  1. Thanks for testing it so far So whats your thoughts on the AI then in general? Not worth playing?
  2. Gorgin, hmmm I was a bit confused by your statments ... but Taojah was refering to a group of men ie corps ... and true they might leave alot of dead bodies or corpses in their path ya the english language is tricky; even for me and its my native tongue
  3. WoW I cant wait to see how you do! Post your progress here if you want
  4. -note- I cant remember exactly but were you the one 'testing'(as in showing after the fact) the single player aspect with the patches showing how easy it was to beat the A.I. I'm wondering how you feel the new patch has helped the single player gameplay. Is it still really easy to beat (the A.I.) To be honest I really havnt played the game much after beating it a few times (without trying hard) and seeing posts by different people about how easy the single player game is and how lousey the A.I. does with amph. assults etc ... So what's your thoughts now after the recent patch ...
  5. I'm quite dissappointed too with the AI ... Now I'm not blaming the testers persay but IMO there did seem to be alot of time devoted to mutiplayer while it appears most people are playing this game single player. I wanted a game where if played on the hardest setting it would be very difficult to beat. I wanted something challenging. I wouldnt have bought this game if I knew that the AI wouldnt be that challenging
  6. Ai does count ... many people bought this game to mainly play the AI and we like it to be challenging. TaoJah, try without softbuild limits like the others said and see how things work out.
  7. I was checking out gamespot and came across this http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/commandereuropeatwar/screenindex.html?sid=6151497 not much is known about the game (probably in the early stages). But I noticed how the map looked real familiar ... In regards to SC2 I hope the new patch fixes alot of the AI issues; I havnt played the game since the first week after I recieved it.
  8. I got HOI 2 when it first came out ... I played it for a few days then kind of stopped. There is so much in that game that you kind of get lost at times; and it was kind of tough too. I tried just playing as hungrey I think just so I could play using a smaller army and provinces/ germany there is so many armies and provinces that turns took forever. Maybe I'll load it up thou; I am in the same boat ie SC2 bored me also after only a week or so (ie I wanted to play mostly single player and it isnt that fun). Rome total war was real fun for me; and the barbarian invasion. Simialr to HoI but when you go into combat you control the troops. You will need a decent computer to run RTW thou; well depends on what settings you have. RTW can get old also so every game has there ups and downs
  9. I concur I wasnt excited about AOE 3 at all either ... and I have been a fan of the series for a long time; often was in the top 25 online (mutiplayer). In all honesty the AOE etc games have been really good strategy games. You had to have excellent reflaxes, quick fingers and knew how to outthink your opponenet. Problem with those games thou there was always imbalances which turned me away from the games.
  10. Ya the review was a bit off; the thing I dont agree on is the computer AI giving you a good game. In all honesty I havnt played a game in almost 2 weeks because of the weak AI (I really hope HC gets a decent patch soon). I'm dissapointed with the AI; some people like myself prefer to fight the AI. The comparrison to RTW was a bit strange since these are totally differnt games. But one thing I have to say the total war series is just plane awesome if you like those types of games.
  11. I totally agree; naval costs should be lower at least by 1/3 if not by 50%. Funny how this is one of the things that stuck with me from SC1 ie dont buy nothing and dont repair much. I really hope HC includes a cost reduction in the patch; will make using naval vessels much more fun.
  12. Thanks for the info HC hope you are having a nice holiday - btw I really enjoy the new 3d unit icons so far I really like the changes that you made since SC1; ie air power doesnt seem overpowered, the move then attack function, the whole diplomacey thing, the way you can upgrade units with which techs you want too, the engineer unit, the editor! (which I havnt even looked into yet) ...
  13. I have a few questions about the game ... 1. As allies and canada - you get a bomber over in canada early on. I cant seem to do anything with this bomber; cant operate it over to englund and cant transport it elsewhere. 2. Can HQ of a allie help supply another allie? ie a HQ of the US supply british troops? 3. Why is it some turns my planes cant attack? but other turns they can? or maybe their range is very low (not sure). 4. Is a observation - seems germany and Italy dont use thier warships much.
  14. Desert Dave ... you remind me of Tom Bombadil from the lord of the rings
  15. Many of us grew up hearing about WWII and its leaders and what each country did or didnt do that played a role in their winning or losing the war. Being back there and being able to control a whole country and its war powers is something many of us enjoy. WWII is probably the most talked about war in history.
  16. Blashy you keep implying to stop playing the AI if we want to play and enjoy the game ... the thing is most people that buy this game will be playing the AI mainly. I would venture to say at least 75% of all games played are vs the AI. So most people want a competent AI; and while its true there is a editor that we can 'attempt' to bring the AI to a more challenging level; most of us were hoping the game would already be challenging out of the box and only need some minor tweeks. Dont get me wrong; I really like the game so far from what I have seen and my hat is off to Hubert for bringing it to us. Hopefully the AI will get buffed to a point where it would be challenging to play vs. I'm interested in tweeking the AI but I plan on waiting till some of the major bugs are addressed first (ie like the US not playing much of a role).
  17. Thanks Blashy for the info and Sombra this will probably be annoying before italy enters the war but after it wont be as much of a issue (although for units that you want to just sit there (ie guarding a city) I could see how this feature would be beneficial.
  18. So I'm playing my first game here vs the computer. So I have control of italy; but they are not in the war yet? is that correct? If I remember right it said something about 65% or something like that. So whats the best way to handle italy at the start. Is it beneficial to use germany chits on italy? or just try to build up their research? Or is it best to hope they dont join soon and see how far you can get with germany? Does SC2 work like SC1 where each country that joined the axis that made the US and the USSR join the allies faster?
  19. Showing my excitment for a grand theatre WWII game. If I remember correctly I think it was Eastern Front 1941 that first got me addicted to this type of scale (WWII game). Then much later Clash of Steel came out (this was a awesome game and I spent many hours playing it when I should of been going to class SC1 was awesome also; only reason I stopped playing it was the fact that air power ruled late game and that got repeditive and boring. Now with SC2 we can mod the game so it should be playable vs the A.I. for many many moons.
  20. That's the way I hope this game is made; where the historical accuracies are there but there are also choices on what you will do with those strengths/weaknesses. In SC1 many times I took spain or I went though turkey to russia (granted this was against the computer); but I really like being able to decide when and where I am going to attack.
  21. ahh Great looks like that fixed it ... must be the direct x9; I was using 8.1 when I last played it. thanks for the help look forward to trying out the new changes Dulak [ March 03, 2003, 01:13 PM: Message edited by: Dulak ]
  22. Well ... I did a fresh install of the game; ie played it on my other drive but this is a newer drive. So installed the game then installed the lastest patch (is it 1.6~) amd 1.7~ 512 ram winxp(all updates) radeon 8500 (catelyst 3.0 drivers with dx 9), turtle beach santa cruz (newest driver); this is a desp top pc not a laptop. I played sc before patch 1.2 or 1.3~ then gave it up for a bit or was it patch 1.4 ... anyways the things that changed with my system since I played it then and now ... I'm using dx9 with catelyst 3 drivers also added 256 ram; and of course I am using 1.6 patch (newest). So I am really unsure if the problem is from the newest patch or dx9 or catalyst drivers or something I am unaware about. thanks Dulak
  23. Hail, I havnt played SC in awhile; and decided to try out the new patch. I reinstalled SC and installed patch 1.6 game seems to run fine except for one thing ... The screen flashes everytime I end turn/go to any other menu ie options/warmap etcetc. Kind of annoying and stalls gameplay ie the screen takes like 5 seconds to flash. I recently installed direct x9 on a radeon 8500 using win xp and the catelyst 3.0 drivers. any idea what might be the problem or how to fix it? thanks, Dulak
