  1. Hell, I'm young compared to teh regulars around here... ;)

24 as well and started my CM career in 2001 when the BO demo came out. Or was that 2002? Can't remember anymore, the game NEVER left my HD and never will. Note: I'm STILL playing BO - and liking every minute of it!

  2. Well, my guess is the combat units painted their vehicles themselves - my reference pictures point in that direction - so there's a chance they used the same pattern on every vehicle. Sometimes the patterns seem to be factory-applied and therefore would explain similar patterns on different marks. But that's as far as I've come until now...

It's obviously difficult to judge whether or nor the captions under a picture are right or wrong, but most of my reference pictures come from reliable sources (as far as I can tell). The captiosn above is just what I could come up with and what my research allowed for. If someone proves me wrong, so be it. Camouflage patterns are a hobby of mine and I always try come nearer to the truth...

  3. Actually, a few come to my mind:

PzGrenDiv "Großdeutschland" - Eastern Front, June 1944

    sPzAbt 510 - Eastern Front, July 1944

    sSS-PzAbt 501 - Normandy, July 1944

    sPzAbt 505 - Russia, February 1944

And my all-time favorite (the pattern we should have had in-game):

    sSS-PzAbt 502 - Normandy, June 1944

There are a few other late pics I have, but those are 'hybrid' Tigers - and we'll have to wait for MikeyD to make us early turrets... ;)

  4. I always ask myself what I'd do if I were REALLY there. I haven't had any tactics courses and never been to the armed forces (and had I been they had made me an airborne sniper and lone warrior), so everything I can do I have taught myself. Considering that, I think I'm good enough. And when my 251/9 kills a Sherman at 1.5km with one shot, or my PzIV knocks out half a dozen enemy tanks wothout getting the paint even scratched, I'm rewarded enough. Not to say I've even lost Jagdtigers to FRONTAL PENETRATION (damn those April 1945 scenarios! ;) ) and every kind of stuff you can imagine. But I LEARN from my mistakes and not often make the same one twice...

  5. Actually, it's not true. Granted, they need a lucky hit most of the time, but I had Panthers knocked out by Shturmoviks which penetrated the engine deck or the turret top...

Further, i don't understand why you're angry - if your tanks aren't KO'ed ever, just play Germans all the time and make yourself a very happy player. ;)

  6. I understand perfectly. I did a lot of research concerning these little details myself. But referring to teh pistol port on a late Tiger I'd guess they are a so-called 'hybrid tank' - late hulls with early turrets (used by sPzKp "Hummel" and Tiger-Grupe "Fehrmann", for example) that were constructed form salvaged parts becasue there were no other tanks available. Would be interesting having one of them. ;)

What reference books do you have? More recent books should have all the Details on production variants and field modifications.

One last word of advice: If you're afraid of too many details, NEVER touch the Panther - you'd need about every book available right now to get it all right. I own nearly every available book and I'd never have guessed there were literally dozens of different Panther variants...

  8. I think I'm not that bad - but it depends. What I CAN say is that I'm too damned slow in taking some objectives. But usually that's because my infantry isn't as fast as my tanks - and I learned not to let tanks advance in wooded terrain WITHOUT infantry cover on the flanks. But, hey, sometimes it DOES work. Example: My PzIV's advance in the general direction of a crossroads when suddenly an AT gun pops out of nowhere and nearly kills one of my tanks. The back away and I rush a platoon of infantry in to flank the AT gun. It worked like in infantry school.

Anyway, if we really are good commanders is to be determined when CMC is out - then you have to bring your men home! Especially the German player won't be able to cope with high losses... It's not like some tabletop games where you loose 90% of your manpower and still win! ;)

  9. Correct, a brwon bear... On the one hand they were considered too dangerous and on the other hand a lot of hunters thought it to be good trophy if they hung a bear's head over their chimney... or the ultimate kill for a 'real' man... by the way, the same goes for wolves and eagles, though we have a few of them back.

It´s a pity, but we often think bad things are a good idea, don't we? We all should know, my country started two world wars not that long ago.

  11. Actually, it would be "BRUMMBÄREN" - and I should know, because I´m German. ;)

Anyway, I know what you mean, I already tried to figure out the details. Best books on the matter either by Trojca or Panzer Tracts, I think. But do the Tiger first, that´s okay. Will you do another Tiger II, by the way?

And, lest I forget: Do we get banned on this board for offensive language? :D
