  1. Thanks for the very thorough reply, Herr Schrullenhaft. I think the problem with the Dim 2400 and the Ge Force 5600 is that the Dim 2400 Dell machine only puts out 250 watts! The card requires more, I've been told. How can you get the wattage required to run a card? In other words, how do I know the Ge Force MX 440 is not going to give me the same problem on the Dell Dim 2400? I'm wondering if it's worth it at all to upgrade the card? The onboard graphics of the Dim 2400 are terrible though.
  2. That's my question. My Inno 3D GeForce FX 5600 PCI card has not worked in my Dell Dim 2400. I am sorely disappointed. Hauptmann Lisse and I are still trying, but it may have to go back. HOw's the GeForce MX 440 card for CM; good picture/graphics? Dell Forum posts are not too encouraging as far as the 5600 card goes......
  3. Actually, I was hoping for the Panzergrenadier with musket on horseback, but this IS a good mod.
  4. I would LOVE to see a US Civil War version of combat mission, or the Napoleonic Wars...something with muskets, bayonets, charges, cavalry and old fashioned cannons! Man, would that be cool!
  5. Thanks guys. Good answers. Helpful. I appreciate it.
  6. Thanks, Xerxes. So, to get them in range, would you suggest (in my example) that I "advance" them or use the "assault" command and THEN let them "do the rest"? I apologize to all for putting this post in the wrong place. I have posted a lot in tech forum this past week and just reflexively went there! Sorry.
  7. I am trying to figure out whether I need to tell infantry sqauds to use their Grenade Bundles or magnetic mines by using the target order or not. For example, if the tank is 30 meters out (like in the scenarion I was playing last night), and it has NO infantry support, and I have two infantry squads behind it, should I "advance" or "assault" with the squads AND target the tank also, or will just advancing or assaulting right up to the tank be sufficient? (in other words, will they use the weapons on their own?)
  8. One more thing, Carl. Herr Schrullenhaft's link to AMD FAQ, at FAQ 1.6 indicates that the operating system has to be re-installed to otpimize the AMD XP Athlon processors....will I need to do this? If so, will that entail reinstallation of everything else as well? good grief, I would like to avoid that at all costs!!!
  9. Good plan, Carl. Thanks for the responses guys. Typical excellent communication and details....and graciousness. Thank you from a computer dolt. Carl: it may be a few days before I get into the box, but I'll be in touch. Thanks again and let me know what scenario you've been wanting to play - I'll play ya.
  10. Hauptmann, That's pretty cheap, especially when you consider that I'll be almost doubling my processor speed, eh? What brand of XP2400? Does Newegg carry it? Will this help to reduce heat levels? Is this a tough project to pull off? (read: can it be done over the phone?) Thanks, my friend. And thanks Jack for your input.
  11. Thanks for another very helpful post, Herr. Does 333 DDR mean 2 RAM cards of 333 Megs each, for a total of 666 Megs RAM? You were speaking tech to me; I'm not very computer savvy.
  12. One more question, Herr Schrullenhaft: if I do want to upgrade but not spend too much, wouldn't an Athlon XP2500 "Barton" be a significant improvement? Newegg has them for $75.00. What do you think? and would the more powerful chip be better handling the GeForce FX 5900 card, or is there no relation between the two? Thanks for your excellent help. And yours, too, Hpt. Lisse!!
  13. Thanks for the excellent response. I'm using SiSoftware Sandra program's CPU and BIOS info to measure the temperature. I guess I'm okay then at 55 degree C. I would like to know what to look for though in terms of mounting a fan on the back plate. Hmmmm. Would that be something the SiSoftware program could tell me?
  14. Jack, I'd rather upgrade then go to fans and paste, etc. etc. Thanks for the idea. I didn't know that was available. Maybe Schrullenhaft, the tech genius, will weigh in???............
  15. DANG IT, CARL!!!!! I meant to say 55 degree C. I misspoke (mis-posted). The farenheit reading was 132 degrees. That equates to 55 degrees C. So, I guess I'm getting toward "warm", huh? I'll run CM tonight and see how much further the temp rises....THANKS.
  16. My AMD Athlon G7 1 GHZ processor is running at 40 degrees C. Is that too high? Should I be concerned? If an upgrade would help, I would appreciate a recommendation. I also just read something about CpuIdle - a program that reduces CPU temperature. The web site had a lot of positive testimonials. Maybe I could save money and just pick up this software instead of installing a new CPU? Here's my specs AMD Athlon G7 (761) processor, 1 GHZ 512 MEGS of DDR RAM Ge Force FX 5900 video card
  17. Where can you get an translation of the abbreviated German ranks in the various CM games? For example, the english equivalents of Obergruppenfuehrer, etc. etc.....
  18. My interest was in KTs being available in CMAK for West Front custom-made scenarios (i.e., battles designed for CMAK which were fought in France/Netherlands/Germany,etc.) It would be great to recreate anything on CMBO for CMAK with all the extras CMAK offers. I was well aware of KTs not having seen action in Italy. I understand programming priorities. Not being too knowledgeable in Computer Tech, I just figured I'd ask. Thanks, Rune. Your scenarios are very good, by the way.
  19. Is this possible, BFC? Difficult? It would be a very nice addition.
  20. GURRA, Your last comment I totally agree with. Excellent! I like to win too, but this is one game that is so pleasurable just to PLAY and SEE in front of you for all its historical detail and combat realism, that I don't care as much if I lose (and I consider myself very competitive). AND, I could not agree more with you about a King Tiger patch. It would make CMAK PERFECT - you could recreate almost all West Front battles except the Blitzkrieg operations in France in 1940. HEY BATTLEFRONT, HOW HARD WOULD IT BE TO ADD A KING TIGER PATCH TO CMAK?
  21. JunkDrive wins. Outstanding suggestion. I will hold back on $5 in travel reimbursement claims to my employer to make up for that amount of paper that will be used to print the manual. Great, simple suggestion!
  22. Great, Joachim. I will do the same: unconnect a cable if I decide to turn off virusscan (I guess I would be disconnecting the cable running from the router to the DSL box, right? or I could pull the phone line running from the computer to the wall jack also).
  23. Andrew, thanks. I could swear though, that I did ALL the tabs to find something related to color issues and did not see that option. Hmmmm. I'll check when I get home, but are your sure the HP 1000 and 1200 PSC have the same "advanced" options?
  24. Good response, Joachim. Thanks. One more thing. I have DSL, but I'm on a router. Will turning off Virus scan then be a problem? I mean, my understanding is that the router acts like a firewall, so it wouldn't be a problem. Is that right?
