  1. Started a game where I have BT-2 tanks for the Russians and am getting completely blank bitmaps (white). I have reinstalled the game twice with no success. Was wondering if someone knows what bitmap numbers are used for the BT-2 so I can find and fix them or get someone to email them to me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  2. Unfortunately, I have not seen any of the mods you have asked for. I have requested them a few times as I too miss the bright colors of CMBO. Someday...
  3. Thanks SFJaykey for the link. Or should I say thanks in German or Russian?
  4. Thanks for all the great replies to this post. Both for and against the addition of this type of mod or feature for the new game. I noticed though that many people feel this is a debate or a personal attack against their language. The fact is, its not. The overall census will not add or remove the idea, depending on how many people vote for or against a new mod or feature in the next game. It is just a suggestion! All that matters is IF a MODER decides to make this type of mod (Or not make it), they will. Will it be used? I believe it will for some people, but not for others. Same as every other mod out there. And as stated previously, if you dont like a mod, dont use it. There are many outstanding mods out there that I dont use. Of course, I would never tell the person who made them, because they may stop making other outstanding mods.
  5. samba_liten, I agree with you about listening to the native languages of the Russian/Germans. I like to hear them. But I would like to know what they are saying during the game. With an English mod, hey it could be any language mod (ie. All German) at least I could understand what was being said and even be able to switch back and forth between mods to learn a little of the languages. Thanks for the reply.
  6. Andreas, Thanks for your limited input, Very insightful
  7. Ahhh the old days. Good times, good times. aka_tom_w, Just posted a suggestion about a mod for English speaking Germans/Russians. Then read your post. I think it would be a good idea.
  8. Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but its just a suggestion to any sound modders out there. Why not have a mod where the Russians/Germans or whoever speak English with an appropriate accent. It would make for an interesting CMBB experience. What do you think?
  9. I have found the same thing. It sounds like they are getting pretty annoyed, with good cause. If it were me, I would want to RAM the other tank, firing HE until impact. Wishful thinking for the next game.
  10. I sympathize with you. It hurts when you do things right and still end up with smoking husks of metal. Here is one explanation of what happened. OK Fritz, I have radioed the other Nashorns to move into position. You are to fire at will. Radio the other commanders the range vectors as soon as you get a hit. Ready!... FIRE! Missed 50 meters to the right, adjust and compensate for wind. Radioed coordinates. Breach loaded... Ready!... FIRE! 25 meters to the left, adjust and compensate! Radioed coordinates...again. We are now taking incoming fire. "Gulp". Breach loaded... Ready!... FIRE! 25 meters to the right. What the hell! Fritz? Do you have your glasses on? Where are they...where are they? How the $$& should I know? And so the story continues...
  11. I have to say the brighter colored terrain and tanks. The subdued mods are nice but I enjoyed the colorful ones in CMBO. Both Terrain and tanks.
  12. In CMBO I started a scenario against the AI (cant remember the name), I had to move my men and tanks as covertly as possible up to and into a town. I managed to get into the town without anyone shooting at me and thought I was doing well. I then proceeded to take the victory flag with no casualties or any sign of the enemy. After a couple more turns of scratching my head, I decided to surrender the game and found that all the enemy were lined up at the very edge of the map and on the reverse slope of a small hill all across the map. The person that designed the map did not bother to set up the men and the AI just didnt move anyone. Needless to say, I still lost. That AI sure can be tricky.
  13. Sorry for your bad luck. I am sure that everyone has had some bad experiences. Thats just the reality of CMBB and real life. Here is one of many ways that your predicament could be explained: Psst. Psst! Fritz...hey Fritz, you idiot. Get off your ass and get ready for that T34 coming this way. I dont care if your tired. I said move your ass right now! He is getting closer. What the hell? Thats just great... Here I am trying to survive this bloody war when this morning I am told to sneak under cover to these trees and take out the T34 that has been giving us lots of problems. Well I manage to make it here alive, with no help from you. (Mister 2 left feet). But, then the soldier (Ya Fritz, I mean you!) that is supposed to help me, cant even hold on to a Panzerschreck without dropping it in the mud. Well just dont sit there, pick it up and wipe it off. God help me that I had to get stuck with someone who... Oh **** !!! He may have spotted us. He is stopping... (10 long seconds go by) Whew... he is turning and backing up. That gives us a flank shot! Hurry up... I dont care if your getting mud on your hands, MOVE IT!!! What the F#@$ !!! OF course you cant see anything when you aim. You didnt clean the mud out of the aiming sites. Whatever you do, dont shoot until that aiming site is clean of... (Whoosh): Fritz shoots Panzerschrek Thats just great, nice shot asshole. You only missed by 30 meters. Why dont you try again so they can find out where we are hiding. (Whoosh): Fritz shoots Panzerschrek (and so the story continues...)
  14. On page 231 of the CMBB manual, it lists how to view the Frame Rate. eg. Shift - Y. But when I do this nothing happens. I have tried from different screens during game play and during setup, with no luck. I have tried this with the latest patch (1.02) and the new beta patch (1.03). I am running Windows 98SE Athlon 2.2+ GIG, 512 MEGS of RAM, TI4200 Video Card with 128Megs. Any suggestions would be appreciated? Thanks
  15. Wow, could be a lot of things. Cant really tell you much more. Could be your DSL service, especially if it worked after the third send. Could also be a problem with how the file is sent. Is it still a text file when you get it? (PBEM.txt) Guessing that Outlook (Or Outlook Express?) can sometimes modify your files depending on your security. Firewalls do this too. May even be your DSL Service doing this. You could check and see if the file is "Read Only" (Right click file, left click properties). Although I cant say for sure if it wouldnt work if it was. Maybe best to wait a day and then resend the files or wait for someone else to post another idea. Good Luck!
  16. Check to see if one or both of them are running the 1.03 beta patch.
  17. A while ago, I played this opponent that I found very rude, he would not say anything during a game or respond to my messages. He was also kind of creepy because every time I finished a turn he would always have his turn done and sent right back (almost immediately). His CMBO and CMBB skills were not that great, so I didnt loose to him too often. Anyway, never did find what his name was, but his initials were: A.I.
  18. I have found that the AI does respond to exit zones but at a much slower rate than a human. Opposition will stop or slow them to a crawl. It may be in your best interest to add some flags in key locations to help out the AI.
  19. Not sure about any command line switches, but to stop the intro movie from playing, hold down the shift key when CMBO starts. Bottom of page 7 in the manual. Also, you might want to check out PBEM helper. It will automate your game a little more. PBEM Helper I think thats the right page. For more information, you could do a search on it.
  20. I found the soundpack a great addition to CMBO. The other sound files suggested by nevermind are also worth getting.
  21. Personally, I think there is very little in the game that can be considered "Gamey", unless its a bug in the game that can be capitalized on. As the saying goes. "All is fair in love and war." Of course, if there is a mutual agreement made before the game, then those rules must be followed. And yet, there will always be some situations where you feel uncomfortable doing because it may be considered "gamey". For instance, recently I have been setting up a pbem game where both sides have very simular men and equipment and are on a map that is geographically the same for both sides (mirror imaged). Now my problem/dilema. Because I know that we both start in opposite corners of the map, would it be "Gamey" to drop artillery in the first turn with the chance that if my opponent does not change his default setup for men and vehicles, the barrage could be devastating. Although, I dont think I would do this sort of thing, I have set up my men just in case this situation would occur. My conscience does not allow me to attack this way, but I cant say for sure if my opponent would. Same thing in a real war. There are some things that you would or could not do, but your enemy will.
  22. Without getting all wishy-washy and teary eyed, I just wanted to thank all the opponents out there (and the few that I have) that make this game great. No game is perfect but a good opponent can make it seem so. Battles with a good opponent who constantly challenges your abilities and always seems to surprise you with a brilliant tactic makes me look forward to another battle. And I think its fair to say that some of the best battles where not always won, but were well fought. Kudos to the AI as well, my most seasoned opponent.
