  1. I don't agree completely. I mean I do think that Hubert has handled these things well, he has made a very historically accurate game. Unfortunatly for Head2Head players, "historically accurate" means the Allies have an advantage. These guidelines can be used to eliminate some gamey characteristics and balance the game. Gorski, out of curiosity, who seemed to be winning your games, Axis or Allied?
  2. SuperTed, great thought! Once the game is released, (and I have a feeling it might be soon), we can compile a set of guidlines that players can follow if they wish. (OK, I know this is nothing new.) What is new is that I can post these guidelines on my site in black and white for all to see. Maybe even a SC ladder?
  3. I just saw this, And yes, I think that the Stratecic Command HeadQuarters Website just might be "along the same lines as this game" BTW, I'm looking into chatroom, anyone have any experience with them?
  4. Hubert, The game is great and your work is both highly anticipated and appreciated. It's just too bad that some vermin must attempt to ruin things for others. It is bad enough that he screwed with the game, but now we all have to wait a little longer because of this moron. ------------------------------------------------- In the meantime, I came up with a game here called "Otto's crack the enigma code" game. It works like this, you read the encoded message and then try to figure out what it actually says. Here we go: 1) Hags is a complete a55h01e 2) F**K you Hags anyone break it?
  5. btw, all mods available from my site 'will be usable in the final version'.
  6. Gentlemen, I have added the file to the site, it is is the "Graphics Mods" section. Enjoy!
  7. I'm not sure, but I think it's something like this... Units are automatically assigned to HQs based on need. If a unit is in a city it likely won't take supply from an hq as it will have good supply already. HQ's can only supply up to 5 units. This is important especially if you are conducting amphibious assaults. And speaking of Amphibious invasions, HQ's draw some supply from cities. This means that in you land troops on hostile soil, but don't have control of a city, supply will be limited, (a max of 7 I think). However, once you take a city, your HQ can supply units up to their healthy maximums. [ June 25, 2002, 09:57 AM: Message edited by: Otto ]
  8. Can I be that german leader guy with the tiny mustache that does all the yelling and arm flapping? I think he would be cool...
  9. I just want to know if Hubert can make a few of these changes before the final release of the game: 1) Each nation has it's own language, all the buttons, commands and feedback for each nation should be in the native language of that country. Of course you will have to learn that language to play that nation, but this is WAY more realistic. 2) Real-time, I don't like this turn based stuff, real war happens in real time, I want a game that will take 5 years to play. 3) No more clicking, I want some sort of device that reads my brainwaves and can tell what I want, clicking sucks! 4) If I ever have any trouble witht the game I want Hubert to come to my house and give tech-support. If neccesary, I would like my own personal tailor made version of StratComm. You could call it Strategic Command: European Theater; Otto Platinum Edition. Let me know...
  10. Aww Shucks!! (Otto turns red, peers toward the ground, clasps his hands behind his back and grinds his toe into the ground). Thanks BB, I appreciate the plug. [ June 24, 2002, 08:06 AM: Message edited by: Otto ]
  11. This is not a mod issue, but I just wanted everyone to know that SuperTed was nice enough to allow me to post his great AAR's on my site. If you haven't seen them yet, they are a great description of an ongoing game from an experienced Beta Tester. Check 'em out at the link below, great work SuperTed!!
  12. Something tells me you won't have to wait *that* long.
  13. Forgive my ignorance BB, what does "IIRC" mean? I'm not familiaer with this shorthand.
  14. He din't actually say French, he was talking about thos unruly Frenck people, that's completely different!
  15. If you haven't done this already, declare war on the low countries, (Belgium, Netherlands & Luxembourg), and invade through the north, just like it was done in '40. With multiple air strikes, you should be able to take the low countries in one turn, then, turn your forces south into France and behind the maginot line. Ignore the mainot line, juist go for Paris. Let us know how it does!!
  16. Valadictum, not that I know of, but who knows?
  17. Straha, grimlord, I think we are all saying essentially the same things, but with a topic as vast as the roman empire, you can only cover a little portion in a Bulletin Board post. You guys are absolutely right though, "Imperial Overstretch" was the culprit as far the the fall of the Roman Empire. Hey, wait a minute, isn't this a WWII thread?!?!
  18. Yeah, I can remember in my history books the stories of precarious Roman Empire, attempting to hold on to their minor territorial possesions, which was merely the entire known world at the time, for a meagre 500 years. I also remember reading that the fall of the Roman empire was due to these Barbarians who wouldn't stay behind their damn wall! [ June 20, 2002, 04:14 PM: Message edited by: Otto ]
  19. Yes, this was to Rome as Stalingrad was to the Third Reich.
  20. There is no excuse for failure in war, but their leadership was pitiful. Given the right commanders they did well, ie, the Italian Ariete amrored division, (trained in Germany), was a critical part of Rommel's Afrika Korps. Also this all depends on historical timing. If you were to ask the enemies of Rome about the fighting abilities of the italians, we know what kind of answers we would get. We would get the same answers if we spoke to the enemies of Napoleon's French soldiers. Even though they lost, World War Two was the time of the Germans. Every people have their day, but the ones in recent history get a bad rap. I'll bet Roman centurions joked about the poor quality of the Germanic Barbarians. Probaly something like this: Q: Why are their so many trees in the Black Forest? A: Romans like to rest in the shade. just a thought
  21. That, and Hurryin' Heinz Guderian.</font>
  22. <rant response> I agree with you vM. Actually, on the whole, French soldiers themselves performed very well in the Second World War. We all know the French can Fight, just look at Napoleon. It was the ineptitutde of the French commanders that lead to thier sorry defeat. </rant response>
  23. I just looked at the sprites, I have to admit, they are not very different from Sgt Eagle's. Same colours, almost identical symbols, did you guys work on this together? Just curious...
