  1. My mistake. The max range is actually 4800 meters. So, the max ranges are not bound by the "longest shot" available on the playable area.
  2. I believe you're right Hofbauer. And if I'm not mistaken in the screenshot capture supplied by one of the members, the max range of the 20 mm German gun was indeed represented as 2800 meters. In one penetration table I have seen (on the net) the German 88L56 is reported to have a penetration with PzGr39 ammo of 80 mm @ 30 deg. sloped armor at 2500 meters. very powerful, especially for the time period when the Tiger I tank was introduced.
  3. There were only a handful of relatively minor battles against the Soviet aggression in Poland '39. One of them was The Battle for Grodno.
  4. Sounds like it might be out of the scope of this particular game.
  5. Hey Sabot To the best of my knowledge, C:Panzers used a "health bar" system for tank damage modelling. I would assume this is still the case for your mod? What were the major things you changed with your mod?
  6. Thanks for the info, I'll investigate!
  7. I know that Battlefront is working on a strategy layer system for Combat Mission II. Has anyone experimented with off-line systems for tactical level games to integrate a strategy layer? I think that is something that could work nicely with a game like Theater of War, which seems to be a good basis for tactical level resolution. Maybe strategic isn't a good word, but operational level. Maybe starting out with an operational group "on paper" and drawing on those resources/units to play out the tactical level in the software in a series of set-piece battles until the victory conditions are reached? If I'm not mistaken TOW uses a "purchase" point system for units, but wouldn't it be possible to work around that?
  8. Never gonna get those figures now. Why's that?
  9. I'd have to assume that there are many games that have "scaled" engagement and penetration ranges to work within smallish maps. Unfortunately, you also get into things like having to scale movement speeds and other things as well to make it even remotely accurate (which it still isn't).
  10. Originally posted by SlapHappy: It's relatively easy to get a listing of '251 variants from several websites, but does anyone have info about approximately how many of each variant was built? yes. Great...mind sharing a link, or mentioning the book title? I'd be very interested.
  11. "personally, I like the techniques better where Kamikaze tank hunters would run up to allied tanks wrapped in explosives, or, better still, wait in a dug cave under the road with a big artillery shell and a hammer." Is this a reference to the Japanese pole-mine? Or is that something different?
  12. Is this the first WWII game besides CM that allows artillery/guns to be towed on-screen? If not, what are the others?
  13. The old and out-dated French 75? Was still probably quite effective against France '40 German armor. I wonder how much accuracy you got there against armor, especially it was actually more of a field gun.....

  15. In older gameshots before BF picked the game up, I believe I saw one of a German 81mm mortar crew in action. Of course, things can always be dropped from the game.
  16. I just got through looking at all the screenies. You've got to be kidding me......a decent war-game that actually let's you play with France '40 units? Did someone forget to tell 1C and Battlefront that all WWII games must be ETO '44 and somehow still omit about 50% of the vehicles available during even that narrow period? Thanks BF for picking this up, I've been following this one since the Codemasters days. It really needed to be fronted by a company that does wargames, not racing games. Good times........
  17. Perhaps more importantly: Does the game hit the CPU hardest or the video card? Or both? I remember from the launch of Soldiers Heroes of WWII how people with some of the best vid cards out there were perplexed because of poor performance when it was their CPU which was lacking. Some get so locked into FPS's where vid card performance is the primary decider that they forget CPU can be more important in smooth play in certain games.
  18. Hey MaddMatt Just curious, was that 150 troops of infantry squads plus combat vehicles and their crews - Or 150 total troops of all types along with gun crews, tank crews, etc? Also what is the test machine for comparison to others users rigs?
  19. OK, so if the Molotov coktails are so ineffective, why not just have the Russians invite the German tank crew to have "cocktails"? Then, once they're in the bar they can goad the Germans into hitting on the local bar sluts. One quick call to the crewmens wives and you get the desired result: Dead German crew........
  20. What's REALLY missing from wargames? That's easy! Not enough developers that really understand the slightest thing about real wargames...never played one (probably never will). Their only real concern is kissing the publishing companies posterior and pleasing a bunch of pants-wetting fanboys who's only concern is "will I be able to get it for my X-Box?" JasonC, you're right on the money with your analysis of wargames in general. Just go check out some of the inane posts on some of these other boards if you want to get a feel for what many consider a real "wargame" to be! Some of them are hilarious! If this is an example of the buying public, don't expect too many prizewinners in the future.
