  1. That's the way it is going to appear to somebody when they go there to troll and then call out for assists from their droogs. Bring your A-game and contribute something of worth, stand as an individual on your own merits, and you'll see that the playing field, while not always well-disposed to you, will be much more varied. Wargames tend to attract opinionated and competitive people, often times perhaps lacking somewhat in social graces, to put it delicately.
  2. That's The Akron Home For the Chronically Rude...</font>
  3. I suppose Sturmy will be popping in shortly as well. </font>
  4. Great! Just great! I only read this after this happened... Windy day today. I suppose Sturmy will be popping in shortly as well.
  5. Actually, I *am* surprised he did make it that far. Though my paranoid side says that you did that thinking he would make a (in)decent jester for the thread. Or perhaps village idiot would be more fitting.
  6. *wipes crocodile tear from eye* I've attained to the level of SSN. I never thought I'd go so far in life! *blows into hanky* The standards haven't dropped... or have they?
  7. Since Berli says my signature is scrawled in blood on some parchment in his possession, I thought I might as well be thorough and follow through on my fall from grace and post in here along with the lot of you reprobates. I shall try not to mention anything math-related here as I believe a certain Gnome breaks out into hives whenever I even verge on doing so. So what does that leave me to make a witty comment on... err... Python quotes have been done to death here. So that's out. Drinking is de rigeur likewise. Bugger. I'll get back to you on this.
  8. Japanese Ping Pong? Check it out... in homemade "bullet time".
  9. That would make good .sig material, but I will let that slip.
  10. I'm glad Haohmaru framed his questions in the way he did and for Moon's reply. I will own up to being somewhat dissapointed by the top-down 2d representation shown in the screenshots, but feeling hesistant to voice them (there being more than enough unreasonable complaints around here that DiF is "not Il-2"). The reasons given for the presentation are clear and on the face of it appear very sound, but I fear for the sense of immersion that is especially important for air combat. It's been said that the testers are having a blast, but frankly that doesn't jump out at *me* from the screenies, so I would forgive anybody for walking away with that impression. I will of course look forward to the demo release to experience rather than have to imagine "the feel" of it. That MNB will be 3d from the get-go is very good news!
  11. Aubrey: *tuning up with Maturin* "Killick? Killick there!" Killick: *annoyed, in Captain's mess* "It will be ready when it's ready!"
  12. Just thought I'd stick my snout in here for a look. The fridge shot made my day! Obligatory image (nod to Prinz Eugen): I CAN WALK!! (for good measure:  )
  13. Seeing as it is available for free (not for resale) over the web, I am taking the liberty of quoting from the rules of Cold War Naval Battles, available here ("rules", a zipped .doc)(thanks again for the pointer, Harv). I added some spacing and bolding of headers for easier reading and only took sections one through six for the sake of brevity (these cover the bare bones of the game I think). If this is a no-no, I will gladly delete this post. Hopefully, this will give a better picture of what kind of game MNB will be like, though obviously Dan, bartbert, and Battlefront are taking the opportunity to kick it up a notch for the home computer. I take it this is the design taken as the starting point for Modern Naval Battles: WWII at Sea, correct?
  14. Moon, great! Nothing wrong with a "TBD" per se. I'll be looking forward to the website and associated bone throws.
  15. Ron got to the crux of it. I just stopped in for a look and couldn't help but notice what to me sounded like something bordering on a chauvinistic statement. I thought perhaps some of the SC folks should know that the CMBB forum has had discussions of this nature that blew my hair back at the depth of knowledge some of the notable posters displayed. Sorry to have bugged you with mindless comments, Kuniworth.
  16. Just a suggestion here: Some of you guys might want to consider putting down the memoirs of Guderian, Manstein, and von Mellenthin, (or all those grotty old copies of Signal); and consider taking up recent scholarship on the Red Army, Glantz say. Such a degree of numerical superiority at the point of contact was achieved by concentration of their forces. The overall numerical superiority was not as great as it is often made out to be. This concentration, in the case of the Bagration operation, was achieved without German intel finding out about it before it was too late. This is what Grisha means when he talks about late war superiority of the Red Army in operational art (the level between tactics and strategy, which intimately involves the less glamorous aspects of OpSec and logistics).
  17. Hmm. Wonder what Grisha and Andreas would say to this? But I doubt they drop in here very much. Copy posting this over to the CMBB forum would be an interesting excercise, I think. Maskirovka. *cough* Bagration. *cough* *cough*
  18. It's the cannon's 'caliber' which in this instance refers not to the bore diameter, but the length of the barrel in terms of a multiple of the bore diameter. Thus "7,5 cm PaK 40 L/46" gives you: 75mm bore diameter. Barrel length of 75mm x 46 = 3450 mm (3.45 meters). To launch shells with higher velocity, you need to burn more propellent, which takes more time, so lengthening of the barrel is necessary to provide more "working distance" (like increasing the piston stroke of an engine).
  19. USN sub crewmen who had the chance to inspect type XXI boats after the end of the war would likely diagree with you. As with many pieces of German "wonder gear" they look better on paper. They were rushed in design and construction.
