BFC Did not make any improvments in CMBB

Sweet! Actually I have a buddy in Cincy who has an old MP40 in his closet. Very cool looking weapon. -Sarge -
Spice things up with CMBO screenshots
Sarge Saunders replied to Sarge Saunders's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Unmodded! Heck no. I know it is hard to tell but in this picture alone there are building mods, tree mods, those sweet SS uniform mods, and IIRC even the cromwell is modded (hence the start on the back). So jeest go on back an entertain Lord Vader with your whimsical rantings! Sheesh. Just because a guy doesn't run at the BEST possible resolution does not mean unmodded... -Sarge -
Spice things up with CMBO screenshots

Pardon the lack of perfection in these screens. Since a) these images were resized, sharpened and compressed and my color depth on my noteboook is not the greatest. The enemy had but one squad supporting and can be found off the image to your left. I came on him fast! My opponent is actually one of the best CM players around, but I have assault odds and everywhere there is a nearly 2 to 1 axis infantry advantage. -Sarge P.S. this is actually removed somewhat from where the "real" battle is raging toward the hill in the distance and to your right. There we have two battalions pitted against each other and giving everything they have! [ September 07, 2002, 02:51 PM: Message edited by: Sarge Saunders ] -
Things are pretty slow in this forum so I thought I would post some screenies of a current QB. Shades of CMBB as I close assault an allied tank. Moving out to get on all sides....charging through MG fire (don't count on this working in CMBB). A squad gets off a panzerfaust. It hangs in midair. Will it be a hit!? A very near miss. Aarrgh!! Aha, This squad has a better, side shot. His round hangs in midair too but how could that faust miss?? It hits! Gut. Discuss amongst yourselves.... -Sarge

A Cool New Feature

I like the shockwave idea. It looks good in your preview. However, It did not seem to work for me. Once I renamed the files and copied them to the BMP directory all I got was a strange square shape for your modded frames. In fact, I could not open the BMP files in an image editor since it considered them invalid bitmap files. Could something have gone wrong when you saved them? I really, really, really want to try them out. Can you send them to me in some other format such as TIFF or PNG. I can convert them (if I can open them) and give it a try. My e-mail is in my profile. Kudos for the effort. If you (or someone else) can accomplish a nice mod for the explosions then all the explosion gripes will be solved! -Sarge [ September 05, 2002, 02:24 PM: Message edited by: Sarge Saunders ]

Found something new today in CMBB. Now, you can click on a movement path and it will select that unit. Very useful! Found it by accident but I shall use it plenty. Thanks BFC! -Sarge

Glad to hear about the tracers. The poll was only out of pure curiosity. I am not naïve enough to think BFC made their decisions based on a poll. BTW, I also know that the blast spheres created some programming bugs with certain video cards....or so I have heard. -Sarge -

I am sure you are right about that. This is why it is so natural for the public to comment on the demo. The beta group is very tiny by comparison to the overall "core" CM audience. Plus it is likely that the beta testers where focused on other aspects.... I don't think it would be safe (business-wise) for a software company to assume that "since the beta testers liked XYZ that the general audience will or will not like it". -Sarge [ September 04, 2002, 02:16 PM: Message edited by: Sarge Saunders ] -

Ditto. Keep it civil. Else I shall re-title the thread "Britney Spears Nude Photos" to ensure a speedy lock-up. -Sarge -

True, true. Not being a programmer, I have no idea how long something like that would take.</font> -
Of Shockwave and Tracers...and Realism
Sarge Saunders replied to Sarge Saunders's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Agreed. I disliked the house explosions and the gun muzzle bubbles. Yes, I would like an option for larger tracers and gun rounds. *nod* Yes. No doubt! Yes it does. But they can with an option for large or small tracers, etc. -Sarge -
Honestly, I think the problems with shockwaves, tracers, and tank rounds is about how much harder it is to see what is going on at views 3 and above. This is clearly what is driving these questions all over this forum. We (note: not I) as a collective ( ) have become used to hovering around at level 3 or 4 in CMBO to have our "god-like" view of the action. Saying: "Oh, some big HE bubbles!...looks like trouble over on that hill...." I will wait for the final game to see what the explosions look like and I am sure that mods will come along. Yet, I don't enjoy a game that plays best at level 1 and 2. Sort of forces Frankos Real Combat rules or somefink just to be able to see what is happening. Most people know that views 1 and 2 is best to get a feel for terrain contours and such but I rarely view action in TCP matches from those views. PBEM is a mix. I tend to view the whole movie from level 7 or 8 or 3 and 4, then go down the ground level to see detailed action in key areas. (P.S. I am enoying the new views and camera zoom settings.) But even after playing CMBB for a bit, I am still having trouble seeing the "shooting" at level 3 or 4 Almost everyone for the current graphics has cited realism. No doubt about that claim. But, could visual realism be a detriment to playability? Could it? -Sarge

Planned artillery strikes
Sarge Saunders replied to Kwacker's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I thought it was odd that as a defender I could call these pre-planned barrages. TRPs as defender I can understand but surely only the attacker knows when to call a prep barrage!? -Sarge -
Yes. And I have always heard it called "Night on Bald Mountain".
