I don't think he's ever won a game, but it's understandable. He's Swedish.
Well....we'll try

1. The AI wasn't bad in any way. It's a very time consuming advanced process coding an AI for a game like CM.Originally posted by melb_will:Lets' face it people are only whinging about PBEM for two reasons.
1. The AI in CMx1 sucked. I'm sorry BF but it's true. The AI was alright for a few quick battles if you put it as defender and gave it a big experience boost. But otherwise the AI wasn't at the same level as the rest of the game. Sure this is true of most games but i'm just telling the reasons.
2. PBEM was the only personal contact that most of the members of this board had in their otherwise drab meaningless little lives
PBEM is social that's what makes it so good, those sarcastic comments attached with turns, the misdirection capable, ie oh no you shot my King Tiger (hehe only a Mark IV)
Cheers

This is me in a nut shell.Originally posted by Demster:Sergei,
I'm not sure you give the casual player enough credit. I would have to place myself as a casual player. I have played maybe two, half games of PBEM and two games of TCP/IP but I have played hundreds of games against the AI and I really enjoy a quick battle. I visit off and on this forum to see what is happening and I might go a few months between games and then play several dozen over a few weeks.
But what has made this game worth playing is the quality put into it. I am by no means a grog and this is the only hard core military game I play but I do appreciate the quality of this game and the opportunity to be the commander of my forces in my eternal quest to win and succeed.
-Demster
And like Steve said mostly hard-core gamers and grogs frequent forums like this , most normal people (unlike myself) do other stuff besides posting in forums.
I have drawn the conclusion that I'm a hard-core gamer/computer addict , not that it's a good thing mind you

Steve should make a Master GoodAle like thread for all the PBEM freaks out there to keep them from starting new threads all the time

Kip, an uber campaign wouldn't be very practical from the multiplayer aspect. I would use it for single player as would most people. I could be wrong though , there may be a few brave souls out there with enough time to kill to try it in multiplayerOriginally posted by Kip Watson:I have to be honest, this 'uber campaign' thing sounds wonderful in theory but in practice I am highly sceptical.
If you're playing well at the strategic level then your opponent has to endure a CM battle (or even a whole string of them) of getting massacred - or vice versa. Would that be fun for either player?
The 2 don't compliment each other as much as you might think.

What's the differensOriginally posted by Andreas:No thank you. I want an operational layer, where I move battalions about. So at most Corps sized. None of that strategic namby-pamby.
.
Anyway , what I'm looking for is putting my battles in a context (and no I don't mean a story driven campaign...).
If it's battallion sized, then so be it

I went into mourning for a short while actually.
Here's hoping we get a strategic layer in one of the upcomming sequels to CMX2.
