  1. So many things to list here, so a few off the the top:

-a section for group orders, better way to give orders to move to a group like a platoon or company. This would really help large battalion size battles. You could even give a formation selection like column, line, ect and it would show the foot print like single unit orders do.

    - able to adjust already placed waypoints (been asked before a million times I know).

-in the leader's formation tab, clickable icons that indicate C2 at a glance. also c2 indicators on the floating unit icons.

-ability to attach and dettach a unit from a platoon leader and assign to another platoon leader. kinda make your own composite platoon size force on the fly and not loose c2. example - you want to attach 2 mg sections to a platoon but the MGs fall out of c2 as the mission goes on and they venture away from the weapons platoon leader. in RL the MGs would be under the assigned platoon command.

And now the big one that everyone's wanted since the beginning.....an operational command simmulation layer to augment the campaign system. ( I'd skip a module or delay CMSF2 for two years if battlefront could make this happen).

  2. Company size with support is the best for this game. halfway through the final strength and courage campaign battle and it's battalion plus.....a night mare to control. I switched to wego to help in my control and it did, but wego is sooo sloooow.

Would be nice if a designer could optimise large battles by splitting the maps down to 3 company sized maps to represent the battalion sized engagement. I would rather fight on 3 smaller maps each with a company than one massive map with the whole battalion.

  3. Missions difficult as these are not always realistic in the sense that if your forces are conducting a mission such as this you have failed to maneuver operationally. This would be one serious reprimand for a colonel or brigadier general.

In real world, a Lt Col or a Major at Battalion would order a recon or probe of the area, realize the enemy kill zone and go around or wait for the big guns like 155s or 215s to plaster the area. CAS might be possible, though it seems interdiction was more the allied airpower them in normandy.

Never should you cross a bridge under preregistered arty fire and mg42s.

It's missions like these that make me wish for more operational command simmulation during campaigns, just a simple 2d interface in between missions. Just something to give the player a chance to address operational issues that arise during a campaign.

  4. Just curious, I know there has been alot of talk on the AI accuracy with the 60mm mortars.

I just finished the bridge battle of the panzer marsch campaign, and out of know where an mg 42 and grenadier squad get pummled by a 60.

I'm fine with that, but this was at the last 30 seconds of senario end. When I reviewed the map there were no 60s around the area. It seemed when I use them as US, they seem restricted by range and whether they are in contact with the FOs or not.

I'm just wondering if the AI get's some arty handicaps to give it a chance.

  5. I bet it's a driver issue, I don't read German, but it looks like the hardware is good on ur computer.

I had a similar problem with my lappi which uses an nvidia 310m, I had to try 6 different drivers. I finally found one that is sorta playable, but still has problems....blurry text, poor textures and low draw distansce. My old laptop from 2007 actually performed better with the cmx2 engine, unfortunately it crashed.

  6. Deadly accurate sniper RPGs for cmsf balancing was really annoying. I don't want balanced, I want realistic. Impossible to do a thunder run or Blackhawks down senario because of this. I enjoyed cmsf / cma, but going back to WWII may really suit the engine well. The sides seem more technologically even in the WWII setting.

  7. You think that's clever? Insulting a classic game and encouraging others to do so also? At least the Matrix guys don't actively put down other games.

No wonder this message board is so arrogant. If life were a Combat Mission game, Steve would have a little picture picture in the lower left, and the leadership would be -2.

I bet when I take a sh*t in the morning I'm making more money than you. I'm paying cash for PC:O (I could get this game for free) and I will also buy CMN, but only when it is on Ebay for $5.

No offense; I hope your game is a success, because the genre certainly needs it, but please drop the attitude.

Take it easy buddy, I don't see any insult given by Steve. He was laughing at somebody making a joke about the dated 2d close combat graphics, what's wrong with that? I mean it's true, the spritetards do slither across the screen in a comical fashion. I personally refuse to buy those close combat games because of the fact that the graphics are the same 1998 technology.

  8. I took part in both Jasonc's kursk campaign and CMMC2.

Honestly the small Kursk campaign that Jasonc did was the only campaign I've ever played that accually got completed because of the small manageable state. It was also the most fun because OP turns were progressing and tac battles generated at a good pace that it definately kept my interest.

The CMMC2 campaign (the eastern front operation mars cmbb version) i was in seemed cool when i signed up, but it was so big and complex that it took a year to get going, then another year to get through the first few op turns and initial battles. Then it just collapsed, fell apart and never finished.

Something to think about if you want your campaign to be completed.

  9. Actually I like the idea of fleet management on top of the pt boats. I'd like to get this game but it's so dead in this forum it seems like a bust. I don't think I'll take the plunge on this til it's at 5.00 bargain bin price.

  10. I like the Idea of the St. lo game having solitare. These Operational campaign ideas usually center around multiplayer to make it happen which is fine, but I like the idea of a solitare system to play at your leasure. On the cmbn side it doesn't seem solitare play for QBs is well suited due to the AI scripting and no quick map generator ala cmx1. It would be cool if the whole thing could be run solitare both opeational and tactical.

  11. I'll play either side, got used to Germans from picking them for so many east front games. Just use me to fill the side that needs to even it's numbers.

I'd suggest using your thread as a means to get interest / poll. Once the game comes out start taking a more involved roll call for those who truly have time to play and pm them for email address.

Seems like your pretty far along organizing, we just need the game to be released already.

  12. I think the two bulleted points are the default situation. The number of additional activations is unlimited so I would presume that if you need more then you just have to contact BFC tech support and ask.

You know I had to ask for more activations because I had a harddrive fail and a reformat but forgot to deactivate in the same year. BFC did reset the activations, but they kinda scolded me afterwards which was really annoying....I let it go, but it is not very good customer service.....here we fixed your problem now take some attitude for your bonehead move. I'm fine with DRMs but I as the consumer need to know if I have problems with the DRM they will be resolved no matter what.

  13. No specific models to recommend (far too many in the market place to keep track).

I would suggest one with a 'dedicated GPU' of either the Nvidia or ATI/AMD variety. The other, much more common choice of 'integrated' video will probably work, but you will most likely have to reduce the graphics settings to get decent performance. All Intel video chipsets are 'integrated' and some ATI/AMD chipsets are also 'integrated' (video memory consists of shared system memory).

We've seen some problems with the Theatre of War series and the Nvidia Optimus line of dedicated GPUs (usually some of the higher end Nvidias for laptops). Laptops with Optimus Nvidia chips have an integrated video and a dedicated GPU. For power savings the integrated is run most times, but for a 3D game or DVD/Bluray video the GPU kicks in. The problem we've seen so far is that the GPU doesn't want to turn on with the TOW series and possibly the CMx1 series. I would assume that the CMx2 series (CMSF, CMA and CMBN) would work, but there is a possibility that there may be issues since the driver controls when the GPU is turned on. Hopefully in the future there should be a driver update to fix this issue. Right now I don't expect it to be a problem with CMBN, but until someone is running one, we don't absolutely know.

Regarding CPU, memory and OS. Windows 7 64-bit should be fine, though it is NOT a requirement. The 64-bit OS just allows you to address more than the maximum 4GB of RAM (CMBN will only use 2-3GB at the most, since it is 32-bit). The faster the CPU the better, Intel or AMD should be fine, though you may want to aim for the higher-end/newer CPUs. For memory 4GB and up should be fine. It's not a requirement to have 4GB, you could probably run OK on 2GB or possibly even 1GB, but you may be pushing it (though you're probably not going to find new laptops without 2GB or more of memory anyway).

Netbooks are probably NOT a good idea with CMBN. At the very least I don't think that they will fully work with the minimum resolution, which is 1024x768 since a number of them have lower vertical resolutions. The processors also are a bit on the anemic side for gaming (though they may run internet and productivity apps fine).

I got a new laptop and had the problem he mentioned. I've got the 2 gpu lapi, one intel intigrated for power saver, one nvidia 310m for games. When I installed cmsf there was sound issues and lag, I suspected it was running on the intel. I disabled the intel card and only run the nvidia card, plus I updated the drivers. The 3d performance is better, but now I got the weird / jumbled text problem in the menus and UI. I tried 3 different drivers but just can't fix the text, but the 3d performance is fine.

  14. Correct about it being a very bad thing to tailor the game's behavior towards an "outlier" situation vs. standard practice. I can't think of any 1st hand accounts of a TC using his SMG at close range. Turret mounted MG? You bet.

If a TC was close enough to hit something with a SMG that he couldn't hit with one of his MGs... panic maneuver would be a much more useful thing to do most of the time.

In fact, SMG/pistol ports were pretty standard on most German tank models early on, but not in later models. Why? Because they found them to be of more theoretical use than actual use.

    Steve

The Panzer Aces is a some first hand accounts of german tankers.

Also talks about a few situations where the crews fended off close assualt by russian infantry with SMGs and grenades. They were in PIVs and would fight from the top and side hatches. From the book it seemed pretty effective.

  15. Not sure if this has been talked about, but will there be any way to adjust the draw distances. This plagues my CMSF games badly, I've learned to get used to the invisible trenches from 50ft away....would be nice if it was fixed for CM:BN.

I did notice the trenches now will be above ground, but various other textures are constantly drawing at low detail from close distances. I am using an ATI 5870, but same problem on my Nvidia laptop.

  16. You will get extra options once the game is released, such as "download only" for example. There is no point in pre-ordering a download.

We are going to change the current Marines+Brits Bundle (aka "Modules bundle") into a Marines+Brits+NATO Bundle, but again, only after the game is out.

    Moon,

What if you have Marines but need Brits + Nato, will that option be available as well ?
