  1. Augest 30, 1940

Allies have left 2 corps to die (one already has) in Sicily. They failed to take the city and port in two attacks and have withdrawn. The city and port in southern Itlay was given up without a fight. UK still hold Brest and is waiting for the Axis next move while building her defence against Sealion. No other minors have been DOWed but 6 german air have been pounding on the FF army in London.

  2. July 21, 1940

UK pulls out of France, only 2 French corps are left with 6 German armys near or on the edge of Paris.

UK spy's have discovered that Italy will support Germany in this War and a premptive strike is ordered. The Southern city and port are invaded and the fleet destroyed by a combination of French and UK ships.

This has been an expensive game for UK, while delaying Germany it has cost her 2 Carriers, 1 BBs, 1 Army, ? on corps (6?) and all the Canadain units. Almost all due to two poor attacks in the LC reagion. Germany has lost 2 Armor, 3 corps, 1 Army, and several other units very damaged.

  3. June 23, 1940

Allies insanly attack an exposed corps (st1) with both carriers and move one BBs into the coast of LC, the corps surives and the BB does little damage to a str4 army. Germanys couter is costly as all three ships go down. A sad day for UK.

I ended up need to use a damaged french army (forest hex) to get the kill, it was an easy kill for the army but I wanted to try and reiforce is and save the day. This mistake (insanity) is a back breaker and I don't think the allies will recover, I'll cointiue the game but it is unlikely that the allies can win now. One corps 125MPPs - 700 for each carrier 650 for the BBs, thats one hell of an exchange!

  4. April 14, 1940

Allies are only one hex from holding the River defence, but its costing them alot in units while the German army gain exp every turn. Two Axis armor have been destroyed and one corps vs 3 French armys and 4 corps (UK), all all minor units.

Both subs have been sunk and the UK navy is free to persue another goal. Germany picked up 2 more air so they now have 5 fighting on the western front vs 0 for UK and France.

  5. Turn one: Axis Std move's with no sub raiding and one air used in poland

Allied: Poland set best defensive line that is can. Allied air moves forward to defend LC if attacked. Lots of allied naval movement.

Turn2: Std axis moves with Warsaw falling but not Poland. LC is attacked but holds out as French and UK air defends the capital.

Allied: UK BEF army lands and helps the French kill off the German corps just south of the capital. LC corps attack Geraman air. Denmark still holding but at str5. One German sub found be is excapes NW, entire UK fleet (?) chasing.

Turn3: Axis gets no kills as its fighting a 3 front war (LC, Poland, Denmark)

Allied: French Corps (srt1) insainly attacks german armor and destroys its self. Canadian army, UK army and French army reduce the advaced Germany Army to str 3. LC have become WW1 expect Germany now has 3 air units ready to attack, while the allied ones have withdrawn (?).

  6. In any custom sanerio play I was woundering if it would be better to Reduce US IT tech to 0 but provide them with an extra 3 chits that must be placed in IT and could not be removed till it reached L5. If they chose to also place thier starting 2 in IT they would have the max of five. This would, with in the limits of SC, simiulate the buildup of US industry to it total war mentality.

Combine this with a HR of a max of 2 chits in any one tech for all other nations and the Allied player could see some real advantages in doing this. (the lone expection would be the USA IT - max 5)

  7. I've done this many times, and is a backbone to some of my Allied play style. It will work, but depends greatly (like all things in SC) on what the other sides is doing. If your playing an aggressive air power player, (AIR KING Zapp?) you will find yourself in a feast or famine situation. If they are lucky and still get plenty of tech advances, your toast, if they don't you have the advantage. Against any other style of play it will reap huge returns, for a varity of reasons, it can/will be a winning idea.

Like many before me, I'm getting tired of the air power race (I've pritty much quit playing 39 past the fall of France). However I don't like the idea of limited force pools, it cuts down on the 'what if' options too much. I greatly prefer limiting the # of chits in any one tech to a max of 2, this will put you at and average of 2 per year, much more 'historical' and 'slow' paced.

  8. If Rannug wins against Friendly Fire, we'll have three players with 3 points! Any suggestions?

Who ever played the 'longest' in SC game time would be the closet to a draw and break the tie. You would need to check with each player and see thier results. If they don't remember they can look at any AARs posted.
  9. Yup, read/seen ect... and agree with everything above (ok not the stuff on modern Russia, thats new). Was Russian ready in Late 41 or Eary 42? Since none of us were there, I don't think any of us really knows. And personally I'm not pushing the 41 thought, but in the game from a balance issue it would be better to go that route and skip the bidding.

From a historical side, I think the key is 'attack Hitler in the bum, during sealion'. Stalin had to know that if Germany could take down UK in a quick invasion (4-12 weeks) that Russia was doomed. Yes the Winter war was a disastor (unprepared/poor leadership) but attacking in 41 with UK still active (but unprepared) would be better then facing Nazi Eroupe all by your self in 42 or 43. Thats something even the Cazr's didn't have to face during during Napolians invasion.

Easy Facts/thoughts from a 'poor' historian, like me:

Three 'powers' controled the west at this time, each hoped the other two would destroy each other in battle and then 'thier' side would be the last standing (or the strongest).

    Stalin Knew

Germany could take down anyone, major power or minors quickly - Poland 2 weeks, Denmark 1 week, France 6 weeks.

Germany had many supporting Countrys, Spain weak after the cival war but Facist, Sweden support Finland during winter war selling ore, all the balkins (reluctant?) allies.

Germany at some point was going to attack, Hitlers book said so.

A Russia facing Germany one on one was going to lose, no matter what.

    Stalin didn't know

Was Hitler going to invade UK, if so he had to act fast. Is this why the units are so far forward in June 41? To conduct a 'spoiling' attack even if unprepared with the balk of German armor was in UK?

Ahhh, an interesting and fun discussion. I suggerset reading the book "Hitler Traitor', alot of good info on the eastern front that you can't get in most 'western' books on WW2.

  10. Nice game guys. CC looks like your the King right now, I know you've kicked my arse afew times as Germany.

The next line is more on the game then your style, don't take it personally.

    August 41

    USA 78%, USSR 74

Now is this a joke or what? That Germany should see its greatest foe at such low readiness when she is wiping the floor of all those minors :( . And the USA ready to jump into another war on the other side of the pond when Congress could care less? Yes I know its for 'play' balance but if that was true why do we need a bid?

And for those who say Russia wouldn't be ready for war I suggest a 'new' book out called 'Hitlers Traitor'. I read it last month and it had alot (for me) of interesting info. I'm sure we've all heard of the 'Lucy' spy ring and how it saved Stalin's butt. The book works from released data (50 years old and KGB info) that nobody had access to until the late 1990s. The #1 spy was called 'Walter' and in the books conclusion this is Borman, Hess's assistant untill he flew to UK (planed not the 'crazy' flight we think it was). Borman became the #2 man in the Party (after Hitler) and was the Big Guys personal secritary, i.e. he controled who and when people could see Hitler. In many ways this made him the #2 man in Germany from 41-45, and he was working for Russia (if you believe this book).

Back to the Red Army, in the spring of 41 the entire Red Army was outside the 39 Borders, with huge supply dumps right behind it. Attacks are conducted in such forward positions, Defense is conducted in depth, USSR was preping for attack. Hitler just beat Stalin to the punch, the attack came just as the Red Army was reorginizing its armored units, if these repositioning's had been compleated Russia would have attacked (depends on what books you read, 'newer' books tend to support this more) in the late Summer/early Fall of 41, maybe not until 42. It all depended on if Stalin could stick it in Hitler bum while the Germany army was ocupied with Sealion or not.

In SC terms USSR readiness should be incressed 15-20% and USA's should be reduced 5-10% (can't go neg so this is moot). Then I think you would see a more 'historical' time line.

Ahhh another rant by the sleep deprived Iron man. Was thinks also what it would be like if Russia started actived like in 3R but very weak (no units in 39) with several resources green and one oil well gray, Interesting?
