  1. so it's out there?? woohoo!! i mean 'in stores'? ger-rrreat! been trying to find a game about krete since i played the CC2 Krete mod which crashed after only 2 battles... there's something about AB ops that intrigue me... the fact that anything can happen, i suppose? thanks again, moon. it's good to know that i can at least buy it from somewhere not too far away. [i looked in every pc game store in brighton on friday and saturday but couldn't find CMAK anywhere and the assistants claimed they'd never heard of it! PAH! philistines!] cheers! das
  2. i got cmbo and cmbb and cmak demo and way too much hdd space devoted to CMBO bmps and mods. i popped down the shops on friday to grab cmak but i couldn't find it anywhere. odd, cos cmbb was got on the day it came out. which was great. i was chewing up T34s outside moscow by evening [ahh... great days!]. but no cmak yet.. where for art thou, cmak?
  3. hi all, this is gonna seem like a really stupid question but i haven't seen CMAK in the gamestores here in UK. i bought CMBO and CM2BB from a high street store... will i have to order it from the USA? cos i really don't wanna do that. something always cocks up whenever i order stuff online and coming from USA would be a MAJOR hassle to return, not to mention expensive... and there's always the possibility that it won't even get there!<that's happened to me also> so, will it get to the shops any time in the next 6 months or so? i'd order from the UK but there's no option on the battlefront site for any other place than the USA. <ps, also, i have had friends who worked in airports handling baggage, parcels, etc and they say the thieving that goes on in british airports is shocking so i'm a bit wary of ordering from too far away> I WANT MY CMAK NOW NOW NOW WAAAAH-HAAA! WAAAH-HAAA!
  4. Wasn't it at the battle of Arras in France when the german AT weapons were incapable of penetrating the Matilda II's armour and a hurried defence was organised using Flak 88s.If memory serves me(which of course it may not)Rommel himself ordered them to be turned on the British tanks.Or maybe it was Guderian.... </font>
  5. App to Sev is a class scenario. the little <?> surprises constantly throw you off-balance a lot forcing you to overthink an advance or approach when, more than likely, the next step would be quite easy. i managed a tactical victory but was amazed i got that! it is quite challenging and i figure, the way a panzer division moved operationally at that time - ie, a narrow column preceded by forward m/cs and arm'd cars, ideally with stukas and ground attack aircrft, to recon the advance, find a route thru enemy lines then perform the breakthru and destruction of command and supply and demoralisation of the enemy army - is recreated well. i haven't replayed this one tho as i kinda know what to expect. [and i was lucky at the beginning as i'd rushed the 251's forward then noticed the enormous pounding the terrain was taking just moments after the last 251 had got clear, taking a 'shaken' status but surviving... that could've taken out a whole platoon with 251s included! phew!] but i don't have a problem with that. WW2 is full of tales of troops of either side forming for an assault and being hit by a random/accurate arty stonk. thanks das
  6. thanks, guys i guess i'm just used to playing CMBO more. i bought CMBB as soon as it came out but have hardly played it really. well, compared to CMBO. the graphics are better, you have more and better tactical options than CMBO with the pull down menu yet i still keep playing CMBO. i think it would probably be my tactics. but in the battle i was talking about the BA10 was firing from about 400 yards, was a regular unit, and, as i rem it, there were some light obstacles in the way, ie, low brush and fences. i used 3 251s to race across an opening in the woods [on a road/track] to draw the BA10's fire whilst i manouvred a PzIIIto it's front, and another to it's right to use partial cover and take the thing out as it had already destroyed several armoured cars and 2 other 251s. also, it was behind a low fence - the BA10,that is - in no cover and once the pnzers were moved forward they had clear LOS. anyway, the first 251 was travelling so fast that when it was KO'd by the BA10 it's momentum carried it for quite a distance safely into cover for the pzgrens to clamber out. it was hit just a second or two from the moment it appeared at full speed zipping out of cover. the BA10 then took out the following 2 251s - who weren't travelling as fast as the first - and even managed to disable the gun on the PzIII in front of it before it was eventually KOd. i was so sure that this was a good tactic. it had caused such destruction in my ranks - this single armoured car - that i figured , i'm not gonna lose a tank to it, and tried to draw its fire so my Pzs could destroy it. but instead, it KOd the distraction AND damaged one of my precious Pzs! that russki gunner should have got the order of lenin for that day's work! the bugger! ever since that game i've always been very wary of russian arm'd cars... thanks das
  7. actually, some tanks are not so effective in hulldown except for the fact that there's only a small percentage of the vehicle exposed to enemy fire, thus, less of a chance to be hit... not necessarily a good thing take the PzIV late models: usually ww2 tanks have thick armour on the turret front, so when in hulldown, not only is there a reduced chance of it being hit it also has a better chance of not being KO'd. even the good old sherman had decent armour on its turret front. but the PzIVs never seemed to improve it's turret front armour much from the sad old days of infantry support in blitzkrieg['40-mid '42]. the hullfront is ok, lower and upper, but the damn turretfront is quite thin for a medium AFV of late WW2 [50mm? i think... at 10 degrees? yow!]. i think the lynx had better turret armour than that! so, if controlling a PzIV against some light AT there doesn't seem to be much point in utilising hulldown as a single hit on that weak turret front will KO the PzIV [and as for the hull rear? don't let any allied .5 inch MGs get around the back of it or it's dead... thin as paper... gimme a sherman any day!]. but it has a decent gun. the guys who wrote this game obviously have done their homework as the detail in these games are incredible but can the turret stats for the late PzIV really be that poor? the PzIV, with the stugIII and marder were prolly the most widely used AFVs from mid 44 onward. [went a bit off topic there...sorry] thanks das
  8. i haven't played cmbb more than cmbo but i have noticed something about cmbb. the russian gunners seem to be exceptionally accurate. now, from what i know of the russians in ww2, their gunners did not have the quality equipment - sights, etc - that the germans had. at least, not up to 1944, i guess. but when i play the germans i find that russian armoured cars and tanks are taking out my PzIIIs with their first shot. even the fast moving sdkfz251s, which i tried racing full speed across an opening in a wood was shot and destroyed with the first shot. i found this incredible! so, the BA armoured car had seen the 251, turned its turret to face it and fired and destroyed its target instantly. those russian gunners must've been incredible! this is at about 500-750 meters. i was experimenting with a scenario and wanted to see just how accurate the russian gunners were as i've noticed that in a firefight sometimes, the germans will be pummelling away with their better sights and more crew members in their tanks and yet the russians were hitting their intended target with no more than 2 shots and usually, they get a kill with the fisrt shot. i am finding this more and more common. now, i have never played a multiplayer game so i don't know if this would apply to that, but the single player game is annoying for this reason. also, when i play the russians in the same scenario, i leave setup as before whilst playing the germans but the russians gunners are suddenly quite useless. i guess this is a 'game balance' thing? thanks das
  9. i've seen this before. my tanks wasting HE on dug in troops or AT guns. in one campaign battle - sorry, can't recall the name - i was playing the germans against US AB who had lots of jeeps... i think outside nijmegen, guarding a crossroads, waiting for relief from the british XXXth corps who arrived in the last quarter of the game. anyway, i remember wasting a lot of my pumas HE ammo trying to hit US dug in snipers near the crossroads. eventually i brought my pzgren forward and flushed them out and occupied their positions. some time later, the british shermans seemed to have no problem blasting my guys out of those same trenches/foxholes from the same positions my pumas and 251 75mm stubs were in. maybe this is a game balance thing? thanks das
  10. being even vaguely interested in WW2 is a bonus with the CM games. and i thought the demos were great. as the german CO in yelnia stare it was a challenge taking out those T-34s with those puny 'doorknockers' - and only 2 of them at that! - and holding off the infantry so that your tank hunting teams can finish off any tanks the doorknockers could not, keeping the tanks buttoned up, so their job is easier, was not easy. there were numerous ways it could be done and that was fun in itself. the kursk demo was also good tho the lack of any other kind of unit made it very difficult. no arty support, no inf support... just armour. like the charge of the light brigade with tanks. but using hulldown and shoot'n'scoot tactics you do more than just 'charge'. i still play CMBO more than CMBB but CMBB has the better tactical options... oh, and better graphics, obviously... and just a whole lot more for your money.i think i just prefer that whole western allies thing. thanks das
  11. yeh, ditto.. nice one, mate. it's all you guys that make all those scenarios that make CM:BO and CM:BB such great games... ooops... did i say 'game'? maybe i should've said 'tactical program'? <ahem> anyways, nice one. thanks das
  12. kursk, you say? oh yes, oh yes, oh yes!! i would like to try this thanks das
  13. i would like to try this campaign. thanks das send PM for details [is that right?]
