  1. This may be a stupid question, but how do I find out what my sound card is?
  2. My best last turn MPP is 485 for the Germans. Countries I conquered: Low Countries, France, UK. Countries that joined me: Spain, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria.
  3. Well, I'm not sure what to say. What kind of game were you expecting at this scale?
  4. Although Strategic Command is obviously influenced by Clash of Steel to a certain extent, it is by no means "simply a copy". The combat system for example is actually more similar to that of Panzer General. Did you actually try the demo? [ May 22, 2002, 05:59 AM: Message edited by: Ancient One ]
  5. This game is a masterpiece, combining the best elements of Clash of Steel and Panzer General. I was able to conquer the UK as the Axis one game. Spain joined me a couple turns after the fall of London, unfortunately the US entered the war soon after, and the USSR entered on the last turn. There was a large force of Americans on their way to reinforce the British, but after the UK surrendered they turned around and set up a defence in Canada.
  6. I have the same problem, I think it has something to do with the sound. One time the game crashed, but the music kept playing. When I went back into the game, the clicks then registered fine but the sound option in the options menu was greyed out.
  7. I just know. How I know is not important.
  8. I expect the demo to be released in the last week of May at the very earliest, more probably early to mid June.
  9. What bugs would those be? The only difference I've noticed between the future edition and the original is that the scenario selection screen in the future edition has dates of 20xx instead of 19xx.
  10. Yes I know he said that it will happen in 1940, but I think the Red Army occupying the Baltic states in 1939 is the key event in practical terms, so it should be the one modeled. The Baltic states were for all intents and purposes part of the USSR long before the 'official' annexation in 1940, which was just a meaningless formality.
  11. The USSR hasn't taken the Baltic states yet, I wonder why that is. Historically they were annexed in late 1939, why doesn't this happen in the game? Is there any compelling gameplay reason why this event needs to be delayed for a year? Also, are there any border changes involving Finland?
  12. Very interesting SuperTed. I like how the AI defended France for 3 months, but couldn't a human drag it out for much longer. What if the French put an army in Paris instead of a corps? It would be great if you could show the war map at the end of every installment, so we can get a better idea of how things ended up.
  13. British chances of holding Egypt throughout the war aren't very good are they?
  14. Thanks. Is it difficult for the British to send armies to Egypt after Italy enters the war?
  15. Immediately upon Italy entering the war I would seize Egypt from the British, and then invade Iraq for the oil at the earliest possible opportunity. I'd then work on capturing Malta and then Gibraltar.
  16. What kind of land and air forces do the British start off with in the Mediterranean compared to the Italians?
  17. Well that's bizarre, that means they get 115 MPP per turn correct? I hope that the British begin with a huge naval advantage.
  18. Do Italian cities and ports operate at full efficiency, in my opinion they shouldn't. Historically Italian war production was dismally poor, they were certainly no where near comparable to the UK or France, which is unfortunately what it looks like from the strategic map.
  19. Oh, is that because the capital city bonus is lost if a country is conquered (Riga becomes a normal city after being absorbed by the USSR)? I also suppose that the city and port of Riga would be at half efficiency. 480 is still a helluva lot though.
  20. Ooohh, that means the USSR gets 500 MPP per turn with it's original territory + Baltic states.
  21. Thank you Hubert, that makes sense. [ May 07, 2002, 06:37 PM: Message edited by: Ancient One ]
  22. It's great to have a list of unit prices, but it would be easier to understand the prices if we knew how much MPP income different countries can expect to receive. I believe someone said that Germany at the beginning of the 1939 scenario makes 120 MPPs per turn. I'd like to know how many MPP's are generated by the typical 10 strength city/capital/port/mine/oil (I've asked this question before, but never really got a straight answer). Judging from the screenshots of the Scandinavian AAR, it seems as if some neutral countries enter the war with all their cities and resources at 5, and this number slowly increases over time. Does this apply to only minor powers or majors as well? Also, is it true that some cities/resources cannot go over 5? Finally, are American resources given an extra high value since so little of it is on map?
  23. They probably need more time to playtest it now that submarine warfare has been added. We probably have to wait until the very end of May or the beginning of June for the demo to come out. [ May 06, 2002, 03:16 PM: Message edited by: Ancient One ]
  24. Well, I've been thinking about the role of Canadians in Strategic Command. I've come to the conclusion that if the intent was to have some UK units represent Canadians fighting overseas, and to have the Canadian army and corps that begin in Canada represent "home defence" forces consisting of second rate troops, then it actually makes good sense.
