  1. I will back the campaign of Seanachai for Master of the Universe, as posted on the outerboards (a place where all the young'uns seem to be in awe of him), as long as he finds another universe to be master of. Hmmm. there is a nice red dwarf called Ipsilon Indi, about 10,000 light years from here. Has anyone on the forum figured out how to make warp drive work yet? Perhaps we could strap him to the next test launch of a North Korean super SCUD missle, I understand they can reach escape velocity now with the new Kim Chi-AIV engines.(Can any rocket grogs verify this?) If not he'll burn up on re-entry. Good for us either way. Merry Christmas to everyone, except Panzer Leader who has stopped sending turns, and Speedy because.....well because he's just an Aussie. 2. 67,000 Japanese people were killed outright by the two atomic bombs. 36,000 died within the next four months as a result of the bombs. That would leave an estimated 200,000 killed by the firebombings, and conventional bombing campaigns during the last year of the war. Of course no true accounting can be made for all deaths, but it would seem to me that the low number is due to the fact that real heavy bombing of Japan did not take effect until late in the war. My father served in the Pacific with the Marine Corps during the war. He was part of the occupation forces after the war ended. He told me a story about when the ship he was on pulled into Tokyo Bay in August of 1945, all the guys were up on deck, an he said that you could see from one end of the city to another, and the only things that were standing were some brick chimmneys. There was actually nothing left of Tokyo or Yokahama. What horrible things we do to each other.
  3. Would Mohammed Ali in his prime beaten Mike Tyson in his?
  4. It is not surprising that Japanese Military deaths are higher than civilian, as opposed to the numbers in the European Theater. A lot of the major battles in the Pacific were fought on remote islands and atolls that did not have major civilian populations. The major civilian losses for the Japanese occurred late in the war when the American bombers had bases from which to strike Japan. Most European cities were under bombing attacks from very early on in the war. I do not have exact figures at hand, but there were nearly 50,000 Japanese troops defending Iwo Jima, less than 100 were taken prisoner,IIRC. The rest were killed outright, committed suicide, or were buried alive in their caves. Japanese soldiers were reluctant to surrender because of their social codes, I would imagine the higher numbers of military deaths would include those that committed suicide, either alone, in groups, or in organized suicide missions, i.e. the Kamekazi pilots. The very unfortunate fact of war still remains... people are killed, and not only soldiers directly involved. Maybe we will learn someday.
  5. Available on Long Island, NY in the CompUSA stores in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
  6. Practice, practice, practice. If you want put together an infantry heavy QB, and send me the setup PBEM . Playing against a human opponent is much more fun, and we can critique each other as we go along. Ive been playing for a bout six months and I suck at it as well. Misery loves comapny, we can help each other out. Email is in profile.
  7. Looks like an M-1A1, with turret turned to the rear, note red marker light. Gun could have been deliberately spiked, or an HE shell hung and went off in barrel. Who knows? We need some real Grog opinions here, or some Gulf War tankers to speculate on this.
  8. An interesting passage from the book "Jochen Peiper" by Charles Whiting, an exchange between Lt.Col Burton Ellis, one of the prosecutors at the Nuremburg Trials, and Peiper, who was on the stand. Ellis was pushing Peiper to determine if units in his KG had murdered Belgian civilians in Bullingen. "Dealing with alleged murders of Belgian civilians at Bullingen, Ellis asked Peiper, "Did you see an 80 year old woman firing at you from the windows there in Bullingen?" "In those short moments I had no occasion to determine the age of the person firing," Peiper replied sardonically. Ellis persisted:"Did you see a one year old baby firing at you from the window in Bullingen?" Peiper allowed himself a cold smile," No, not even in Russia did I see any one year old babies firing"
  9. Lurker It is apparent to me that you and I will never get our "special" battle to determine who is the senior Squire, why dont you and I just work something out, and let the rest of these twits suck wind.
  10. The demo really is not the way for a beginner to start out with CM. It was designed as a vehicle to demonstrate new features and as such is geared toward players who were familiar with the CM game. I would suggest that you order the complete game, and start from there. Also you can read all of the good information in this forum while you are waiting for the game to arrive. Beleive me if you have any interest at all in this game you will not be disappointed.
  11. They took it down to add the DD terrain pak to CMMOS.

  13. Leeo Heartfelt well wishes for your Mom, especially difficult during the Christmas Season. End of seriousness,,,,,,, Here's a little Christmas ditty, that the boys in 1/26 used to sing back in another time and in another world called Khe Sanh. Jingle Bells.. Mortar shells... VC in the grass.... Take your Merry Christmas and shove it up your *ss We had a barbed wire stake with green socks and C-rat cans hanging on it as our Christmas Tree. It was cold as hell up there in December, the monsoon winds kept the temps down in the 40sF at night. Of course we were supplied with tropical clothing, I guess the "best and the brightest" never thought to check the weather reports for South East Asia before they shipped our butts over there. Oh well...as I said another time another world. G'day everyone.
  14. Mrspnkr: That "Nidiot" should be bolded, you ambulance chasing flatulence container.
