  1. National Geographic did a whole section on hedge rows of France... Sorry can’t remember the date.... will try to look through my old mags to find it. Anyway there was a movement to preserve some of them. And a few people that still did maintain them for a living. After reading this I realized just how much of a obstacle they were. BnickB
  2. The last ten years or so , ran out of other stuff to read (never did like fiction all that much). CMBO did get me more into it....By the by am reading a couple of good ones getting ready for CMAK : Desert Rats at War, by George Forty..... tons of pics , great shots of a 6 pounder and a 2 pounder on the back of trucks ready to fire. And the Collins Atlas of the Second World War, lots of good info and maps..... BnickB
  3. How about one of the key passes in the Gothic line.... The Germans still had a bit of fight in them even at this point in the war... ps: I like the Malta Idea BnickB
  4. Well my Idea is that level one ( the closest to the fighting ) would be just like CMBB , and this would be where most of the game would be played..........then one could move to level two in the game , battalion in size (not sure about the graphic look), then division size moves ( just a normal card looking chit) then a real big map with army’s type icons maybe some feed back windows to do with supply and logistics stuff. That way we could have our cake and eat it to.............. Just a thought BnickB
  5. Ok I love playing CM and do daily, but here is just a idea , for the next gen CM 2 . What I would love to see in the game is the ability to play on one of 4 levels of detail ; 1 squad based play , 2 battalion based ,3 division based ,the finally army’s based . Let me see if I can put this so it makes some science. In Combat Mission most of the movement is squad based and in a game like strategic command we are talking whole army’s and divisions. It would be fun to be able to move up or down the scale from , micro management to the big picture type play. So for instance the battle for Normandy (I can’t remember the total of divisions involved but it was a bunch). Anyway in the big picture play you could move parts of or whole armies around . Then if the fighting gets tough in one area you could drop down a level or 2 and do some micro management. For all or a part of a battle and leave your AI commanders to keep things going on the other levels. Well I know probably can’t be done it was just a thought. Something to do as I wait for CMAK
  6. I still play the Sid Meiers civil war collection... but only on my back up puter as I can't get it to run with XP. BNB
  7. reinald and all who might poo poo this product. So let me get this straight.....I am going to buy CMAK and play this game for months on end , Ok maybe years , and we are talking almost every day.... And I should be upset because they are charging me $40.00 + what ever.... Lets see last time I went out to ONE movie and a bite to eat $20.00 + And one more thing , when some one said they are going to do this right , new armor calculations, troop types , ground conditions , acutely worked into the game and on target.........I wouldn’t doubt it. After playing CMBO and CBBB I expect it will be a different game but feel the same..... just as good , just as fun. As far as the game engine goes “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” Lastly.. Just read THE TRAIL OF THE FOX by David Irving......... Its funny I really liked it but , it was kind of like seeing a well known painting like the Mona Lisa , last super , etc.... from the standing behind the subject , you know from the other side. BNB
  8. Hi What I have done in the past is make a file (in my docs) call it (anything you want) , then copy the whole CD to the file. Then install from the copied file. That has worked for me some times.... also........ That (lame) .mov file has been a problem for me before so try (if the above idea dose not work) try installing again using the medium size install ( this is CMBO right ? ) this does not install the Quick time .mov file, and this has also worked for me.... Nick
  9. Hi One and all I have been trying to set up a CMAK scenario Called The Gothic Line. (In Northern Italy) With the CMBB editor, I think I have done ok with the Map (let me know if you want a copy) , the date is August 29 th 1944 , the place is Montecchio just north of the Foglia river. The First Canadian corps makes a all out assault on the “Green line” as the Germans called it , against the 76 th Panzer corps. I found a lot of info for this battle from the book “The Gothic Line" By Douglas Orgill.........Anyone else out there getting ready for CMAK. I Hope I will be able to just change the Ruskys to the Brits... Hay it could work.... BnickB [ July 27, 2003, 03:01 AM: Message edited by: bobnickbob ]
  10. Hi Redwolf If you care to go to the http://www.pcgamereview.com/ web site you will see; G I Combat rated a "Game play: 3.63" CMBO rated a "Game play: 4.91" So you see that if you were a real gamer , this would be a web site that you might go to , if you wanted to find out the real scoop , as it were. So if you will pardon the rest of us average mortals , some of us would like to see the game as good as CMBO prosper...... BnickB
  11. The one I have played the most is “ Chance Encounter” maybe it isn’t the most intense but just real well balanced , must of played it 50 times over the past 3 years..... By the by , question for the people that picked up the new release , tell us about some of the new scenarios , a list would be real nice..... Thanks BnickB
  12. I have noticed wile I was at the http://www.pcgamereview.com/ Web site they have the new retail release of CMBO in the strategy section , and no one has reviewed it yet , although the original release is there , I think under simulations. ( rated at 4.98 with 47 reviews) anyway come on guys maybe some one out would have time to do a good review.........as I know a lot of gamers check this site before they buy.... BnickB
  13. Hi , I was wondering if the newbie from Eureka CA that picked up a copy of CMBO after hearing me tell the guy behind the counter about the best war game I have ever played , when I said after 3 years it is still on my hard drive and played from time to time . He came over and asked “what is the name of that game?” Of corse at this point I added a few glowing comments about the game as we walked to were it was placeed on the a shelf , then tried to mellow out abit as I didn’t want him to think I was a total nut . Anyway the point is if you (or any newbie) want to play a few E-mail games I’m up for it . Download or make up a small battle then drop me a line at ndwalk95521@yahoo.com Hay life is to short not to have some fun........ BnickB
  14. I found if I move a few more troops to the left side in the set up part of the game it helps as you can use them for a counter atack toward the end of the game...and the two tanks I have them on the road and as close to the little rise as possible. Then on you first move bring the tanks just over the rise with the “u” command that way there ready for anything , and run you troops on the right toward the flag , Iv’e used the run and hide with some success . Anyway to win you don’t need to do much but protect the flag. Well maybe it will help........ Bnickb
  15. Been playing more CMBO than CMBB also been having a lot of fun with Morrowind , reloaded sim city 3000 Unlimited and took it for a spin last week. Wish I had more time ,a lot of good games out there. By the way a little PR for BFC was found on this web site a few days ago, http://www.gonegold.com/ they wrote about getting a new CMBB strategy manual sent to them (at no charge) when the New and Updated one came out, just blew them away.......... Can’t wait for CMAK BnickB
  16. Apache you have a point I have been playing CMBO more than CMBB and will get CMAK as soon as pos. Because it is the area my dad and his bro fought in.. Just seems it has more meaning to me..... Dad was with the 5th army so he was in No Africa and Italy then they shipped his group north I think just after the bulge. Anyway this is going to be a interesting game to play as it puts one in the place were the US got its feet wet ,So to speak........ BnickB
  17. This is great , been telling people about this game for years .....but you know ........buy on line .........O-my. So now I can say go down to the mall and GET IT............. And I will......... Although I have CMBB I still play CMBO at least twice a month................. Thank you BnickB
  18. If you ask nice maybe some one that has already downloaded the euro patches, will burn them to a disc for you ,and mail them to you ... There are allot of great gamers that read this board.... BnickB
  19. So,since CMAK is simply a rework of CMBB engine, will this be addressed in CMAK?If not,im screwed, and so is BTS/BFC if they want my money.I will not buy a different graphic card just to play it,and of course wont buy CMAK. [EDITED to ensure this get answered] [/QB] Hi nevermind Here is the way I got CMBB And CMBO to run just fine , On our new system running WIN XP and the latest drivers..... I had also ran into hardware and software problems....... I had an old drive on the shelf , with enough room for a OS and the the two games I MUST have ! ......plugged that into my system....(After I had reformatted the drive )........loaded Win ME then Loaded the drivers I knew would work with these games......I think version Nivdia 28.32 ... (you can still get the 28.xx drivers out on the net)....then CMBB And CMBO ........so now my wife can run her Win XP with all the Extras she likes... And by hitting the Delete Key as I power up the system to get to the bios , I can choose the hard drive I want to boot from , mine or hers ( I know the BIOS seems kind of scary to some , but remember it is just a tool) lots of info out on the net about dual boot systems. So even though I have a new system I can still play all the old games I love............. you can always e mail me if you have a question. ndwalk95521@yahoo.com bobnickbob

  21. Yes Yes Yes This is the game I have been waiting for................................. AND CRETE TOO OK , I am sure I have died and gone to some nice place , were all your dreams come true!! Many thanks BnickB
  22. Thanks Schrullenhaft Sorry to not give more info. I am running a dual boot XP/ME system. as I found CMBB runs better for me with Win ME..... (has to do with my MB)..... Also I have the 30.82 as well as 28.32 on my backup disc but my friends system won’t read my disc (I know he needs the UDF drivers which are also on my back up) , but he has a cable connection so I had hoped to find a site that had the older drivers so he could download them. He has been over here and played a hot seat game and was hooked . So do you think they can figure out this problem with the 40.xx drivers ? Anyway thanks once again this is such a wonderful board.. 23. any body have a link to the 30.82 nvidia drivers . there site only has 40.++ drivers
  24. A few years ago when they put the CMBO demo on the pcgamer demo disc, they also had a great write up about the game in the mag. After playing the demo and reading the review I just had to buy the game, I thought the package would help sell it to some of my friends. I guess most of them are into consoles or just can’t find the time to play “war games” It is sad to see them ignore one of the best games ever made. You know it‘s the old saw, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make the drink it....... bnickb
  25. Hi one and all Does anyone know ??? If the demo of CMBB going to be on PCgamer or another monthly publications demo disc soon. If so , I will buy a few extra copys for my friends..... bnickb
