  1. Nice pull on that list Tom. WWII and 50's Korea are the top ones on it. I think the future Korea battle might be cool too but I just don't see them taking the time to research modern weapons, computer powered and laser guided equipment and munitions, composite armor tanks, etc.. Not to mention modern OOB, and unit tactics for a first release. Maybe down the line but too much time spent on things other than the engine for now. 50's Korea on the other hand uses vehicles and equipment whose charactoristics have already been calculated.(Sherman,s T-34's, PPSH, Garand, Pershing, Browning mg, BAR, etc.etc.) Of course I have been known to be wrong from time to time. I was divorced twice. [ August 26, 2005, 05:07 PM: Message edited by: Emar ]
  2. I'm all about WWII too!. But I would not mind trying a Korea game either. Could be fun Shermans and Pershings vs. T-34's and it is certainly a theater that has not been overdone in the gaming world Plus I had a few family members in that one. Some real tough fights from what I have heard. [ August 26, 2005, 03:35 PM: Message edited by: Emar ]
  3. Well lets think about this. The CM2 threads have stated that the average unit size for each side will be about a Company with maybe a few support units with larger sizes possible in later releases as hardware improves( this would equate to no bigger than a 'tiny" or the short side of a "small" battle in CM1 terms ). I would think as a general rule that this in itself would preclude any pre WWII release for the game as I would think you would want a larger force size available to accurately portray most battles(ie if you did the Civil War you might be able to do a Jeb Stuart small raid or some such but the average battle would be out, same for Napoleon era, WWI etc. Way too small to do a serious engagement in horse and single shot days) Now a lot of posts include mention of grenades, tanks, vehicles, etc. so most likely latter half of 20th century. Company size actions make sense in the WWII context. Now as to the posibility of post WWII action. I see a big reason why this might not be the subject of the first releases. The crew at BF have been working plenty hard on this new game engine. In the gaming world extra time spent on getting a new product out costs money and allows competition to catch up with you (though I have not seen anyone take a serious shot at BF's throne). Also technology marches on. How many times have we seen other game companies spend years developing a "cutting edge" game only to have the development take so long that when it is released it is not cutting edge any more. My point is this, the tank, vehicle and unit data and OOB for WWII has already been assimulated by BF. They know what armor a Tiger has, what a 76mm gun will penetrate and how fast a Sherman goes. Now I ask you would you as a developer put all of your time into your new game engine which down the road could be used by your self or farmed out to others to do battles in all timelines of history? (and make you money sooner as well) Or would you spend half your time researching laser sighting, helicopters, computer gunnery, guided missiles, thermal imagery, modern OOB, etc. etc. into your first new game. Now I would give Korea a big if (mostly WWII equipment and company action just fine there), but other than that I don't see the first 2 releases being anything but WWII Of course I have been known to be wrong from time to time. 4. 1. Better representation of night combat (star shells, moonlight, etc.) 2. Better convoy management on or off road and the ability of vehicle and boat passengers to fire their weapons even if it is at decreased effectiveness. 3. Artillery modeling 4. Diagonal city streets 5. Think of something later
  5. First let me say that I am very excited about this new product. It really sounds like it is going to be great. But here is where I am a little confused and maybe someone can shed some light. 1:1 representation: Will orders still be given to the squad and halfsquad or will I be able to micromanage (ie when I approach a building will I be able to have 2 guys laying down supresive fire, 2 going in the front door while 3 go in the back and upstairs, or have a couple guys return fire on an ambush while the rest of the squad sneaks behind them on the flanks, etc?). For that matter will all the 1:1 guys in a squad be able to accept seperate orders or split up at all or is it AI run or abstracted? If orders go to the squad as a whole then I assume the AI will find the best cover for each guy. It is shame about not having enough space for the names. At this small scale 1:1 level of combat it could provide that extra touch of realism that helps you to care about what happens to your soldiers. Maybe next time. Looking very forward to playing with the new map editor (my favorite part of scenario design ) Battlefront. Congratulations and best wishes for your new products! P.S. Reading the previous posts and B.F. responses to them is leading me to believe that at least 1 if not both of these new products is WWII based (perhaps wishful thinking) That would be just fine by me
  6. Big Dog, your 2 ops are inbound Dave your e-mail was blocked, drop me a line and I will send the ops your way  Eric
  7. Frozen, tried to send them through your address here but your e-mail is blocked( i can send a message but I cannot attach the ops). Send me a line and I will bounce em back to you.
  8. Both ops are inbound Cpl. Play them as 2 player or as german vs. AI Good Hunting Eric
  9. Blut Und Ehre weighs in at 216Kb, Race for Caen at 226KB. If you would like either let me know Eric
  10. Thanks Dan, quick response. Got it now. looks like fun.
  11. Okay I guess I am not that bright. How do I install the .NET framework and where is it found?
  12. Downloaded it twice from 2 different servers. Everytime I try to fire it up I get this message "the application failed to initialize properly (0x0000135). click on ok to terminate" Anyone know how to make it so I don't have to terminate something? (although I guess terminating can be fun sometimes)
  13. Billy, just sent 2 Gebirgsjaeger ops your way. One depicts the Gebirgsjaeger assault on the Greek fortress on mt. Istibei. The other depicts the Gebirgsjaeger assault on the Kiwi held town of Galatas on Crete. Both ops have been well researched and can be played 2 player or as the attacking Germans vs. the AI. Eric
  14. I have 2 huge 4k x 8k ops for CMAK. One depicting the landing at Juno beach and the other covering the counterattack of the 12th SS on the 7th. Let me know if you are interested. Franko has some good large ops for CMBB and CMAK as well.
  15. I think it would be great to have a one stop shop for scenarios and Gary does a great job with the site he has now. I do have one question though. Are we planning to start this site with just current author sent submissions or are you planning to throw all of the old scenarios back up that were saved from the depot? I for one would rather just see a fresh start with just the best battles and ops being submitted. There was a lot of early effort scenarios at the depot for all 3 games(including some from me) that were not so great and I hate to have to wade through all of them to find the gems (and I am sure as an author that I am not alone in not wanting some of my older stuff posted). Best of luck with the new site and I would support a paypal tab as well (doing the work for the Cm community is enough, you should not have to foot the whole bill for us as well)
  16. Must be taking a little longer than was thought earlier. Saw a post from GJK on one of the other forums from around noontime where he said it should be up soon. Must admit I was a little worried the other day when the sight would not come up. I brought up a couple of CM websites link lists today out of boredom and started clicking on the CM websites listed there. I would say a good 2/3rds of them were defunct. I hope we don't lose any more I know this game is not the latest and greatest of computer games anymore but I still think it is head and shoulders above anything else in this genre.
  17. I agree with Michael about not wanting some of my early efforts put back up. A fresh start sounds good to me as well. I am however very worried about what type of sight will be available to host and download scenarios from now that the Scenario Depot is gone(a sight I visited on a daily basis). As a designer I am currently kind of worried that my creating efforts and those of many others will never see the light of day other than on the creators computer . There are of course some other sights out there and some of their stuff is good but they include only scenarios from in house design team groups. The TSD was the only place that the average Joe like me could host and have ops and battles reviewed and played. Speaking of reviews, a lot of players put a lot of effort and thought into reviewing scenarios at TSD for the benefit of other players. I guess all of these reviews have vanished as well (not the Admirals fault of course as he went well above the call of duty for the CM community) I would hope that someone else will step forward and take up the hosting torch. CM is a lot less appealing to me without the ability to find and play the battles and ops that appeal to my own tastes. Not sure that asking the guys at CMMODS or TPG to take on an extra burden is the way to go either. From what i have seen these guys are already giving up a good bit of their lives for the CM community. Don't think it is at all fair to ask more unless we are all going to pay them a salary Any way I hope it gets sorted out somehow as there is no shortage of folks making ops and battles to be played by the CM community.
  18. I am no expert but from simular experiances I hate to tell you that anything with the word "transmission" in it usually costs in the thousands. Sounds like a bad day in Texas.
  19. Whew, never mind, just got in
  20. After last weeks loss of the Depot...
  21. While on the subject of captured weapons used by the Germans... I have been doing some research for some early war scenarios. While researching the Polish campaign I was reading that the primary pre-war Polish SAW was a licensed copy of the BAR while their primary medium mg was a license copy of the 1917 Browning water cooled mg, both of which were in 7.92mm (the Poles used the Kar 98 as well). The Germans must have captured a decent amount of these weapons but I have never seen a photo of either of these weapons in use by them (seen photos of Czheck, Austrian, French, Russian, etc. weapons employed). Considering that many of these other weapons are in different calibers or needed stripper clips or odd parts and accesories, can't imagine why I have not seen these Polish guns in German service (especially as Browning weapons are highly reliable)? Can anyone shed some light on this one
  22. Looking forward to seeing these mods combined with the maps form my Normandy pack ops.
