  1. Did they rule out the Typhoon theory? I got to the point in the show where they showed the Typhoon rocket casing that was also found right at the Wittmann wreck site.

One of the investigators (a Frenchman, by his accent) suggested that a) they ripple fire and weren't very accurate, it would be very difficult to hit the tank and B) The Typhoon rocket weighs several pounds and if the rocket hit the rear deck of the Tiger, the rear would have been blown apart.

In my opinion, the Sherbrooke's did bag him. 143-150m compared to a 900+m Yeomanry shot, with Wittmann's Tiger being hull down because of the rise in the ground between his tank and the Yeomanry?!... please.

  2. A great way to illustrate the action !. Any chance you can post an elevated view indicating the positions of the various participants so we can better understand the batttlefield.

Do we get play on this map sometime, I surely hope so. I remember the massive map from CMBO " A day in August" or something similar. I played that map to death

    This looks even better

    P

"HSG N Wittmann's Last Battle" scenario was made for CMETO (CMAK modded to represent the Western Front). That is well done as well.

  3. Outstanding job, George!

That Canadian documentary about this on YouTube was fascinating -- it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck when the French farmer opened his relic room and there were Wittmann's throat mike, part of the turret floor, etc. And this is the guy who apparently found what was left of Wittmann when he was working the field in 1983.

Once they walked into the room and panned to the floor and showed the parts on it, I knew right off the bat that that jagged piece lying there was the piece of turret floor that was missing in that famous photo of 007 blown to smithereens. It was awesome to see when they digitally placed that part into the pic like a puzzle piece... well done.

  4. (PS: seriously: if anyone knows how icons really work, I could do with a lesson. I think the problem is that I started with a hi-res png of a smiley, whereas under windows icons are probably supposed to be a small number of colors. So the shading in my icon image gets all raggedy. If anyone has a suitable low-res or appropriate format smile I can start with, I'd love to use it. GaJ)

I just so happened to find these tutorials when I was looking for some graphics stuff the other night, they might be of interest to you...

  5. I used to play these games quite a bit years ago when they first came out. I started with Barbarossa to Berlin, which I felt was probably the most detailed and thoroughly enjoyable games made reflecting that theater of WWII. I then purchased Overlord, which I enjoyed as well, then Afrika Corps, which didn't hold my interest for very long.

I pretty much completely forgot about battlefront and the combat mission enterprise until recently stumbling across information on Fortress Italy. The engine looks vastly improved from the original game and to my absolute shock, it appears you can now play the game in real time. Playing combat mission style game in real time, with a full campaign was a dream of mine for a long time. I played a pen and paper style campaign someone on these boards came up with for Barbarossa, but that was the extent of it for me. So here's my questions if someone would be willing to help me out:

    1) How is playing in real time? Is it equally as interesting as the turn based system? And can you play real time in the single player game?

    2) How does the campaign work? Is there flexibility in selecting your troops? i.e. You have a pool of currency you can spend towards certain types of equipment similar to the way quick battles worked?

    3) Does your equipment/troops carry over from battle to battle during campaign, so doing well in battles has rewards and advantages?

    4) Is the game enjoyable/challenging as a single player?

    5) Can you alter the events of WWII in the campaign? i.e. Can the Italians win/the Allies lose?

Thanks for any input on this. I'm really looking forward to getting this game if some folks could give me some insight on it.

    My two cents:

Unfortunate about your lack of interest in CMAK, North Africa is my favorite theatre along with the Ostfront (especially 41- late 43). I love the North African battles (41-43). Hear that BFC!! hint hint :) Luckily I still love CMx1 (CMBB and CMAK) they are still spinning on my HD's for my other theatre fixes. hundreds of user made scenarios / operations that I have not even checked out yet, let alone RobO's great ROQC (a quick campaign generator layer for CMx1 CMAK and CMBB) available at CMMODS... so I will be ok until hopefully my fav theatres are covered by CMx2.

Thank goodness CMFI came out, I can only handle a few battles at a time in the bocage country, claustrophobia. I like my German optics to be used as they were meant to be used. :)

    1) Don't know I only use WEGO, real time does not interest me at all.

    2) As was mentioned, campaigns are linked scenarios with the direction of the campaign branching pending on outcomes in your battle.

    3) What ME mentioned in his post.

    4) Fun and challenging yes the AI is as I have not mingled with the H2H part of it.

    5) You may win the battles, no to altering the way WWII is decided however.

From what I have read on these forums, it sounds like making scenarios, let alone campaigns and the maps take a whole lot of effort and patients for the designer. So it may take awhile until the

scenario / campaign downloads are as abundant as they are for CMx1.

    Enjoy.

  6. As Elmar Bijlsma mentioned in another thread about Norton... and I totally agree.

Really, it is a terrible AV. Just about anything else is better, free or paid service. Having software conflicts is what Norton does best.

That you only have trouble with CMSF makes you the most satisfied Norton user in the history of mankind.

That highlighted part says it all.

I am now finished with my crusade as I have done all I can do for your poor souls, Norton users. :D

  7. Thanks, Blazing88's.

Just a reminder -- this scenario has no AI at all in it. So if you don't play it HTH, you'd need to play it as "2 player hotseat" in WEGO and play both sides.

Yes, those load and processing times sound similar to what I've seen. It amazes me that

a battle this huge loads and processes at all. So one of the things being tested is whether the battle will keep playing, or whether it will hang/crash at some point.

Yeah I did know that going in, I was more curious to see how my workstation would handle this scenario. I am not to worried about what or how the AI will do against me at the moment.

Actually the AI, as is, is doing pretty good job to be honest. It's not very organized, but it has taken out several of my Panzers.

I think I will keep going as is for now.

  8. Easiest fix is to trash bin Norton. It is a virus in on itself. It is the first thing I do when I purchase a new computer / laptop if it is installed on it. That and get rid of any easy access IE icons.

Get Avast free version (or pay for more coverage) and use Firefox with Adblocker (or Chrome is good I have heard). I have been virus free for years and never have the issues you are describing.

  9. Just some quick notes...

Bare with me here as I have never done this testing / input thingy before...

I have not had much time lately to test this out. I am plugging away when I can (WEGO against the AI) right now at turn 5 (Germans). I cannot commit to a H2H game for now.

So far, The load time to start this scenario the first time took approx. 3.30 min.

turn processing times at this time are usually around 1 to 1.45 min. Interested to see if this time will increase as this thing goes on.

Oops, the home page link in my OP is actually the download links area...

Here is the actual home page: http://www.historicalsoftware.com/ Impressive looking features. Also, note the Battle of the Bulge maps / scenarios in the scenario's section. When the CM module for that comes out...

That 'MILSketch' software for Military Operational Sketches looks like a cool program...

  11. ...Erwin - I'm sure I've seen

one or two of the pics in that slide show before - you could google. Or if you're desperate, increase the quality of the video, then pause it for a pic and do a "print screen", then open MSPaint and paste (CTRL + V). Then cut and paste the pic - I just tried it and it does work. From other google searches though, I can tell you that WW2 photos are often too small or poor to use as a splash screen....

Yep not to many Window users know about the "screen capture" feature. :)
