Ok great Hubert

Could be a system error or corrupt executable. I would suggest either running system tools or trying to uninstall and reinstall SC to see if it helps. Hope this helps, Hubert
-
Agreed that is an error in the manual, I believe the rules were changed during development in the game and not corrected for the manual. As for the number of Free French units Waltero saw looks like a lucky or perhaps unlucky dice roll depending on how you look at things. (Transports are included in the 20% possibility for Free French conversion) Now if the AI performed the amphibious assault great! If it was a human player then it might have just been part of their exploitive strategy. Hubert

Some intelligent discussion here but definitly beyond the scope of SC, moving to the General Forums... Thanks, Hubert

Can't help much in that department unfortunatly, SC like all games here at Battlefront are really more or less labour of loves that are helped tremendously from the work of volunteer beta testers. Not much financial reward in volunteerism but often the opportunity to test and "have some say" with games such as these can be enough reward in and of itself. This is definitly not to say that there aren't paid positions for testing, as I am sure Rambo's tips will help, just that I don't know of any at the moment. Good luck! Hubert

Normally I do "test" my assumpsions. But in this Case TERIF assured me that HE tested this. And since his results Equated to my Obsevances I concur unless HUBERT tells me he is positive it is otherwise, Which is to say that he checked the calc. Which obviousley we are unable to do. </font>

Kurt88's Forum on Unified Economic and Diplomatic Functions
Hubert Cater replied to JerseyJohn's topic in Strategic Command 1
Kurt Thanks for the input and thread idea, just to let you know I have found some of the ideas presented here very interesting and have bookmarked this thread for future reference, but as you might guess it is still difficult for me to say one way or the other what will be included or not. As I've mentioned before the more ideas the better, and this is a good thing since some of these have been really great. Hubert -

Still Carrier vs Air Interception flaw left in 1.06 patch.

Free games.... hmmm...., but a Civil war might be interesting to do, although I would have to read up on my Civil War history quite a bit. Which side won again? Hubert -

Hubert Cater replied to zappsweden's topic in Strategic Command 1
Zappsweden, I'm very impressed with the time you have taken on many occasions to identify some of the remaining items left in the game and do appreciate it. I've taken note of this one as well and will definitly fix it if another patch is released, although honestly at the moment this is still not likely. Either way, for the time being it was probably a good idea to make this issue general knowledge to put everyone on the same page. Thanks! Hubert -
Read through this thread a bit and just wanted to say thanks for the good word guys! Hubert

Glad to hear you are enjoying the game and have already come up with a wishlist. While this is not specifically a tech support issue all ideas are welcome and I will move it to the SC General Discussion Forum so that others can add/comment to your list. Hubert

The definite reason as to why I did not include this behaviour in the surrender of a country currently escapes me, but I believe it was to give other friendly countries a chance to maintain possession and not have them automatically switch to sides once a country surrenders. In this case when Italy surrendered, it gives Germany the chance to reoccupy Denmark with its own forces without Denmark automatically switching to the Allies. I agree though that if a German unit was in Copenhagen an automatic switch to German control would have been more intuitive. Hubert [ February 12, 2003, 11:03 AM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]

Yes Zap has had some very consistent analysis of the game recently and my hat is off to him for this. I agree with Rambo (from another recent post) that Zapsweden would make a great beta tester for future work if he is interested, although $30/h is definitly out of my budget . I see the problem you've encountered, I'll make a note of it and if there is another patch (although at the moment not likely) it will be included, no promises just yet but thanks for pointing it out. Display wacked out after SC crashed
Hubert Cater replied to cruzzer's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
Sounds like a system error with respect to your Dx7 DLL not functioning properly. Perhaps a system check with some system utilities may help, even running the DirectX diagnostic utility Dxdiag.exe might help. Hubert -
An HQ has to be at least within 10 hexes of a 10 supply value city or other HQ to be at its maximum supply giving value, so the supply overrunning can occur if you drive too far east too quickly. In this case units may be drawing supply from either a low valued city or a low supply giving HQ. So when this happens it is sometimes best to wait a bit for the recently captured Soviet city to rebuild to its max = 5 or to chain another HQ in your supply lines to get a higher max. Hubert
-
The idea with the HQ was to have it function partially as a supply wagon on top of the standard leadership attachment for units under it's command. Thus you can gain supply from a city as well as an HQ. Units that are attached to an HQ do have the possibility of a readiness above 100% depending on the experience of the HQ, and if they are in good supply etc. Basically the experience of the HQ is trickled down to units under it's command as a 'combat morale bonus'. There is no inherent benefit setup by keeping units stationary in terms of readiness, but entrenchment can go up etc., although in situations on the eastern front where as the Germans advance and capture Soviet cities there could be a situation where the Axis overrun their supply. In this case you may find yourself better off waiting for the value of the recently captured city to build up from 0, or to position an HQ so that it max's its supply from another location in turn giving your units greater supply than it would acheive from the recently captured city. So in this case there would definitly be a benefit as Bill suggested from sitting tight to increase readiness before continuing forward. Not sure if this satisfies the idea of stockpiles entirely, but just wanted to expand on the functionality of HQ's. Hubert

The saved games should remain intact as new directories will not be removed by the uninstaller, but you might want to save a copy just in case Hubert -
Sound Files Corrupted
Hubert Cater replied to Steve C's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
Even though you have DirectX 8 it will include all previous versions of DirectX as well. SC was written to take advantage of DirectX 7 so this may explain some of the DirectX 7 error messages you are getting but I would probably suggest uninstalling SC and then reinstalling from CD. Sounds as though perhaps some of your files or even the executable has become corrupted. Hope this helps, Hubert [ February 07, 2003, 05:56 PM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ] -
Dial up modem should work fine, although as expected each sent move and end of turn data transfer will be a bit slower. Hubert

SC: National Characteristics
Hubert Cater replied to Shaka of Carthage's topic in Strategic Command 1
Shaka & Jersey Thanks, and just in case the last post did come across as slightly sleep deprived , I was of course just making excuses Either way, if I include any of the recent ideas, some of you are going to be REALLY sorry. If you thought it was addictive now, just wait until.... Hubert [ February 05, 2003, 10:28 AM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]
