  1. Serves me right. That's what you get when you post in the middle of the night. I just checked out gamerankings.com and that showed that all of the old CM games got great scores. I stand corrected, I'll happily await the 9's and 10's . NoxSpartana, I bow my head in shame . //Salkin
  2. Hmm...many of the popular review sites probably wouldn't take the time to really get ingrossed into a Combat mission game if you ask me. Accessability is really important for mainstream reviewers today it seems. When review material is piling up in front of the mainstream reviewers today it's understandable how they can get intimidated when CMSF lands on their doorstep. Many of the big mags are very console oriented today it seems... There are exceptions though. I think CM got some pretty good scores from PC Gamer (UK?) or was it PC Zone? I wouldn't expect stellar reviews from Gamespot, Gamespy, IGN or 1up....I hope I'm wrong though. Maybe we can get lucky at one place or other and score 7/10 , but the best scores will probably come from the enthusiasts like SimHQ or Out of Eight. //Salkin
  3. When someone sends you a disk that has "review copy" stamped on it, you kind of expect it to be reviewable; i.e, finished product. I don't knowingly review unfinished product. Someone from the publisher or developer tells me it's good to go, so it goes. If it isn't and things like AI or pathfinding are iffy, we can't exactly pretend it's not no matter how much we love Combat Mission. The actual final review, though, will be 1.01, which I am in the process of acquiring. Just cleared that up with my editor. And no, there is no 1.02 yet and I never said there was. My only reference to it is in reply to James Allen's reference to it. And that's in the comments, not the main body of my text. Raconteur. Gadabout. Chef to the stars. (Actually, the blog has a link on the sidebar if you're really curious. But I'm not that interesting.) </font>
  4. If I have a few hours to spare (say four), will it be possible to make a small but complete scenario with a simple but fairly interesting AI plan ? //Salkin
  5. Are IEDs situated in the same place every time you play a campaign mission or do they differ with which plan the AI is using ? //Salkin
  6. Another thing I look forward to is one of those special moments that can only occur in a CM game. You know the moments where you discovered who was truly the uberfinn trooper in your ranks , or the moments where chance or dumb luck ruins or makes a game. Those moments can be pretty special . //Salkin
  7. The waiting is the hardest part . //Salkin
  8. LOL ! First of all making a simulation for hardcore grogs *shudder*....secondly getting slapped across the face with reviews from an unfinished product ...*ouch*... Winecape,if your still around, these guys need a refill . With all that said I fear for how the game will run this saturday on my Core2Duo, Vista 64bit, 8800 GTX config . //Salkin
  9. Hmm...no LOS tool ? I never was all that bothered by borg spotting and I'm not even sure that's the reason they removed the LOS tool.... Anyways the LOS tool was crucial in CM, why has it been removed ? //Salkin
  10. Wow...now if he wouldn't speak so fast I could actually understand a thing or two about what he said. It seemed like a great vid though, newcommers could probably even learn some of the basics just from watching this vid...if they were any good at german that is. I understood the last part though where he said it wasn't for everyone and that he recommended that you try the demo to see if it was for you. That sure sounds like our CM . //Salkin
  11. I don't know how to make Haikus So I will not make one In this thread //Salkin
  12. I'm just looking forward to an updated CM engine with all the goodness that it brings. he 1:1 representation of infantry and tracking of every bullet will be nice too see. Also the allready impressive damage system on vehicles will be improved on and I'm very excited about that. I also look forward to all the new stuff I'm going to learn about modern combat. I learned tons about WW2 combat through playing the early CM games. Other things that excite me about CMSF : Things that will go BOM ! //Salkin
  13. I think we also have to remember that CMSF is a very different beast from what old CM was, so we may be pleasantly surprised by CMSF. Maybe playing QB scenarios will be great in CMSF. I stand by my preorder. //Salkin This has been a fanboy statement
  14. Cameroon...you could be right....but I hope not since that is exactly my setup . //Salkin
  15. Sure...but there are still some issues that needs fixing. I think you will be missing out on a graphical beauty layer or two, but from what I understand it should definitely be playable. I think even one of the devs are running it on a vista system. //Salkin
  16. I personally hated scenarios in CMx1. Being "hand made" can also be a drawback. </font>
  17. What do you call this? Soldiers wait no matter where they go. In Canada our methods are also less "intense", and I think it varies even in the States from branch to branch. Still, the formative weeks are the most important. I realize I sound like I'm taking this too seriously, but I don't apologize. Too many people waste time and money entering service as a lark, and it creates a huge burden on everyone up and down the chain. Besides, its just plain funny to get them worked up. I miss Rommel22; the dog thread was a classic. I hope his absence from the forum means he's doing well in the service, or found a better option. He was fun to wind up, but he wasn't all that bad either. </font>
  18. I did military service in my country. It was the conscription type (I think that's what you call it) and only for ten months but I played computer games until the day when I went in and it turned out ok. I didn't play during the evenings of my service and I wasn't suggesting sage2 would either. I just thought it would be good for him to do something fun before entering the service. This would also give him something fun to think about during one of the many dreary waits that military service consists of. Off course in sweden we have a different way of drilling soldiers then you in the US do. //Salkin
  19. Can't a man have careers and hobbies. I know when I'm not at work I sure as heck don't focus on my career all day . When your in some lines of work a little escapism can be a really good thing you know. //Salkin
  20. What was this thread about again ? And viva la revolution!!! Oh, and "cool german" is that an oxymoron, or is it just me being a moron ? //Salkin
  21. I just love Parabellums posts. He's probably the coolest german on the planet. //Salkin
  22. This wont even be an issue once my timetravel machine is done. //Salkin
