  1. Has anyone had much success assaulting a tank without special Anti-tank weapons? For example, an opponent of mine recently surrounded one of my Stug 42 Assault guns with at least two entire squads (20 men or so). They were throwing grenades and all but could not take it out. Is this typical in your experience?
  2. I leveled a building the other day with just a few shots from a Stug 42 assault gun (105mm HE rounds). I was shocked to see the thing completely detonate with two enemy squads in it. The explosion literally lasted about 5 seconds! Have you guys seen that before?! It was as if a powder keg was stored in there (or 2!).
  3. Alexei...BUY IT. It won turn-based computer game of the year for wargames. That alone should tell you. YES, it's not perfect and CMBB and CMAK are technically more realistic, BUT....it won a game of the year award and enthralled most of us long enough (and some of us still) to play it for a long time. I have them all and they are ALL great. Personally, CMBB is the best, but at any rate, each one SHOULD be an improvement over the previous if the company is worth anything (and Battlefront is). So, don't worry about the technical shortfalls, both sides have to deal with them and I don't think they are so noticeable that you can't greatly enjoy this game. Get it!
  4. Does it help in any way other than with "hiding" and "ambushes"? For example, does it have a beneficial effect when "sneaking"?
  5. I too am a new member. You have all spoken well of CMBO and I cannot agree more. The game is THE ULTIMATE IN WARGAMING. I also bought CMBB, but am desiring to become "experienced" and "knowledgeable" of CMBO before moving on. Believe me, I'm itching to get to CMBB, but I don't want to rush it as there is SO much in CMBO. I can't believe this game is already 4 years old!! Of course, I've started a CMBB scenario with a friend, both of us being amateurs in this "new" game, but I am focusing on "CM 101" before moving on to the "intermediate courses" of CMBB and CMAK. These are the only games I will ever be playing as far as I can see. I had two others I really enjoyed, but they became extinct overnight. GREAT JOB you guys at Battlefront! I hope you do get "filthy rich"....even if it takes some time. You have given many people there favorite recreation - WW2 strategy wargaming - in the ulimate form with nothing lacking! THANKS.
  6. To Yankee Dog: Thanks for the answer. What about this (will it work?): Pause order, Fast Move ("turn 1"); Target/Fast Move away ("turn 2"). Will the tank execute the move order on turn 2 after firing at the selected target or target area? In other words, will the tank fire for a certain amount of time before moving away?
  7. Sorry....typo. That's shoot and SCOOT! Scott has nothing to do with it!!
  8. While this is not an "order option" in CMBO, can you mimic this CMBB order in CMBO. I'm new to the game system and was thinking that a combination of move or fast move, then target, then move might work. I guess the target would have to be in my LOS first, though. Has anyone come up with a method for executing a shoot and scoot maneuver? Thanks for the help.
  9. Sorry guys. I got tunnel vision trying to figure out the order's usefulness by just reading the manual's description, but had NEVER TRIED IT!! After doing so, it was readily apparent that it helps you to see what you can fire at in order of priority relative to LOS, cover, and target-hit probability considerations. It's actually more of a "tool" than an order, but anyway.......THANKS!
  10. I may be a little slow but can someone explain the usefulness of this command. I mean, if a unit without fire orders will fire selectively at units without being told do so based on target-hit probability, threat level, etc., what does the "next target" order do? And how is it used; do you issue a "next target" order to several targets, one after the other, in succession (in the same orders phase)? I'm trying to see the usefulness of this order.
  11. Hi guys, I'm new to this aspect of gaming and not a techno guy. Please help me as the manual is not too clear. I am trying to figure out how to configure my Windows XP system so that "the TCP Port 7023" is open per the manual at p. 168. I know how to find my IP address. Any other steps to hosting an internet game with someone else who also has DSL? THANKS FOR THE HELP. Jim Lee
  12. Hey Guys: That flamethrower team (actually down to 1 man) survived several more turns and just torched an entire squad's worth of men by himself, sending up in flames his second building. Unfortunately, his award will be posthumous as a US Squad just arrived and shot him down after the building and US squad in it were torched. But what a performance by that team.
  13. Hey Orange, I'm a new guy but I have to tell you what happened to me in this regard. I was being slowed by a German MG team in the 2nd story of a heavy building in the Aachen scenario. I rolled up a "Priest" self-propelled 105mm. In three turns (6 rounds of fire, about) I set the building in flames; the MG crew crawled out and the died in the edge of the street. Seconds later the buidling was completely engulfed in flame. So, it seems like it is a good use of artillery (at least self-propelled firing directly). It was a joy to see that building go up in flames like that.
  14. Two more "newbie" questions: 1) when you have units crawling up a hill (or anywhere else), will they fire effectively or at all if a threat is in front of them AND can you order them to fire? 2) when you pause a unit in open ground, what is the advisable position to put them in if under fire and you don't want them to move (temporarily)? Should you "hide" or "crawl"?
  15. Happy to report the following: the M8 greyhound AC decided to stick around at the crest of the hill and blast away at the Pioneer squad. Well, I decided to run the pioneer platoon HQ and his staff right past the AC to it's right hoping it would spin and be "diverted" allowing the FT team to get off its shot. The AC ingored the commanding officer and continued ripping away at the pioneer squad. Well, that gave the FT team time to stand up and toast the AC crew anyway....and that they did. The "Info" box credited them with the kill. However, the crew which abandoned the AC was gunned down in 30 seconds by the platoon HQ!! What team work. I replayed it about 10 times. There was a lot of yelling. I think a couple of guys caught fire. This is too fun, guys. On the whole, in my first scenario, I'm doing fair, but can see I'm "one step behind" in most combat categories. But "British Tommy" is teaching me.
  16. that's true, Moon, technically speaking. I was thinking of France and Germany as "West Front", but yes, Italy is not "North Africa", though the Italian campaign sort of followed on the heels of the successful North African one; so, I think of them as kind of lumped together.

  18. Hey guys, I'm the newbie who posed the questions to the "posting member", British Tommy. JASON C. : I appreciate your input and knowledge. Fun reading. Sounds like you've served in the military or just read a whole lot of books on the subject of WW2, etc. FOR CLARIFICATION - I backed off of a hill with the STUG when I spotted the zook team. I thought that I would swing around the other side of the hill, stand off, create some fear, and zip HE rounds into the zook position. However, I wondered if I had "charged" the hill from the side while out of his LOS, would he have needed time to reposition, that is, swing to his flank. I would have been already pointing at him. THAT WAS THE REAL QUESTION. Well, it didn't matter, because, ironically, when I backed off the hill (at about 100 meters at most, maybe) he just popped up and blasted me!!! I didn't think I zook could get a 80mm penetration from that distance on a STUG 42 assault gun. I was wrong. The data windown for the zook team says 90mm at 100 meters with 0 degree slope. The STUG is probably 20 degree slope, no? And then that would mean the zook would have just enough to penetrate. Anyway, it was all a learning experience. Thanks fellas.
  19. thanks, guys. I'm sure I'd like the desert warfare scenarios and will probably eventually get the CMAK disc, but I still prefer the West Front, and then even more so the Eastern Front. So, I was hoping for an "updated version" of CMBO. Hey, that's okay. CMBO is just fine!
  20. Is it true that Battlefront will be updating CMBO (i.e., putting out a new version with added fire/movement order commands, etc as in CMBB)? Man that would be great. I'm hearing a lot of different things and was wondering if someone knew.
  21. Thanks, Sanok. I realize he could be reading it, I don't mind because I'm new and our scenario is a "training" scenario. He's a good friend too. However, in future games, there will be no such postings by me!
  22. Duh! My bad. I knew that; just forgot. I check my own units (German in this scenario I'm playing) all the time. Anyway, I'll load another solo player scenario tonight as the Amis and check it out. Thanks Redwolf.
  23. I was very surprised to lose a STUG 42 assault gun to an American Bazooka team. They popped up from a hilltop and nailed my tank at about 50 meters. I didn't realize a bazooka could penetrate 80 mm of frontal armor, and it WAS a frontal shot. The tank erupted in flames, too. Any confirmation on the realism of this occurrence? THANKS.
  24. Hi guys, kind of an anti-climactic result....so far. Apparently, he spotted my pioneer platoon FIRST and began engaging it. The FT team stood up to fire and then laid right back down. I think they are just out of range. And now he probably knows they are there. Interestingly, the AC got to the crest of the hill and then backed up a few meters! WILL UNITS BACK UP ON THEIR OWN (vehicles) WHEN THEY COME ACROSS A CERTAIN THREAT EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T ORDER THEM TO MOVE? Will let you know if I finally get these guys!
