  1. I don't remember, but I do remember that there is a movement command that gives ur AFV/TD a mindset that he remembers when he reaches his destination. I used the command for putting my vehicles on slopes; if a after a few turns some big tanks showed up, it would back down the slope to conceil itself. I could do a trial and error of course, the irony is that i remember finding this tactic somewhere on the forum but i can't find the post
  2. I am going to start a QB via PBEM for the first time. Is there anything I want to consider regarding balance (should the attacking player have more points, etc.)? thnx very much for your help
  3. no it isn't. The shoot and scoot order is kinda dangerous, caus it's not easy to determine the top of the slope you want to fire from. There is a command that allows you to let the vehicle the minute it's weapon can be fired on enemy, and it also retires when it believes it can't win a gun battle
  4. I am just starting playing again after 6 months or so. i remember there was this command for vehicles that resulted in a vehicle going somewhere and staying ther, but made it to back down (the slope) should superior firepower arrive in front of it. Which one was it again?
  5. every once in a while people ask for useful CM links. Can't there be a sticky with a list of useful/cool Cm sites? Would be handy for all the noobs me guesses. cheers from holland
  6. In my current PBEM, Iam using my US infantry in the same manner that I tend to use German grenadiers; I try to flank enemy vehicles and kill them with handheld AT weapon. The only thing is, I can hardly believe that the rifle grenades are capable of the things that I use them for in CM! Did these things really penetrate PzKfW III side turret armor from 35 meters? In Cm they almost seem as potent as panzerfausts! Is this a compromise from the devs to sacrifice realism to give US troops better AT capability?
  7. Oh yeah, I mixed them up. (5. SS Wiking was the first West-European Battlefield formation ever fielded) I found the skulls on panzer wrap collar tabs on the internet; they are a little different from the SS skulls, as indeed they are on the CM uniforms. The headgear skull is for all SS units right? Thanx for the info! i was wrong again.......
  8. is this true? that's too bad why isn't this modeled in CM? I am a new player, so have not tried it yet,but inf should be able to follow tanks. Maybe the dev's could use a special command for it, "follow" command or something. Maybe you could model with such a command that the tank driver knows, that there is inf. behind him.
  9. Something else; most of the uniforms sport a Luftwaffe style eagle instead of the normal wehrmacht breast eagle. Love the correct color insignia by the way; here is a link for all colors in the german wehrmacht; http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/germanuniforms/wehrmacht39_42.html
  10. Hey Andrew, I use most of your uniform mods and I must say i like them. Just one thing though, allmost on every german uniform you did there are death's heads on the collars, which is the insignia of the 2. SS Pz "Totenkopf" division (FYI, the SS death's head originated from the Kaiser's own family/cavalry regiment), and very few of them have the wehrmacht bars on the collar. Why is this, did most panzer uniforms have death's heads on their collars? One of the previews in your original post has the wehrmacht bars, for the authenticity freaks among us that is what we want, right? Or am I mistaken here? greetz from holland
  11. Should have started this thread sooner! In my current PBEM I already lost most of my AT halftracks to some pesky PzKfW III's, even while I helt all the objectives, so there was no reason to show my dumb little face over the crest! Well that's ANOTHER lesson. Luckily real commanders train before they go into action........(I hope)
  12. I am currently in a NA PBEM with desert rats vs. DAK. I was already in turn 3 when I installed this mod: ftp://ftp.combatmission.com/Gordon/Junk/GEM_Crusader_II.zip I was just starting to use mods and this one looked nice. So I installed it and started playing again, but I noticed something funny; My front-platoon of crusaders, which I had sent forward to flank German tanks, did not have the same (modded) skin as my other crusaders, instead they were still in the 'normal' colours! Looking into this I saw a little CS, next to the CrusaderII designation!!! And after looking into the penetration numbers closer I discovered that CS tanks are as useful against german armor, as prayer against WindowsXP crashing! Luckily this was still turn 3, and I could manouver my close support tanks back to support Inf. where they belong, pfffffffffff. GEM, whoever you are, thanx alot! The mod actually looks cool too, and, as I just showed, helps you to identify your crusaders more easily (yeah yeah, I know, review your forces' capabilities carefully during setup, well that's another lesson leaned for this noob) (will post screenshot after game is over, don't want to give it away to my opponent, don't know if he participates in the forum.)
  13. doesn't everybody play extreme FOW? Isn't extreme the most realistic?
  14. How much time does it take? It can be done by the tanker himself right? I don't imagine that there where battalions of whitewashers running around behind the front. I imagine that it was done with regular servicing of the vehicle?
  15. Hey guys, is there any way that you can make sure that when u shoot&scoot out off full cover, that you shoot from hull down position? Or do you just have to read the terrain. If reading terrain is the way to go, how then do you correctly estimate where on a slope is hull down position? (maybe a screenshot for this anyone?) greetz from Holland
  16. whitewash, defintely. maybe the roadwheels could use a little something too? I seem to remember this photograph of a Whitewashed Panther G, it had the roadwheels white too, maybe they also did it for JagdpanzerIV
  17. Hey oddball, I've downloaded and installed your soundmof and it's seems great so far. Just one thing; the M3 halftrack sound is highly irritating and so far the only sound where the original sound definitely is better. nice work though, greets from holland
  18. This is starting to become my objection against CMAK; you can spend 30 minutes micromanaging your forces during 1 turn, due to reading the terrain. Because I lack the time to play TCP/IP I always play PBEM, and time is on your side then. Spending 30 minutes on 1 turn (not every turn ofcourse) kinda takes the realism of combat out of the game, because there are no "snap decisions" anymore. Terrific game anyways, but I'm definitely going to play TCP/IP soon; chaos of battle and overreacting to setbacks must make the game interesting. PBEM is still very interesting but more chess-like.
  19. I was in Bovington last summer. The tiger and especially the King tiger take your breath away (blahblahblah). The tiger sure is beautiful, especially when compared to allied junk.
  20. The germans sure love their old flak!!! hehehe http://www.bmlv.gv.at/waffen/waf_fiak.shtml

  22. Hey guys, I am COMPLETELY new to CM mods. Could you share with us what mods you think EVERYONE MUST have? i.e. which mods improve the gaming experience? cheers from holland
  23. ****I might be mistaken about the MG with the dot on the bottom, but seeing as it does not have a number on it it is a single weapon**** I also still don't know yet what kind a auto-weapon this is, in the document that u refer to the dot only shows up when dealing with indirect-fire weapons, the howitzers. I also think it is a single weapon, defintely no LMG though (see bottom of my post). Anyone know the symbol of the nebelwerfer? BTW; i am new to posting here, I usually just read; how do you do this Quoting? makes the posts much better readable *** I wonder, then, if they Y with 2 indicates a 2cm FlaK gun, with the double-Y indicating a quadruple 2cm mount? As opposed to the 3.7cm mount (hence the need to differentiate)?*** The Y with 2 doesn't mean 2cm FlAK (Flieger Abwehr Kanone) All the machineguns in Wehrmacht 1940 are MG34 right? This means LMG as well as HMG. HMG means that it has a tripod and a bigger crew with a spotter and a few guys carrying barrels and AMMO. The 2 above the symbol just means two weapons. (didn't know btw that the common deployment of HMG's was in pairs! why?) The rate of fire of the MG34 and the MG42 made that it could only be operated as an HMG if the supply of ammo was ample. Also after periods of cyclic the barrel had to be replaced (or else it will weld together!). German MG's in the LMG role, mean the same weapon but sacrificing firepower for mobility and versatility. The HMG role is best for defending positions and suppressing defenders from larger range. LMG role is for assault and infiltration purposes. At least that is my educated guess. The double v makes me think that we are dealing with a 20mm gun with some AP ability In the picture that Hans shows us, the attacking platoons will defintely bring their own MG34's , because, as you all know, you have to lay down lead whilst attacking, otherwise the other guy will fire back! Reading from Hans' Map, the Germans are committing a full INF battalion here with 3 INF companies in the attack, my guess is that they bring around 15 to 25 MG34's with them (don't know frequency of MG34 per platoon in 1940)? So the thermometer with dots can't be an MG34 in LMG role, it doesn't have significant firepower to justify it's own symbol on this battlemap. Think about MG34 in HMG role as current 5.56/7.62 minigun and MG34 in LMG role as current M60/FN MAG. The current FN minimi (you guys call it m249 SAW I believe) in my eyes is what the MG34 LMG role was supposed to be. The minimi is probably much more effective than the MG34 in LMG role (also MUCH better than BAR and Brengun) due to it's compactness rate of fire and 1 man crew with 600/800 rounds of ammo. .........OMG I have too much time cheers from holland
