  1. Yeh, "Best of Both Worlds" part 1 and 2. I must have misunderstood. I tought he meant all of the episodes where the Borg were encoutered and not just the first one. I got confused by the "during the Borg episodes" bit. Cheers Ed
  2. Not to be picky but there was at least one occasion when it ws William Riker in command Cheers Ed
  3. I've just tested tuning best performance for background services. Good idea, but unfortunatley it had no effect. Still can't minimise. Cheers Ed
  4. The American AI definetly used arty when I played Axis. Unfortunately for them, it landed off the map by some distance on the right. Quite amusing to watch all the 81mm blow up absolutley nothing, not even terrain. Cheers Ed
  5. Use the PrintScreen button on the keyboard, just above the Insert button. This copies the screen to the clipboard. Then open Paint or Photoshop or whatever and then just click paste or Ctrl-V. And the image will be pasted. Cheers Ed [ December 01, 2003, 09:43 AM: Message edited by: Eddy ]
  6. I'm working in Southport at the moment and I've just seen - for the first time here - CM2 - CMBB that is. This place is not the centre of the universe. I didn't bother asking when CMAK was due. Cheers Ed [ December 01, 2003, 12:24 PM: Message edited by: Eddy ]
  7. Played this first as the Allies. Moved all of the infantry and engineers through the woods on the right flank because basically it is the only way for them to approach closely. I positioned the Shermans on top of the hill to provide direct HE. Also in the centre, on top of the hill in the rocks I placed one platoon HQ and all the mortars and spotter in command behind the hill for arty. On the left flank I used the Greyhound and the Stuarts to draw fire, which they did very effectively. That is, they died straight away. So I shifted the green Sherman to that flank and advanced it very slowly. I used the Shermans to destroy the large buildings, even if I hadn't spotted any enemy. Once the infantry were in position I used two platoons to advance across the field and the the other two plus HMG's to provide covering fire. They advanced nicely, one of the Shermans blew up the church with the mg in it and everything was going hunky-dory. Took the flag on the right, moved the infantry into position to cross the bridge when that damn Tiger turned up. By this time I had four Shermans left, one was blown up by a Shrek I think (incidentally great sound when they fire). So I used all four Shermans as target practice for the Tiger. I think it got three of them. Then the M10 turned up and by sheer panic and movement they just kept hitting the Tiger, which had advanced nearly to the bridge by this time, until the crew bailed out of it. Then I just kept running acroos the bridge to take the rear flag. Turn 26 Axis surrender Result: Allied Minor Victory Then I played it as the Germans. Result: Axis total victory. The only remarkable thing that happened was I moved a split squad into the woods to giving me a warning of when the Allies were approaching and also to try to disrupt the Allied advance a bit. They didn't disrupt at all and died very quickly, but they allowed me to predict exactly when and where to target the arty. It was absolutley perfect, as the arty caught at least a couple of platoons out in the open in the field which decimated them. The only problems I had as the Germans was ammo conservation on my left flank i.e. by the field, and what to do with a Stug who was in a near permenant state of nervous breakdown. One interesting thing, which I've never seen before in CMBO or CMBB was an allied arty barrage that landed completely off the map several hundred metres away to the right. Is this normal? So I would say don't play Allies and then Germans because it is too predictable. Otherwise as the Allies, very enjoyable. Cheers Ed
  8. I've been playing the demo at work with no sound. Loaded it at home last night and the thing I immediatley noticed was that the sound has vastly improved, although to be honest I hadn't noticed it needed improving. I'm playing Line of Defence and there is a wicked firefight going on. The different sounds of each of the m/c guns are so much clearer and I can hear the end of the clip in the US rifles. Engine noises, voices all sound better. It's fantastic, very immersive. Does this partially explain why I've somehow got to find 2 gig on my already overburdened hard-drive? Cheers Ed
  9. Interesting read. Clearly the perceived threat from Allied air power by the German troops was far greater than the actual, physical threat. The number of abandoned vehicles or the number of vehicles destroyed by their own crew was suprisingly high. I wonder if a survey exists for prior to the breakout, and if so whether the number of abandoned vehicles would be so high. It could be that crews destroyed/abandoned their vehicles more easily after COBRA because there may have been a feeling amongst the German Army that they had lost the battle once the breakout has occurred. Or maybe not. Anyway good read for a Friday afternoon. Beats the crap out of working. Cheers Ed
  10. I've just run around 3 shops and no sign. Absolutey knackered. Amazon was 1 to 2 weeks wait, so my money goes directly to BTS. Cheers Ed
  11. You need a later version of Div X or possibly a later DIV X codec Or try a WinAmp Cheers Ed The version of Div X player is 2.5 and the DivX Codec is 5.1. [ November 05, 2003, 04:56 AM: Message edited by: Eddy ]
  12. Does the barrel length affect the accuracy of the shot? I'd always assumed that it did but this is an ... erm ... assumption.
  13. The tanks in question have very little mg ammo left, but I will take your advice and keep themn back in case any enemy armour turns up later. Thinking about it, it does seem a bit of a waste using AP against dug-in infantry unless you absolutley must. Thanks for your help/advice Cheers Ed
  14. So if there is no unit in the light building, I won't be able to use AP on the building? Didn't know that. Like I say, last time I forget I had tried to target it and didn't watch what happened. Too busy watching an invincible Russki squad firing at my recon platoon. Thanks for the warning. Cheers Ed
  15. I was wondering what would happen to buildings if fired on by AP. I was attacking the Collective farm in this scenario, and I targeted a light building with AP only, but because I'm stupid I forgot all about watching what happened and shifted fire onto a infantry squad running away - machine gun only. All I know is the light building is still there. I have no idea whether I caused it any damage. When I come to attack the buildings by the ford, if I remember I will try to target a building with an tank that has only got AP left, provided of course that no Soviet tanks appear. At present rate of play this should be in the year 2027! Damned reallife. Cheers Ed
  16. Nice one. Thanks for your help. Looks like I will conserve the HE for the last objective. Cheers Ed
  17. OZ77, the trouble is I have no idea how green they are, as I haven't properly spotted them. I've just got the "Infanty?" thing. In fact, the only enemy I have properly identified are the ones I've captured (surrendered to a crew from a knocked out tank!). Cheers Ed
  18. I’m playing Into the Void (German attacker) and I’ve got some tanks that have used all their HE ammo. I am thinking about moving them up to use against some Russian infantry in a foxhole. My question is, given the tanks have only got AP and T ammo, without even any machine gun ammo, am I completely wasting my time thinking of doing this? I am hoping that the Russian infantry will be suppressed, at least keep their heads down while I advance other forces. I assume they would know it’s not HE because of the lack of boom, but would AP be helpful in putting the willies up them, maybe even breaking them? I have loads of tanks with HE ammo left, but I want them to save their ammo for a later phase. Also, one other question; I’ve set the hill on fire. How quickly will this spread and does this mean all the dug-in Russian troops will run away? Cheers Ed
  19. Playing it right now - turn 10. I will post after I have finished it. Cheers Ed
  20. Parachute Hamster or can I call you Mr Hamster? Your English is very good and that response was perfectly clear. Cheers Ed
  21. I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, as I haven’t got time to read all the way through the post (I’m at work), but how about variable weather during a scenario. So say you start off with a clear day but there is a percentage chance of it raining each round, or snowing or whatever, set by the scenario designer. The designer could set it at 0% for a summer’s day, or 30% for autumn or spring and so on. Or perhaps the designer could specify in round 15 it will start to rain. This, I think, will make the game more realistic, which I remember reading is the intention of BTS. Obviously, this would introduce more luck into the game, and could punish players (e.g. ordering tanks across country and then it starts raining, increasing the chance of tanks bogging) unfairly; but it would be more realistic. And thinking about it you could have weather reports or some other indication that, for example, it may start raining in twenty minutes or whatever. A player could or could not take this into account; it would be their call. Certainly in Western Europe (I live in Britain), the weather can change rapidly, easily within the space of twenty minutes. Cheers Ed P.S. Never done a scenario or Quick battle so if this exists already ..... erm I’ll feel very foolish.
  22. Thanks for the welcome. Just for info, presently playing When Worlds Collide. Turn 10 – I think I’m doing alright. Damn good scenario Lou2000 – Thanks for that. I will read these AARs tomorrow in work, if the boss remains on the golf course where he has been encamped for a couple of weeks – happy days Nice font, by the way. Cheers Ed
  23. Hi all, Err .... First ever post, apologies for the length I've had CMBB for a while and played a number of scenarios reasonably successfully against the AI. (usually tactical victories). I like to play Axis attack against the AI, as I find defence is too easy vs. the AI, and I know the German equipment better. My aim is to improve and then move onto PBEM games, at a level where I won't make a holy show of myself. I regularly read the forums looking for tips, I've read some of the great debates, especially the Fionn vs. JasonC celebrity death match (I think it’s called Pillar’s tactics), even understood some of it. I’ve read AAR’s e.g. Sunken Lane, Fionn vs. Some Poor Sap that gets his faced smashed at CMHQ, another one where a member said TNT a lot – Master Goodale, I think (highly amusing) and a number of others. And I know enough not to go anywhere near anything mentioning PENG. I think I becoming a better player but my question is this: - Is there anywhere where I can find up-to-date AAR movies that will help me as an attacker? I am running version 1.03 CMBB and CMBO version 1.12E and every AAR movie I find, when I load the file, the game says my opponent needs to upgrade their version, because the movies are so old. Is there a site with AAR movies compatible with these newer versions? Or have I completely got it wrong about playing movies? Reading AARs is instructive but I think I would benefit if I could actually see the events unfold. Cheers in advance Ed P.S. I’ve searched the forum and I got hundred’s of returns as you can imagine. On a 56k connection I would struggle with time looking through them all.
