  1. You can also use "dropzip" to zip files for PC users. Stuffit Expander will recognise and unzip files. They are all shareware files. Cheers Chee-Yan
  2. One work around which I use on a Mac is via a shareware control panel called USB Overdrive. It allows me to map my five button scroll mouse to keyboard equivalents. this allows my scroll whell to change view elevations by scrolling up or down (euivalent to + and - on the number keypad) while my 4th and 5th buttons is zoom up and zoom down ([ and ] respectively on the keyboard). Click scroll is angle camera up and camera down. Once you use the scroll wheel to change view elevation, you will never want to go back to any other way because I can literally move around my camera just with my mouse hand and my other hand is used to give orders via keyboard (run, move, hunt, advance, etc). The only thing is that I have never found an equivalent driver/control panel setting for Windows. (If someone knows how this can be done on the Windows please let me know). Therefore, I play all my CM on a Mac even thought I have a PC and a Mac and all versions of CM for both systems. Cheers Chee-Yan
  3. Thanks for tryng to fit me in but alas it will have to be the next time. In terms of board gaming, there are two other regular board game groups I go to. Gamers@ Dockers at the NAB building at Docklands every thursday night Website is http://www.gamersatdockers.com/ The Victorian Diplomacy club meets every 3rd Sat from Feb to Nov at the Melbourne Uni Union House 2nd floor from noon to 6 pm Both clubs are free to join. Cheers and a Happy New Year to all Chee-Yan
  4. Hi Guys Would love to make it too but will be away from 20th Jan to Feb 3rd. Have a drink for me if the get together is on the 27th. If at a later date, will definitely try to make it. Happy new year to all Cheers Chee-Yan
  5. Admiral Keth I would like to add to the many thanks and appreciation for your wonderfully hard work and providing such a site like the Scenario Depot. It has been a source of many a pleasurable scenario for many of us and also a way to share our own creations. I do hope it will be resurrected in some way or another. Cheers Chee-Yan
  6. Thanks very much all. I will check out Clickymouse and Mouseware. Cheers Chee-Yan
  7. Hi all I play CM I, II and III on a Mac Powerbook dual boot 1Gz with a 5 button scroll wheel mouse. There is a shareware control panel called USB Overdrive which allows one to configure and define all mouse buttons and wheel scroll actions. For CM, Scroll up is + on the number pad and scroll down is - on the number pad (not the equivalent in the row of numbers above the letters on the main keyboard). what this does is it allows me to change elevation view by just scrolling up or down. It is quick, fast, intuitive very quickly and all only using the mouse with one hand. I have also configured two other buttons as [ and ] which allows zoom up and zoom down. Rt click is shift click which brings up the menu...in fact you can configure in whatever way you want depending on your gaming style and preferences. It can be set up with different configurations for different applications so the mouse buttons can change for different games and apps. It is one of the few shareware progams that is definitely worth the shareware fee ! What I want to know is...is there an equivalent driver for the mouse in the PC world ie, Windows XP pro. Most drivers I have checked have not allowed that degree of configuration. I have now also a PC for work which I can also play CM on but I am finding it a bit "clunky" changing view elevations after being so used to my Mac. Cheers Chee-Yan
  8. Good Question ! I was about to ask that myself. I don't know Napier Hotel but is there a prominent corner or spot we decide on to meet? Cheers
  9. I can do either 26th or 28th although 28th is slightly better for me Cheers Chee-Yan
  10. Thanks guys, If the 27th is the happening day, count me in for dinner as well. It will be fun and interesting to put some faces to the names on the forum. Cheers Chee-Yan
  11. Any possibility of postponing by a week? I am away in Perth for work and will only return on the 25th. Cheers Chee-Yan
  12. It is true that the TiBook 1 Gz will play all the CM series, but you need a patch for the Radeon card (search this forum for link or get it from Matt), otherwise, you get a psychaedelic screen. Despite the patch, smoke is still low res and non transparent. The TiBook 800 Mz, I believe will display full high res smoke and proper graphics without any patch. Both should play the game well without significant difference as they both have enough computing grunt. It will depend on whether you plan to use the computer for other uses. My personal suggestion is the 800 Mz if you plan to get one for purely gaming purposes. I am looking for one myself if anyone has one for sale. Cheers Chee-Yan
  13. 1 GHz Ti Powerbook with 1 Gb RAM and 64Mb ATI Radeon 9000 I have installed the hotfix and have noticed no significant difference from the Beta realease in that it has fixed the psychaedelic colours but not the "low res" solid smoke graphics. One thing I did notice is that the release notes say that the hotfix consists of ATI 8500 3D Accelerator 7.0.9 OpenGLRendererATI 1.3.5 After insatllation, I checked and I found the following ATI 8500 3D Accelerator 7.0.9 OpenGLRendererATI 1.3.4 So is there a mistake in the release notes or in the installer? Cheers Chee-Yan
  14. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Sydney, Australia to Toronto, Canada to finally Melbourne, Australia
  15. Try the following suggestion. 1) Quit CMBB first. 2) Remove CMBB pref in Pref folder in the System Folder 3) Make sure the screen resoultion is set for 1024 x 768 4) Then start up the game again. 5) The game should then use the screen resolution as set. Hope that helps. Cheers
  16. I foumd mine only after installing the game. I believe it is compressed with the rest of the game.
  17. Good News !! It works on my 1 Mhz G4 TiBook with Radeon 9000 card. The graphics are now normal and playable. The only downside is smoke and dust looks low res and even my G3 400Mhz Pbook with 8 Mb VRAM has much better smoke/dust graphics. I have tested it on CMAK and CMBB but not CMBO yet. Specs 1 GHz G4 dualboot Ti PB 15" monitor 1Gb RAM Radeon 9000 card with 64Mb VRAM Drive Partition 40G OSX 10.2.6/OS9.2 20G OS 9.2 where CMBO/CMBB/CMAK resides I have had some problem which may be unrelated to the game and new driver in that when I try to reboot back to OSX, myn computer has trouble mounting my OSX drive. I have to try to restart multiple times and even unplug my USB hub before succeeding. This happen with when running OS9.2 from my OSX pertition and from a seperate OS9.2 partition. I suspect that it has to do with my USB hub as it finally mounted when I disconnected it. All my hardware tests showed a okay drive. Let me know if there are any similar problems. Otherwise, this new driver seems to have fixed the psychedelic display problem. Thanks ATI and Battlefront. I must commend Matt in taking the trouble to email me and other ATI 9000 owners with the new fix. Cheers Chee-Yan
  18. I run CMBO and CMBB on my old PB G3 400MHz with 128Mb RAM. I believe the VRAM is only 8Mb on this model. I have no problems and it is at 1024 x 768 pixels. I have not tried CMAK as I have not received my copy yet. One solution may be to firste delete the CMBB preference file in the Preference folder in your system folder. Then set the screen resolution to at least 800 x 600 (minimum needed for CMBB) and then start up CMBB. It seem that the first time CM starts up, it checks the present screen resolution and records it in its pref file. If you remove the file, then it resets the screen resolution again for the game when you start it up aagin. Hope this helps.
  19. I have successfully run CMBO on virtual PC 4 at 800x600 on my TiPB 1Gz but it is still really sloooowwww ! when compare to running natively on my PB G3 400. So use it only if you can put up with the slow speed and if you can't get your CM fix any other way. Cheers
  20. Hi All I spoke to an Apple Software Enginner today who happened to be giving a presentation at our local Apple User Group. I described the situation and his suggestion was that because of the new cards and hardware calls for graphics, CM or OS 9.2.2 was probably not recognising it or using the wrong calls. The fix will need some sort of extension either from Apple or ATI. His other suggestion is doing a search on the net for such an extension. Anyone want to give it a go? Try OS 9 and ATI 9000 etc... In the meantime, I am keeping my G3 Powerbook to play CM and using my new Ti PB for everything else. Cheers
  21. Hi There I posted a partial fix to the problem and would be interested to know if it works for everyone. I have a TiPB 1GHz with I Gb RAM and a Radeon 9000 built in. I boot in 9.2.2 and then disable classic RAVE. I then ditch the CMBB preference file. I assign a memory of about 50000K and start up CMBB. I get a psychedelic display. I then quit and give CMBB a memory allocation of 200000K (about 4x initial) and restart CMBB I now get partial normal display with patches of psychedelic ground. As I scroll along, the patch moves and stays in the background. I am assuming that somehow there is a problem in how the card is using the memeory allocation as it calculates the 3D graphics during play and is aliasing. (Very lay assumption as I am no computer techie). The static parts of the screen has always been diplayed normally! Cheers Chee-Yan
  22. EUREKA ! I have a partial fix for the graphics problem. I run a 1 GHz Ti PB 15" screen with 1GB RAM. Partly by trial and error, I have CMBB running with only patches of psychaedelic diplay with most of the map being normal. It is not a full fix and maybe with the information I give you on my fix, someone with more technical expertise can figure it out. I boot in OS 9.2.2 (no separate partition) I have installed ATI Radeon 9000 mac Edition latest drivers from thier website I have diabled classic RAVE I trash the CMBB preference file so there is no pref file in the pref folder. I give CMBB the minimum memory recommended or perhaps 50000K which is still less than suggested Monitors is set to 1024x768 and colours to thousands of colours. Then I start up CMBB. I get normal menus and only patches of psychaedelic display in the background. The foreground is fine. Units show normal colours depending on angle and point of view. At level 1 or 2, everything looks normal. It is playable. IMPORTANT. You can give the game more memory once this is done as long as it is a whole multiple of your original setting eg if you assigned CMBB to have 47256K (minimum size) then you can give it 94512K safely. If the monitor is reset to diffrent resolution, you lose the display and the next time you start up the game, it will be partly blacked out or psychaedelic again. I suspect the problem is something to do with how CMBB uses and allocates memory based on the initial settings the first time it is started up. Anyone with technical and programming expertise is welcome to help out. This will let you play CMBB as long as you are wiling to scroll the map so that the map scrolls into the non psychaedelic bits. Hope this works on your machine and helps Cheers Chee-Yan
  23. gibsonm and aka_tom_w, I have exactly the same problem with my Ti PB G4 1GHz with I Gb RAM. I run OS 10.2.3 and 9.2.2. (no partitions - I just boot up on OS9 to play CMBB -or at least try to) I have found that running at Millions of colours and at full screen resolution and giving CM lots of RAM makes a slight difference. Less black but still colourful. The menus and windows still all work fine except the game window (very frustrating). Not sure if this info helps. Have also tried the latest drivers form ATI (for the RADEON 9000 Mac Edition) but no difference. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers
