  1. Subvet, it's an old topic if MUCH more manpower should be invested into an only slightly improved AI, or if BFCs power should be invested in other things, where there exists no workaround. There's a very simple solution for your problem: play against a human and you'll see, that the (compared to other strategy-games, excellent) AI is made more or less for training and you'll only have the REAL CM-fun, if you play against a human opponent. There will be soon a lots of premade scenarios out there, that will give the AI what it needs, to ruin your day. Playing a QB against the AI isn't really the sense for QBs, is it? 2. First i'll finish all my open CMBO PBEMs bfore buying CMBB, but i'm wondering if this bug is solved in CMBB: MG troops panicking and running away are taking their hMG and ammunition with them. [ October 01, 2002, 12:56 PM: Message edited by: Schoerner ]
  3. Thanks for the insight, Steve. People outside nowadays "Germany" can hardly know what the reasons for such a behaviour are. I'll try to explain: all of our grandparents were murderers. There were no good german soldiers fighting for their country. Only the deserters were acting in a honorably way. Even more: the school books don't know a difference of Waffen-SS, SS and Sondereinsatzkommandos. And till today i've never seen only ONCE of a "documentation" on TV, where a historican explained the differences - and there are a LOT of "documentations" about our worst of all nations and our BAD BAD and stupid grandparents. If you say publicly, that the Waffen-SS was a normal fighting part of the Heer, you are a Nazi. If you are wearing hundreds of years old german emblems and runes, you're a Nazi. The system established a historical-picture of german history, that contains bad things only. If you are declaring, that you are proud to be a german - you're a Nazi. If you say, you can identify with old german culture: you're a Nazi. For people not living in nowadays "Germany" it's incredibly, how we are treating our fallen soldiers. I don't want to talk about the reasons how and why this happened, 'cause this would lead away from the topic. Summaring up: don't expect from a normal "German" that he is going upright. He's spitting on the dead and fallen grandparents and he's feeling like a freedom-fighter, when he's pissing on their graves. Making a russian-looking cover, would not be very attracting for buyers in Britain or France. But making a - like BFC did in the normal version - germans not demonizing cover, would be politically incorrect in Germany and making it a Nazi-game. Making a cover demonizing germans and making russians to heros or liberators, would not be understood in many other regions and countries (i.e. Finland; nordic countries) and would also not be psychologically attractive. Therefore the best tactical and most detailed WWII combat-simulation in the world, dealing with Barbarossa, gets from a "german" company a pilitically correct and therefore historically wrong cover. The behaviour of CDV is only fitting into the whole condition of this society - not worth calling a nation. 1945: finis germaniae. [ October 01, 2002, 10:58 AM: Message edited by: Schoerner ]
  4. You can let the unit details open and click on next unit. The window refreshes automatically. Nevertheless a passenger-marking would be very useful.
  5. Hi Storm Binder, check out www.theblitz.org Detailed statistics from each player let you choose appropriate opponents with levels similar to your's. Also a good balance of lots of Axis and Allied players let you, if you want so, play your favourite side only. But be aware: playing against humans increases playing fun enormously (i know it sounds unbelievable, that CM playing-fun can be topped, but just try it out... . Hope to see you soon on the ladder. 6. The answer is quite simple: even today the international socialists and marxists do the same, to obscure, that Nationalsocialism is a kind of socialism. Target is to suggest the only possible solution for a socialistic society is INTERNATIONALISTIC socialism. As everyone nowadays can see, the international socialists and the international capitalists have much more in common than nationalistic movements: ONE WORLD - dissolution of the nations and cultures and replacing with liberal individuals without roots are 1. the best consumers 2. have the biggest potential for revolution, due to no roots/culture (old marxistic plan; very good observable from 1968 on: permissive "education", "all same - all equal", families are unnecessary,...) With the lost WWII, the international socialists took the monopoly over socialism. Therefore since 1945 the "socialists" and the capitalists have one thing in common: internationalism. It's quite amusing to see "antiimperialists" demonstrating against "this kind of globalization". Do they not know, that marxism and capitalism are the two sides of the same medal? The border is not - like always said - "left" or "right". This is only part of the old principle DIVIDE ET IMPERA (keeping nations divided into different interest-groups). A quite good scheme to see how false the everywhere used terms are, is a cartesian coordinate-system: x-axis goes from internationalistic to nationalistic y-axis: capitalistic-socialistic If you use this scheme for analyzation, you'll be surprised, how "pluralistic" our western world really is... 7. Thank you for your replies. I found the Rage3D Tweaker and all i could get was so much fog, that nothing of battlefield was visible, due to a grey screen. I also tried the ATI patch for another game (GTA III), but nothing changed. I just downloaded the newest Catalyst v2.2 (9050) drivers. I'll let you know, if they solve the problem. BTW: the rage3d.com forums are full with topics about fog problems of the ATI chips. Hope they will fix it, 'cause even my old TNT2ultra was able of showing fog. Since i played Tom's Battle Of The Bulge mod with light fog, i know what we are missing
  8. I'm wondering if CMBB will show fog with the Radeon chips, like other games do?
  9. Guys, what you tell is very promising. Seems that CMBB made a huge step closer to even more realism. Keep on telling us (non demo downloaders) your experiences.
  10. During the last days i searched the net and found extremely helpful information i wanna share with you: if you're in need of a new graphics card: it's the right time NOW! The Radeon8500(LE) is sold out and atm extremely cheap (i ordered one yesterday). For those of you that are living in US, you should check out www.newegg.com. If you want additional information, here you'll find extremely good forums, covering all your questions you could have: http://www.sharkyforums.com/forumdisplay.php?s=d1ac6d0768dbaec9f1348c53a80cea2d&forumid=14 Reviews can be found here: http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/videocards/index.php http://www.tomshardware.com/ Hope this helps some of you.
  11. One of my first PBEM QickBattles: 1000points. My armour: Hetzer and PzIV The map is flat but has a higher center with good LOS and with a few houses around. My inf is proceeding forwards on both sides of the big plateau. My sMG42s are also in excellent positions. I also predicted where the enemy will drop his arty and a hidden platoon survived the attack with no losses. I was feeling like a general. What a great game! Then the enemy moves a Jackson exactly where i guessed on the plateau. Everything's developing fine. The Jackson has good LOS to all further positions where the infantry could move to. So i decide what i always dreamt of to do since i own CM: to proove the enemy, that i'm the best. I make a genius plan for eliminating the positive aspects of the fast turret and the excellent position: I'll move both of my tanks down the street and when the LOS of the Jackson starts after the house on the left beside the street, i'll face the direction of the fast turret with two veteran tanks! I'm really the best commander. I move the tanks closer to their last position before attack. I give smoke orders around the corner of the house for giving my beloved tanks the time for turning into the Jackson's direction and add 30 seconds to be on the safe side with the development of the smoke. The turn starts, my tanks are shooting their smoke straight ahead somewhere into the woods aand they take their positions where i ordered them to go... 12. Thanks for the reply Madmatt. The only thing the CAN'T be selected? WOW!!! [ August 22, 2002, 02:21 PM: Message edited by: Schoerner ]
  13. Does anybody know, if ground conditions will be selectable for quick battles? [ August 22, 2002, 01:30 PM: Message edited by: Schoerner ]
  14. AHHHHHHG! Not the grid overlay question. Repeat after me: Grids are unnatural, grids are the enemy. Grids should only be produced by modders after long hours fiddling with terrain tiles. Oh, and if you must have them, grids should be hexagonal! BTW what ever happen to the grid war threads, the topic has been quiet for ages?</font>
  15. I'm wondering if CMBB will have a grid overlay option.
  16. I would never call a state where the nations didn't want voluntarily live in and where they were forced by the military power of the government to accept this wonderful building, democratic. The Slovakians were that glad with this state, that they were demanding since 30th May 1918 (Contract of Pittsburg) the promised independency. They had bad luck: the government of this "democratic" state answered with military force. Therefore the Slovakians asked the German Reich for protection. Maybe you should take a look at the Münchner Abkommen: after the robbed (it was taken from germany against all international laws) german territory got back into the Reich, the only demand of Germany to accept the borders of Cechoslovakia was (attention, very bad!), that the CZ government has to gratifie the rights of the non cech nations. A classic example for nationalism vs. chauvinism. As soon as the Slovaks and Cechs got rid of the communistic system, they decided not to life in one state together. Strange. Not really - only a proove, that this was an artificial state constructed by the imperialistic patent-democrats.
  17. All movies have the same problem: a historically correct film, would need to be politically incorrect. Especially the movies from Germany are pure propaganda movies. Don't expect historical truth. As we all know: on the german side, the deserters and cowards were the good ones, while the idealists and the normal soldiers, fulfilling their duty, were the silly ones in the better case, in the worse the criminals. Especially Stalingrad is very subversive and aditionally full of historical nonsense. IMO only "Das Boot" is acceptable - also subversive, but at least the action seems to be quite realistic and the characters are not that easy to put into good or bad categories.
  18. You shouldn't confuse Nationalism with Chauvinism and artificial states made by war-winners with nation-states, where each nation can determine it's own future and isn't suppressed by another. You shouldn't forget, that after WWI, the Allied winners were not willing anymore to remember about Wilson's 14 points - the neglected main point was the self-determination-right of nations. Instead of the self-determination-right of nations the artificial state Czechoslovakia was created (millions of Hungarians and Germans were forced to live in this nation-prison - even the name was a lie: the Chechs were a minority that was chosen by the "good" allied winners, to rule over foreign nations in this territory). As Roosevelt stated long before WWII: Cechoslovakia is USA's first aircraft carrier against Germany. What i want to say is, that it isn't enough to believe the phrases - it's much more interesting and very exciting, to take an objective, non moralizing look at the decisions and actions, that had lead to the tensions and (very enlighting!) the suggestions of the different sides to solve it. But this look isn't very agreeable for the winners and the usefullness-sneezes of WWI & II.
  19. Some withheld facts: Between 1918 and 1939 Poland fought against all it's neighbour-states. Before the war against Germany broke out, polish newspapers dreamt of a march towards Berlin and even maps were shown, where Berlin was part of Poland.
  20. can't find Shane Peterson's, Andrew Fox's and Mr. Clark's Kübelwagen Mods @ CombatMissionHQ (and also some other MODs appearing as not installed in the CMMOS). Does anyone know, where i can download them?
  21. Thank you all for the fast and good replies. @YankeeDog: thanks for your nice words about my English - so there's still hope.
  22. I did a search in the forum, but couldn't find useful info. I'm going to play a PBEM scenario with light snow. I don't have any experiences with this ground conditions: is it dangerous for tanks to become immobilized? I'm also wondering how dangerous it is for tanks (Panther), if they are moved on tracks (for trains; my dictionary gave me this word). If i'm remembering correctly, months ago i lost a halftrack and a StuG when moving on tracks. Anyone with experiences? [ August 15, 2002, 03:16 PM: Message edited by: Schoerner ]
  23. Have to agree, Mattias. Ofcourse the T34 was a very good tank, but we should keep in mind, that when the T34 came out, it mostly had to face PzIV only and even PzIII. When Tiger and Panther became available in acceptable numbers, the T34 had a hard stand. On the western front, the Shermans had to face them all the time. Maybe therefore they don't have such a "glorious" image like the T34. Wstern vs. Eastern front: I'm more interested in the eastern front, too. IMHO the vehemence of the fight on the eastern front is hardly comparable to the war on the western front (i mean the fight between troops). I'm aware of, that for US-, UK-,.. players, the western front has more priority, but from a historical point of view, i don't find it necessary to adapt CMBO to CMBB standards. The much better solution would be, that BFC invests all it's energy in a new engine and afterwards maybe returns to the western front. [ August 14, 2002, 05:19 PM: Message edited by: Schoerner ]
