  1. Thanks for the clarification guys. I had hoped given its wooden structure that demo charges would have been more effective and thought I may have been doing something wrong.
  2. Playing a scenario I discovered a pillbox while remaining undetected. I managed to sneak up behind the pillbox and tried to place a demo charge the way you would breaching a hedgerow or the wall of the building. It didn't allow me to place the charge in this manner. I did use the "blast" command to attack the pillbox but after using two charges the pillbox wasn't breached. I guess my question is is this normal?
  3. That doesn't work. Just comes back saying I need to purchase MG. I even reinstalled MG hoping that would fix the problem. Also every time I now start CMBN it asks for the number key again.
  4. Ok this is weird, I've installed the 3.0 upgrade and it doesn't see anything of Market Garden. The scenarios and saved games are all dark and not available. The 3.0 installation says it covered MG but when I boot the game it states I need it. I'm pretty sure this is something simple but I'm darn confused about it. Any suggestions?
  5. Ah!! Yeah that's what I'm looking to get. Beautiful stuff you do, many thanks!! So there is a lot of mods that aren't in the repository at this time for Red Thunder?
  6. I found myself with a weekend to start enjoying Red Thunder and thought the first step would be to see what mods are available out there. On checking the repository I can only bring up a little over 4 pages worth of mods. Figuring that by this there would be scads more I'm hoping the someone can help me figure out what gives here. I see many more in Beyond Normandy and am looking for the same types that I've used in those games. Thanks
  7. I really appreciate all you've done and am happy to contribute. I don't know the procedure for getting my contribution to you. Let me know what to do and I'll send it out. Thanks again!
  8. Always great to greet a new member! Welcome! Being raised out in the country we had acres and acres on which to reprise our own episodes of "Combat"; yep that old. I remember one Christmas my brother and I getting "walkie talkies" as presents; that really a enhanced our level of C2 in the squad. Great memories!
  9. Elvis, Bil, just wanted to say thanks for the show! I would love to see more like this, great game.
  10. Ah, yes that HQ does not have a commander, just a lone rifleman. I don't recall seeing this situation at the start of a scenario. Thanks much for the responses guys. This site is populated with a great bunch of guys.
  11. First let me beg forgiveness if I'm missing something simple here. I'm currently playing the Boy's Against Men scenario of MG as the Germans. Well here's the thing: I can not establish a comm link from the 4th platoon HQ, either to it's squads or up the chain to 2nd Ko. Distance has no effect as I have put the platoon HQ on top of the squads and put 2nd Ko on top of 4 platoon. As this the start of the scenario no casualties have yet been taken. Just wondering if this is accidental or purposeful.
  12. To say that I'm enjoying this contest would be a gross understatement. The only drawback I've discovered is an increasing lack of patience concerning the release of the game. Many thanks to you and Bil.
  13. Sorry I can't help you with your question Mord, but I did want to thank you for putting out some great mods I've recently installed after getting back into CM. Excellent work and much appreciated.
  14. Thanks guys, all taken care of and now just have to await the release day, thanks again.
  15. Ahh, ok that explains it. I've purchased most all of the Combat Mission line. I've suffered some computer problems recently so my purchase ID and password are probably lost unless I can salvage it from my old hard drive.
  16. While trying to purchase the new Normandy game I'm having problems logging in. I can log in to the forum under my user name and password but it doesn't recognize one or the other during the purchase process. I'm quite confused. Any help would be appreciated. Never had so much trouble trying to spend money before.
  17. Just wondering when we can expect the manual to arrive in the mail.
  18. I'm even more confused. While during the set-up phase in one scenario, some of my units leave a movement path while others are physically moved (transported) to another location using the same key. Just don't get it.
  19. Thanks Jason, I'm looking forward to giving these a try. I've often thought there had to be better tactics than I was using. Thanks again.
  20. Yes, that Bush sure is evil incarnate for perpetrating that WMD hoax on the civilized world. How could anyone not under the spell of far right groups even think Saddam Huessein had an interest in anything other than pursuit of cultural, and intellectual ideals? It is a well known established fact he cared deeply for and worked only for the well being of the people of Iraq. Those vile rumors and propaganda smears of him gassing civilians, torturing, killing and raping are totally implausible to all but the brainwashed. Lets for the record see who also thought Iraq had WMDs. Well MI6 is on record stating they believed they were there. The French secret service DGSE and the successor to the KGB also thought so. And then we have the Massad, but we all know they can’t be trusted either. That UN officials also thought he had a weapons program is irrelevant. These diverse groups were all conned by that idiot George Bush. ( kinda makes you wonder how the idiot always seems to mount these grand conspiracies doesn’t it? ) Presidential aspirant John Kerry is on record categorically stating his belief in their existence. And finally we have large numbers of the U. S. Congress hood winked by CIA intelligence and interviews of Iraqis that managed to flee Saddam’s paradise. But my personal favorite is the dire warning from the “never met a dictator we didn’t love “ peace movement concerning casualties when Saddam is forced to unleash his chemical and biological arsenal on U. S. troops. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude. Alexis de Tocqueville
  21. I've got my best people at Bletchley Park working at cracking this new, most difficult code. FYI they're not optimistic though.
  22. While I concur as to the quality of the books listed above, Albert Seaton's The Russo-German War 1941-45 should rank at or near the top. IMHO it's a well done, well rounded account of the war in the east.
  23. Just very happy for the both of you!! God bless and keep you both safe and healthy. The very best wishes from our house to yours. All the best!!
  24. Sounds like a good op, could you possibly e-mail it to me also?? The map alone sounds like a work of art. Thanks in advance.
  25. While I agree with most of what has already been said I thought I'd add my 2 cents. The Germans made a number of critical mistakes regarding the Stalingrad operation all the way from strategic to tactical. 1) Hitler’s decision to interfere with the movements of 4th Panzer Army at a critical point during the initial period may have cost Germany an early victory. 2) Paulus’ decision to bludgeon his way through the city instead of concentrating on ferry crossing sites showed a pathetic lack of imagination. 3) The decision to fight at all in a major urban area threw away tactical strengths of the Wermacht (command and control, flexibility and maneuver, small unit initiative) and played into assets on which Red Army thrived (great camouflage techniques, tenacious defense, good high volume fire power weapons at the squad level.) In short battle became much more of a man vs. man fight than Germans wanted or could afford. The Soviets showed a much better strategic grasp throughout the war than Germany was able to muster, though it would take much longer to achieve tactical parity.
