  1. Just been talking this through with someone. The only things we could think of is either trigger happy or they thought there was a high value target in it i.e. senior Russian MOD. We erred against trigger happy as the consequences for a Wagnerite of doing something not ordered would probably ne extreme.
  2. Haha I thought some of it was familiar. I watch that YT channel every morning. Guess I need more coffee first thing
  3. Worth a read I think. Seems to be a fair and balanced report.
  4. Hopefully it was still being used as a HQ. It's absolutely miles from the frontline.
  5. They have a self-destruct time of over or under (depending on the mine type) 24 hours if that's what the concern is => Remote Anti-Armor Mine System - Wikipedia
  6. So do I Looks like Russians fighting Russians in Russia is still a thing:
  7. Seeing as though it's such a quiet news day I'll just drop this here. UA getting even more help from the Czechs:
  8. DIY osint with this handy unit patch database => OWL Unit Mapper (owlmaps.github.io)
  9. As was recently pointed out, even I have more credibility than the Russian MOD
  10. I guess it all boils down to what the Russians are trying to achieve. If it's to deplete Ukrainian AD and sap the will of the West to keep resupplying AD missiles then intercepts vs technical failures matters. If the Russians are trying to erode the will/capability of Ukraine to carry on then it doesn't matter whether the failure was technical or intercept. Either way $1.7 billion is a lot of money to spaff on missile in one month unless your country is called either the USA or China. As to why the Russian are doing these attacks. My own personal belief is that it's the only thing left they can think of to do. Oh and spite!
  11. https://www.kyivpost.com/post/17726 Russia spent $1.7 billion in May alone on missiles and drones that failed according to calculations by the Kyiv Post Not including Shaheds: By failed I think they mean failed to hit a target (including shot down) as opposed to technical failure. What they can't calculate is the opportunity cost of what else they could have been fired instead of civilians.
  12. Zaluzhny looks fine to me. Wasn't there some talk about him being in intensive care or something?
  13. Makes sense now thanks. Edit: I wonder how well a Harpoon or something like it would work against a ferry? What with all the clutter from the bridge and whatnot. Just musing ....
  14. Ah ok thanks. So has some credibility about the no casualties then. Well more credibility than the Russian MOD at least!
  15. Report from Channel $ News in the UK They spoke to Ilya Ponomarev (I have no idea who he has - presumably some one big in Freedom of Russia) who stated that there were NO casualties on their side on their jaunt into Belgorod.
  16. Speaking of Prigozhin this is a rather detailed and interesting first draft of history for the Battle of Bakhmut: The Kremlin’s Pyrrhic Victory in Bakhmut: A Retrospective on the Battle for Bakhmut | Institute for the Study of War (understandingwar.org) It's well worth the read although reasonably long. One assessment made by the author is that Wagner will need a couple of months to reconstitute as they are exhausted, which means they will not be available if the Ukrainians offensive starts soon
  17. And that's the difference between a professional and a bloke sat on his sofa - I thought it was for obscuring the bridge somehow
  18. This thread is an explanation from one of the authors who came up with the 10,000 a month in the RUSI Meatgrinder report TLDR: it's a plausible number (in the authors opinion)
  19. Ah ok thanks. So these are the equivalent of F16 C/D after the Mid Life Upgrade. Here's hoping ...
  20. But who's actually going to provide some F16s for Ukraine I wonder? Rather than just training I mean. Or have I missed something?
  21. Nah, we just take a dim view of people using deadly nerve agents in one of our cities. Bang out of line. Edit: by which I mean the average Brit probably didn't have much of an opinion on Putin. After that they did, and it wasn't a good one.
  22. Rusi - Russian Tactics in the Second Year of the Invasion of Ukraine Hot off the press. That's my afternoon sorted.
  23. Interesting, This fixation with Bakhmut is costing the Russian so much!
