campaign? If so where can I find it?

  5. How many T-84’s does the Ukraine Army actually field? I’ve looked online and from what I found it seems that they only field a very small number. What about T-72’s? Do they have any in service? I know the T-64 is in use but in what numbers roughly?

I know there are some members here that have knowledge pertaining to the Ukrainian forces and am curious to know their thoughts.

That's exactly how it works and exactly the issue.

In Abdul Gul's War I'm naming the Mujahideen Battalion (there are two) & the Company COs.....These are the characters of major significance to the story (Abdul Gul himself is a Company CO) and the demise of any of them will probably trigger a branch in the campaign script.

At present I'm doing some minor reworking to my big city map, bringing a couple of areas a bit closer to my current style.....With that done I'll remake the early scenarios to a new format (as discussed with @MOS:96B2P) to reduce the risk of a 'RPG Induced Rage Quit'.  ;)

I love your idea. But IMO, I think it would probably work better as a series of scenarios. Can’t wait to play it.

JTAC's are usually embedded with army units so its just a matter of that being the TOE. Plus they can be used to call in artillery and drones, so its not like those guys don't have a job when there isn't any air support available.

Yea but so are forward observers and they aren’t included in the mission. Point is, it’s strange to bring JTAC but leave FO.

  8. Hey boys currently playing the first mission and briefing says I have 120mm support from the outset. But alas there is none. Also why in the heck do I have a JTAC feller along for the ride when the briefing specifically says I won’t be getting air cover anytime soon. Why JTAC and not Forward Observer?????

Yes there is a mod that gives full color small arms and options for range and/or calibre as well.  Also, more detailed defensive properties of vehicles and penetration data for weapons.  AFAIR Marco Bergman made them.  I sent all these to Bootie for CMMODS IV.

I do not believe they have been uploaded yet, just search through tons of stuff and no luck.

  10. How does everyone else judge experience levels? Mine is as follows:

Conscript= taken off the street, handed a gun, shown how to load, aim, shoot.

Green= received some weapons or vehicle training but very minimal or a conscript with a little combat experience.

Regular= Received basic training in a modern military unit. Proficient with their equipment. Or conscript with extensive combat or green with some combat.

Veteran= Received basic training and in unit training with their team/squad/platoon/company/battalion etc. Very proficient with their equipment and good at their jobs. Very well trained. Or combat experience con/green/reg.

The reason I bring this up is because it drives me nuts when I see a western military force in a campaign or scenario etc with green or conscript troops (possibly the Russians as well but I am not familiar with their training requirements). IMO US forces should be nothing lower than reg and most likely vet. Not sure about the Ukrainian or Russians but I can see some instances where it’d be believable to see conscript infantry and green vehicle crews for the Russians and Ukrainians.

So what does everyone else think?

  11. I’ve noticed in CMSF and possibly CMBS that while doing buddy aid on a wounded saw or 203 gunner the squad does not retain the weapon. Initially I suspected that the weapon was destroyed as well but due to my poor leadership I have had many wounded soldiers and I have lost the weapon every time. Anyone else notice this???

  12. Do the Ukrainian T-84 tanks only have one round of APS does anyone know. Playing the Shield of Kiev campaign and had a tank go to close to a building. The tank intercepted one rpg round but another one hit the reactive armor. Wasn’t sure if the T-84 only has one or if my tank was angled the wrong way for the second round. I read somewhere that the Russian/ Ukrainian APS only works frontally.

I also seemed to notice the APS system wasn’t showing up in the equipment list after it fired its one shot.

  13. I guess I’m going to have to be “that guy.” I am playing the first mission of the US campaign and I have lost several Bradley’s to enemy tank fire. Due to the laser warning (which apparently freaks the Abrams out beyond belief) the Abrams are getting kills but they are not as dominant in my game as it appears to be in everyone else’s.

By the way I am using sound tactics and not rushing my forces around  willy-nilly. So to summarize it seems to me the Russian forces are better than I thought they’d be due to my reading on these forums.
