  1. Let's not miss the essence of what Renaud is saying. They weren't JUST a mix of Regulars and Veterans on the WW II battlefield. OR just Green and Conscripts. -OR just Crack and Elites. Historically speaking, there was a wide range of Troop Quality on any battlefield. Since there has been (and is) such an overwhelming effort to model historical correctness in CMBO and CMBB, this should be in CMBB as well. I'd like to have that lone elite tank commander with a tank platoon of conscripts or regulars with him in Quick Battles. I'd like to have QBs that correctly model what really happened. Has anyone heard if this will be done in CMBB? Thanks.
  2. Put your nose on the bottom of your foxhole and put your butt twelve inches lower than that.
  3. Maybe that's the problem. We are all looking at him as though he is a heavy duty "scholar" when he isn't. Maybe we should just think of him as a plain ole "writer" without all the fluff. In that light, his work can then again be enjoyed. Maybe he never intended to be thought of as a "scholar" when he first started. All too often perfectly nice people attribute qualities to other people that they won't live up to for one reason or another. IMO, it may seem great to "ride the wave" of fame, but that wave can end leaving you over the rocks or the beach instead of in calm water -if one isn't careful. Forgiveness is appropriate here, IMO.
  4. One important thing to do BEFORE you game with anyone is to discuss these things. Make it a habit. Does your opponent want a historical game or do they want a fantasy football type of game where everything is good to go if you have the points for it? There are different rules at CM specialty websites that have things like rarity rules and "Fionn Kelly armor rules". Take a look at all of the links here: http://www.combatmission.com/links/lnks.asp Personally, I like the more historical games, but do delve once and a while in the other type. So, remember to talk about these things with your opponent before you play. Whether it is over the phone or by email, you will be happier if you get things all laid out -beforehand. In terms of email, go ahead and make a generic email and save it where you list all of the things that you want. That way you can cut and paste it each time you play and work out an agreement -beforehand. Your opponent may end up being impressed and grateful. The onus is on each player in my opinion to set things up for their greatest enjoyment. As to what you wrote, I personally don't think it is gamey because it wasn't discussed beforehand. What do your opponents think you are? A mind reader?
  5. M Hofbauer, I'd like to confirm your suspicions. In another thread, I posted that I made three tests of a 5 battle operation and found what you said to be perfectly true. If bad weather shows up in a battle, the FBs don't at all -ever. My idea was that bettles within an operation might not all be concurrent or on the same day so the FBs wouldn't stick around AND I agree that they're not very useful in an operation. I would rather have another platoon of tank destroyers or something that had greater longevity. Thanks for the reply.
  6. Ok, I followed Iron Chef Sakai's advice in another thread and made my test. I created a five battle Operation where the Germans with 25 Conscript JagdTigers are attacked by a single Elite Sharpshooter AND 20 Elite Fighter Bombers -"all on the map". The Germans were set up in VERY flat and VERY open terrain, while the lone Sharpshooter hid in some woods. Good weather was selected. The first test Operation had clear weather in the first turn of the first battle and the FBs were obviously present throughout it. The following three battles with clear weather had no sign of the FBs at all. The last battle was overcast, so no FBs. My other two test Operations had bad weather in the first battle and no FBs showed up for any of the clear weather battles that came after it. Even though one Operation had it's remaining four battles -all with clear weather. The result of my tests show that Fighter Bombers do not hang around for any battle in an Operation other than the one they are scheduled to be in -period. It makes sense since each battle in an operation could be on different days as opposed to being all on the same day. [ February 27, 2002, 09:02 PM: Message edited by: Le Tondu ]
  7. Um, doesn't anyone know? I did do a search -even the archives. I just don't want to overload the Operation with too many FBs. That's all.
  8. If I set up an Operation where a player has Fighter Bombers in the first battle of an Operation, AND the weather turns out to be overcast in it(no-show for FBs), will they show up in the next and subsequent battle(s) if the skies are clear for them? I hope this makes sense. Thanks.
  9. Dave, Don't mind the silence. CM:BB is not out yet. It is however being anxiously desired. Hang in there. We all are. I HIGHLY recommend CM:BO if you don't already have it. By playing CM:BO, you will get a LOT of experience that can only help you.
