  1. My cmbb cd is dying. I can still use it to run the game, but I can no longer install the game from it (stops at 95% or so with disk errors). First of all if I install cmc, will it ask me for my cmbb disk? ( I have seen games ask you for the original disk when you install an add on). Secondly, assuming there are cd checks, once I have cmc installed, will I be able to run cmbb using the cmc disk, or will I still have to rely on my old cmbb cd.
  2. My most memorable expierences with CMBB came from playing Biltongs campaign. Played in a number of quick battles using parameters and units I would never have bothered to use otherwise. IIRC the worst was being ordered to conduct a night counterattack with something like 20-30% ammo, with my company being worn out and half strength. I think I got only ten turns or so into the battle before I got an auto cease fire since my troops refused to fight anymore.
  3. Are German armored cars truly AA capable? Maybe the open-topped ones? I have a hard time picturing a closed turret vehicle aiming at aircrafts... The flexible MG's the halftracks carry aren't the most potent AA weapons available, except the late war 251/21; the MG151 that it carries makes it possibly even more deadly against infantry and air targets than the Allied M-17. </font>
  4. Some quick searching on the internet turned up this site battlestations.
  5. A month or so ago when people were talking about the R/C Tiger tanks on the General Forum, I became mildly interested. I found this site R/C Tank Combat which is devoted to scratch building tanks (at 1/6 size I believe) installing a paintball gun, then engaging in combat with other tank builders. A lot of work, and expensive, but it looks like fun.
  6. I think he is refering to a SdKfz 251/9. The ones that mount the 75mm gun. Could be wrong though. To add to the discussion regarding halftracks, I tend to keep them back covering infantry. Maybe its just me, but I have bad luck when it comes to those damn prtd at rifles.
  7. Forgive me if any of these have been fixed in CMAK. Saw this post and thought I would add my two cents. Something needs to be done about roads & rivers, & railroad tracks. I hate their current appearance. You can't have a long curved road, you have to make one straight, one angled, one straight etc. The biggest improvement should be for AI. Also, plotting waypoints for roads needs to be improved. It would be nice to be able to remove barbed wire, was it really that hard? Stuff is indestructable right now. Someone mentioned the sortable scenario selector, which sounds like a good idea. One other thing...I always see signposts (Berlin 500km, etc) in movies and photos of WWII, but have never seen them in CMBB. Don't know about CMAK. My own personal wish is for a campaign system, or barring that, at least the ability to edit and retrieve information from saved game files. Maybe have a secure save game file for pbem games, and an open one for folks like me.
  8. Thanks for all the work Biltong. Playing your campaign rules has made CM:BB alot more enjoyable. Sorry to see that you won't be around as much.
  9. I don't have my sheets with me, so this is off the top of my head, but it comes to something like this. 673 Core 250 Attachments 200 Infantry 80 Vehicle 125 Armor 80 Arty (I got low rolls, and only added the +3 for axis assualt ) The battlegroup comes to around 1400 The attachments are something like ~1300 (2 engineer companies) ~500 (2 stug B platoons) ~500 (odd assortment of arty) ~50 (2 150mm guns) total em up you get 3750 for ppt. Modified for casualties (20%) and battle type I get 3750 * (1-.2)/1.72 = 1744 which rounds up to 2000 for the force size. 1000 less then what the rules state my force size should be. True when you go into the game it gives me something like 6000, but thats based off the 3000 I put in, not my actual 2000. Hence my dilemma. Was this the discrepency intended, or my bad luck, or bad math?
  10. Question regarding the Bridges of Blood scenario. From the rules it states that the force size is 3000. Now including the attachments my provisional force comes to around 1761 (20% casualties). My understanding is that I am pretty much screwed and will only be allowed to buy up to the numbers I rolled up correct? All the leftover is wasted right? I have heard lots about this battle and I would rather not go into it shorthanded if I can help it. In the rules it also states the Russians are at 60% casualties? I thought 50% was the max? Little confused on that one too.
  11. Question regarding the Kiev Battle Maps. When I load the maps (after placing my units in them in the scenario editor), the AI has been placing the bunkers and minefields to locations of its own choosing. The AI choices for placing them are questionable at best. Is this normal, or should I be padlocking them before I load the map to ensure they stay in the same spot (which would ruin the element of suprise though). Secondly, are the pioneer and STUG guns that are tacked on considered to be part of the battlegroup? Are they subject to the same casualty & ammo modifiers as my own battlegroup? 12. Quick Question on city battles. I rolled up a city battle, which was to last 3 days. First day I found myself underattack by a soviet armor force, which I didn't think I could repel, so I pulled the rest of my men out. I avoided a soviet counterattack, and from my understanding, the next battle which occurs is to take place on the second day. Is this correct?
  13. Sigh, and I here I thought I was something special when one of my infantry squads inflicted 164 casualties. But 173 from a lone mortar? My tally doesn't even compare. [ May 06, 2003, 07:14 AM: Message edited by: DBaron ]

I had this book in front of me (reading about his desert war expeirences), and saw this mention of Mellenthin so I thought I would post that excerpt. If he mentions it anywhere else I do not know of it. [ May 06, 2003, 06:24 AM: Message edited by: DBaron ]
  15. Sorry thought you were talking about the main battle. Yes you use the 1250 in the pre QB (task force offering) as well (at least I do). For the pre QB, I don't even count the number of units or anything like that (too tedious). I don't have the patience to count them. I just go through, and see what types of units the game offers up. Then I buy those same units for the main battle. [ May 06, 2003, 03:37 AM: Message edited by: DBaron ]
  16. This is gonna be like the blind leading the blind since I am new to BCR myself, but I will try to help you out if I can. Below is what I do when I start a battle, though I cannot attest that it is the *correct* way. You use 1250 for the force size. Now go into the game, plug in the paramenters you rolled up. 1250 will be the number you put in for the CMBB quick battle force size. You will be able to buy more than 1250 though. It will depend on different factors, but say you are assaulting, with 0 casualties, I think the computer will calculate your force size to 2150 (1250 * 1.72). Next you go and buy up to, but not over whatever values you rolled for infantry, support, etc, and also buy your mech inf company and armor. Remember to buy only what was generated in the task force offerings. Now, I just quit buying at this point, and move on to the battle, but most of the time I have points left over to spend (after having filled all my task force slots), say I have only used 2050 of the 2150. I *think* you can use those extra points to buy whatever you want, but I'm not exactly sure on how that part works. I convientely ignore it and just start the battle. But feel free to do whatever you want. I hope this helps.

  18. I have a question concerning attached units. First of all, do you have to spend the attachment points right away, or you can bank them for later? Secondly it says you can buy infantry with them, so say I bought an aufkalurung platoon, would that be considered just one attachment or would it be considered three (leader + two squads, disregarding the third squad).
  19. Hello again. Since I had troubles getting BiltAid to run, I have gone the pencil and paper method. I am a little confused on task force buying and I want to double check on the provisional force size formula. is it Provisional Force size x (1 - casualty/Battle Type) or is it Provisional Force size x (1 - casualty)/Battle Type Thanks in advance. Edit: If there were to be a BCR for CMAK, I would like to play the axis side. [ April 30, 2003, 07:32 AM: Message edited by: DBaron ]
  20. DOn't get me wrong, I appreciate everyone help, especially Biltong for keeping the campaign system alive, and Seahawk (and Peterk?) for making the java program. I will rename that file and see if that does the trick. Regarding the kak.worm, the file itself is clean, but in the instructions for editing the autoexec.bat in the release notes (top of page 3) there are two lines which contain kak.hta. Below is the text from the release notes. This is what was setting off my Mcafee, and I don't see what good having those two last lines would do, as I don't see that they would help windows recognize a path to java. Just trying to help. @echo off path c:\windows;c:\windows\command;c:\command;C:\JBuilder8\jdk1.4\bin set dircmd=/o:gne rem - by windows setup - lh c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe /d:mscd000 @echo off>C:\Windows\STARTM~1\Programs\StartUp\kak.hta del C:\Windows\STARTM~1\Programs\StartUp\kak.hta
