1. I would like to throw my horned hat in the ring as well. Count me in.
2. I would very much like to play this, would you please send it along to me as well? Also, would you recommend it for a pbem opponent? I have a seasoned friend/opponent who's looking to test his attack skills on me.
3.
quote:
Originally posted by Colonel_Deadmarsh: I'm sure this is possible but I'll ask anyway since it seems risky to try... Can you hide a tank in/behind some trees in the deploy where it has long lines of LOS across the map and yet can't be seen by the enemy because it's concealed? Does anyone set up their tanks like this in the middle of the open with only concealment to protect themselves and yet allowing you to shoot at the first armored target it sees without having to move the unit into view?

There is a simple logical error in this statement, a hidden unit will NOT shoot at first sight in the first place. As far as gameyness goes, in my book hiding any unit at any time is OK. This command works not just for amush situations but also for 1) consevsation of ammo, 2) efforts to confuse the enemy, 3) and general concealment to avoid an FO's eye. Does the hide command have any affect on planes? This I do not know.
4. Perhaps the seemingly unfair price differences are intended to represent the historic supply, manufacturing and delivery conditions for the respective sides. For example a Jumbo built in the US would need to be safely brought across the Atlantic- a task that would require significant time and resources, far greater than their Axis counterparts. The price inequities may be perfectly "fair" given the realities of WW2.
5. Agreed. At 83 points, the Hetzer is a deal hard to pass up, or ignore when playing against the Axis. I've tried a couple of different situations in test mode. The best way is to simply provide a multiple of targets while flanking this beast. If that means running Steward's right up it to its face, then its best to provide some savoury targets in another direction.
6. Well, that would be good information for those using British units. I was hoping for some insight from the American medium armour perspective. Running some far-from-scientific experiments of my own, when faced with a Hetzer tow-to-tow, nothing (American) less than the jumbo is worth a damn, ruling out flanking. I just watched the 75 mm gun ricochet 3 times in a row off the Hetzer hull AT 25 METERS!!!! Tank killers are great, given first shot or good distance. Any thoughts on this?
7. That's what I thought. If that is the case, then is that reinforcement pull-down window in the purchase screen simply a sixth tow?
8. I'm curious what medium American tank test best against a Hetzer, tow to tow. I would appreciate any feedback.
9. So, in the upper right corner of the unit purchase screen, there appears to be the option of assigning reinforcement units, but that option(s) is always greyed out. So when does that become an option?
10. This, I swear, is my last suggestion: To really make that bevelled edge pop (that's desiger talk) then darken the top bevelled edge in relation to the two side bevels. If your light source is above, like say- the sun, then the top bevelled edge would be the most in shadow. But that's all mouse nuts (as a former design boss used to tell me). It looks really good. Thanks for sharing.
11. right on! One more thing, the bevelled edge along the bottom edge of the gun slit should be highlighted in contrast to the bevelled edges along the sides and top.
12. You really nailed that door. Where they really wood? After all that work a wood door?! Is there a way for the concrete to get scarred over time? That would be nice. I'd to at least get the satisfaction that I was knocking the paint off sometimes.
13. To add my two pesos, I think that a place in San Francisco may be the best location. I may have a place in mind if no one else does. I'm over in Oakland myself, so if there's a bigger move to having it east bay, I'm cool w/ dat' too.
14. I guess the point to all this is that Rommel22 needs a fake ID. Seriously though, beer is needed, as is a close Bart station!
15. Still sounds a bit chancy to me- stacking the game on top of the emulator, on top of the operating system, w/ a G3. -Good Luck I'm in a same boat, I've got an upgraded G3 w/ a new video card. The game does run well as is but I'm not able to use a bunch of those mods. PS Drop a note, on how it well it works. PS
16. just a side note; if you don't have a G3 or higher, don't bother... Upgrade!
17. My experiments have shown thus: Dead pillboxes are semi-passable or "fudge-able" if I may. They're a bit like houses in that way. A stretch of bridge could not be blocked by a single p box. The vehicles can squeeze through/pass a side. They can not go through the center though. So if you created a slalom of p boxes - you are an ass. As I think about there are two better approaches: 1) Sacrifice for blockage; buy a cheap truck or 1/2 track, or better yet... 2) Stack the bridge w/ dead enemy vehicles- like I discovered that the hard way in a personal favorite: All or Nothing!
18. I haven't checked yet, but would a ko'd concrete p box stop or slow traffic? That's the gamey part to me. Just leave -t out there let it get ko'd an train a bunch of AT's keyholed to that position. I think that its pretty damn gamey, but on principal I enjoy creative use of ones assets, this is after all a game.
19. Please rate the "gameyness" of putting a concrete pillbox on a bridge right in the middle of river, oh yeah at night! I know, I know thats pretty obnoxious. But still, what a fun surprise for a night game. I could even stack several along the expanse. So 1 through 10 on "gamyness" ....
20. Lay it on me. DO you want a review from a specific side?
21. Are there any downloadable operations that you would recommend that take place on "large" or smaller maps?
22. OK, here's some pointers for ya. 1) Buy headphones, but only cover one ear at all times, preferably the ear facing away from the door, that way she/he will not see that you are being covert. (I recommend the noise cancellation coconuts made by Bose- noise/voice/complaint cancellation combined with great stereo sound). 2) With macs at least you can at any time hit escape to return to desktop. Remember to put an important looking document on the desktop, perhaps highlight a passage for full effect! Thus with good reflexes, you can be balancing your checkbook whenever the she/he enters the room. 23. Yeah, it's not a TANK, perhaps more like tank-lite. Anyway, if the goal is to seek and destroy German armor and you had to use American armor, then perhaps 6 Jacksons as opposed to 4 Shermans may be a interesting choice. I am going no further this hypothetical situation, its just for consideration.
24. So I was scanning through the topic, "How do you as the Americans," and noticed little mention of the Jackson anti-tank tank. If you start with the basic understanding that as Allied, one should generally avoid tank shoot-outs with the Germans, then the Jackson with a larger gun, decent front arour and 2/3's cost of a sherman makes it a good deal. Is there something here I'm missing?
