  1. I would like Company and Battalion icons to be slightly different than platoon hq icons. In the heat of battle I hate clicking every flag icon to see who is who.

I wouldn't mind having this, would be very useful.

Now that we have adjustable waypoints, we need them to be selectable as well like CMx1.

Also make draw distances user defined in the options. I have a beefy system (i5 ivybridge cpu, asus z77 mobo, 16 gb ram, 3 SSDs, and a GTX 690 GPU) built for DCS A-10 which is a resource whore, it would be nice to give it a work out with CMFI. I'd like to be able to render the whole map at all times, tired of all the funky texture switching on big maps at medium camera elevation.

  2. Other than the big announcements you've seen here, it's business as usual otherwise. Which means we don't show screenshots or talk details about something until it is ready. Probably not quite as quiet as we were about Italy, though ;)

The Upgrade, Module, Pack strategy opens up the possibilities to all kinds of things. However, we like to leave ourselves flexibility until the point comes when firm decisions need to be made. Specifics, order of release, etc. are an evolving thing and there's just no way I can say anything meaningful about future products beyond what I've already stated.

Thats why I like to shamelessly plug an effort to produce an operational level campaign feature. That way it's in your head that people want this. CMC caused quite a stir about the potential, too bad it didn't work out. I think many would love to see BF take a step towards innovation and try to deliver this some time in the future.

  3. They've offered their thoughts on this many times actually. That thought has always consisted of "Nope, we're not crazy." ;)

I guess it's out of the question for CMx2, but at some point I'd like to see it....maybe CMx3 where it could be done from the ground up.

The 2.0 upgrade is whats going to indirectly lead to me buying more modules. The improvement of game play and editor kinda make the modules seem less like cookie cutter releases....for me any way.

  4. This is all great news, I was getting worried that we would not get to the EF until 2016.

I would love to see a bone about BF's thoughts on developing an operational campaign system along the lines of what was attempted with cmc. This would be a great paid upgrade or something to think about for cmsf2.

  5. Question for anyone on the 2nd to last mission in the campaign. It is the mission where Kampfgruppe Engel must escape the Polish Division under cover of night and exit the map in the 70 minutes allotted. I did this with 5 minutes to spare, hit cease fire and yet the mission ended as a Draw and of course in the next mission my Kampfgruppe Engel is obliterated. What have I missed? Must I exit earlier? Evade more of the Poles? Little help would help be great. Many thanks! Such a great game.

I actually survived the finale battle with a reverse slope method, worked well.

  6. "Jap" is a slang term these days as you know, although I'm sure you don't intend it that way. I encourage folks to either spell out "Japanese" or use IJA (Imperial Japanese Army) where possible.

I'm not the hypersensitive PC type or anything but I'd love to get some Japanese (or Korean) players engaged here if possible, so it would be good not to be greeting them with racist epithets, even unintentional.

Your other points are really good but I'll have to say more later.

LLF I don't disagre with you here, you are totally right, but I doubt survivors of batan or thier families would care about being PC.

  7. Can't the designers just start making senarios last 3 hours, that way.... problem solved. Just add plans to cover the full 3 or 4 hours even if the senario may be ment to only take an hour and 30 mins. I hate being rushed by a ticking clock, it's very unrealistic to have all combat stop because of a ticking clock. Senarios should be resolved in a realistic manner, one side retreats / surrenders/ cease fires or is annihalated. A ticking clock makes it seem like a soccer match.

I would be fine with making the adjustments myself, but campaigns are locked. Designers would have to start offering up the senarios and cam file for use to make adjustments to campaigns. I am in favor of this because I primarily only play campaigns, so I miss out on customizing options you have with single senarios.

  8. Great Idea Broadsword, unfortunately I would get frustrated with tedious book keeping. It is disapointing that BF is against a strategic layer, but making BF more friendly to 3rd party software and eliminate the book keeping could be a major improvement.

I like the idea of import / export senario information, I think increasing the QB functionality to accept senario import / export info and generate playable battles could be the next best thing to a built in strategic layer. It would take major upgrades to the QB system like an auto map generator and an AI plan generator. All players would benefit from these QB improvements not just people using it with 3rd party games.

Noob, If you still need another player for your campaign, I'm game....looks interesting.

  9. I haven't played Pro PE, but I have played the original Steel Beasts. I'm sure there are some similarities between the two. It was well done and I can tell they did their homework on the functionality of the tanks they modeled. It wasn't really my thing though. I found it to be kind of boring tbh. I couldn't justify spending $125 on Pro PE due to my SB experience. If you can find a copy of the original SB, that might be a good indicator as to whether or not you want to drop the change on Pro PE. You may love it.

Steel Beasts Pro PE rocks, best modern tank sim out there. You can even play it as a wargame with large Battalion plus size engagements. I just got the latest upgrade that has a crewable t-72m1 and played for a month straight. My only complaint is that there is no crewable M1A2 SEP, the most advanced tank that is crewable is the swedish / spanish versions of the Leopard 2 A6. I would love to have a M1A2 SEP in steel beasts just to see the worlds best tank in action. The crewable version in steel beast now is the M1A1 HA.

The thing with Price is tough to get over but you will keep and play the game for over a decade, esim releases new content every year, constanly improving it. There are hundreds of senarios, great MP community, and one of the best editors i've seen in a game.

Money well spent in my book. Now if they would just make a crewable M1A2.

  10. Yeah, but it's tricky. The gun can only be fired a few degrees off its longitudinal axis and the towing vehicle has to be stopped so that it does not block the line of fire. This can work on the desert where you can see an approaching target far enough away so that you can get everything lined up right, but it wouldn't be so easy in the confined environment of Normandy. In fact, I have yet to hear of the tactic being used there.

    Michael

I've seen this as well, and come to think of it it was all footy from the Africa Korps. The fact that it was done in RL should be modeled though in CM at some point.

  11. Check this:

In CMBB, textures had less resolution, but remained reasonably equal at long distance.

In CMBN, although stock textures have a better resolution and quality, this is what happens as we zoom out a bit. 16x16 texture tiles pop, tile repetition it´s evident and horrendous, and everything looks blurry.

    Clipboard02-6.jpg

Is there no possible fix for this devs?

    Aris,

I really wish the graphics looked better zoomed out. Would be cool if the game had more options for users with beefey computers to take advantage of thier hardware. Would be nice to have sharp graphics in zoomed out view.

Does your mod improve on the zoomed out view at all or does it still looked washed out like the pic above?

Mod looks great by the way, nice work. After I install it I probally be spending more time zoomed in I bet.

  12. ^ You missed the point of my claim, in hypothetical terms, no way russians beat the germans on thier own in WWII. If sealion went down, America stayed out.... no pearl harbor, Germany tackles Russia on one front......They would be speaking german in moscow today.

We all know the history and how it went down in a RL. I'm just saying with out the Allies collective effort, no way the Russians would have even gotten close to Berlin. To me thats more of a Stategic Success of the Allies than a success due to great soviet tactics or operational skill. The overall Allied Stategic Level success is what set the Russians up for operations like Bagration or Berlin.

Hitler stopped the II SS at Prokorovka because the Allies landed at Sicily, not because the 5th Guards Tank Army decisively beat them ( infact it was the other way around, reports stated the II SS was ready the resume the offensive after Prokorovka, while the 5th GTA was pretty wrecked....but they served thier purpose....just wasn't pretty in a tactical sense).

  13. ^ The Russians straight up copied the STG44, the germans barrowed Ppsh41s, captured ZIS AT guns(for marder IIs), and T-34s which then led to the panther.

The German weapons were genious and innovative, just took alot more time to mass produce compared to many of the soviet weapons.

It took the Soviets until Kursk to get there act together and find a way to beat the germans. Even then it took until Bagration summer 44 to really begin to decisively take it to the germans. If there was no D-Day or battle of the bulge, I'd say 80% chance the germans fight the soviets to a stalemate in the east inspite of Hitlers Strategic blunders.

There's no denying the tactical and operational brilliance the germans had compare to the soviets. Russians basically out bled the germans is how I look at it, no tactical brilliance there....just straight up attrition. There were reports that the soviets were stretched pretty thin logistally and manpower wise while taking Berlin, fortunate for them thier opponet was only a shell of what it once was....whittled down from a 2 front war.

It took the bumbling Giant called the Soviet Union 3 years and Millions of casualties to develop thier war winning "superior strategy"....doesn't sound too superior to me, lucky for Stalin he had millions of russian lives to spend.

If the Russians were so superior, what the hell was up with thier embarrassing effort in the 1940 winter war.

  14. This hasn't been addressed yet and we are at TOW3 ?

I'm playing the US campaign and have thoughly beaten the enemy. I've scowered the map for the lone knucklehead holding up the ending and nothing. You guys at 1C can't add a auto victory mechanism or a cease fire function or something....come on....I've seen this bug since TOW africa.

It sucks cuz up until this point I was pleasantly surpised that I was having alot of fun with this latest version.

I guess i'm going to shelve it at this point, luckily i'm only out 5bucks from the gamers gate sale.
