  1. "Oh, yeah, also 'cause it's funny to see Michael Dorosh come storming in here with admonishments about why it is necessary to keep OT subjects where they belong. Really, subvet, MD does a MUCH better job of scolding OT posters." (chuckle) How true, where's he at?
  2. Ok, they weren't supermen. What I meant by crack were determined units, utterly given to their task, that knew the land, and knew how to fight. These guys were farmers, but they knew the terrain and weather like the back of their hand. They knew how to move around without being seen, they knew how to shoot. Now my question is, do regular troops in CM possess this quality? NO. You must represent the capabilities of the VC guerrilla abstractly, much like the game itself does when dealing with the infinite variables of war.
  3. Good Idea, but the Volksturm as VC would never work. Volksturm can't go above regular, and the VC were crack guerrilla troops...
  4. "So my point is quite simply "Here's to us F@#K The Rest!" or "If they don't like CM send em to Hell with a Bible in their pants!" Did that illicit a deep chuckle from anyone else?
  5. So screw you Babra....just kidding, sometimes you just ain't feelin it...I don't quit games with other people, but I haven't played a full one against the AI in months...
  6. I'll put it bluntly and succinctly. I'm young, and always liked any game associated with men, guns, and moving them closer to fight. Real time to me, SUCKS. Real time is a bane to careful planning and execution, real time is little more than a controlled Royal Rumble, if I wanna see that, I'll order the pay-per view. I looked a long time for a game that would allow me to play the way I wanna play, and I found it. CM, is undoubtedly the best video wargame I've ever played, period. You don't like it, fine, stick to some ****ty realtime like Starcraft, which I bought by the way, before I even heard of CM, now that I have CM, I can't even look at my starcraft box without breaking into laughter and pondering asking for a refund. Starcraft and its ilk certainly look a lot better, but they are still ****ty. Don't be a jerk, buy CM, it's hella worth it. (edited cause I'm a jackass.) [ 06-18-2001: Message edited by: Dunnee ]
  7. "I think most of the players who do that are kids." Bad generalization. Exactly the sort of thing that makes a blacklist all but impossible. "One of the things I like about CM is you mainly tend to get older players, people who can enjoy a well played game, win or lose. Many younger people today can only get excited by instant gratification as soon as they see that they can't overrun an opponent in 5 minutes they lose interest. Luckily most of them are not attracted to a game like CM in the first place." Older players are just as subject to "gamey" play as younger players. I played a 40-something the other day, and he used the recon jeep "rush" across a bridge, which pisses me off to no end. The thing I've found, is that although this game may be more complicated and thought provoking than other fare, kids still take to video games like a baby to breast milk. If anything is different between older and younger players, it's the fact that younger players are quicker to grasp the gameplay, quicker to figure the game out. Kids nowadays grow up on video games, I should know, I did. This, meaning CM or any other game, is an environment that is like a second skin to people 5-25. Although I feel your correct on the "patience" issue, meaning someone younger is more likely to quit quickly during a bad turn, older players seem to grasp the game somewhat awkwardly. Not everyone older mind you, but younger players I feel have an edge in regards to actually processing the way the game plays, and adapting accordingly. Older players seem to put too much stock in the fact that maybe they possess more knowledge on the subject of this tank vs. that tank, this squad vs. that squad, but the plain fact is, kids just know how to play, they don't care about that crap. I'd put up my band of 21-22 yr olds against 30-40 somethings any day. But I feel you on the giving up, it sucks, and screw anybody that does it.
  8. "What is so great about this game?" Hookers and eight balls are complimentary with the purchase of the cd.
  9. With the bigger arty, your going to get that. It takes a long time for those big shells to drop, it will say 22 sec. or something, but won't fall until the next turn or so. Don't worry, it's not a bug, mine does it all the time. The big stuff just takes a while is all.
  10. "Surely some of you lead lives so full of boredom that this would actually be considered a "fun" thing to do?" Not by a longshot.
  11. I don't know how I would advance, much in the same way I suppose, wasn't really any other options. I was merely replying to the fact that he said Axis armor was at a disadvantage when in fact they held all the advantages until the advent of the "bocage plow".
  12. "Use of plows was nearly universal by July 1944. FYI, axis armor WAS at a disadvantage in hedgerows." Ahhh, actually, axis armor had all the advantage in hedgerows. They saw no need to "bust" the bocage because sighting down narrow lanes and roads was much more practical. In Normandy, allied progress was measured in YARDS per day, losses were appalling, and one Pak-38 could hold a single road for days. The germans were much more content to let the allies waste shermans in such costly fighting.
  13. Ok, people say its "gamey" if you do it in the game and it wasn't done then. Well call me gamey cause I kick ass with the germans everytime and in the real war they lost brutally. One proud "gamey" bastard, fresh for '01 you suckers.
  14. I'd like to see CM IV capability. What I mean by that is, hook me up to an IV that drips CM directly into my nerve centers. Feel that? that first drip of CM just stabs into your arm...ahhh, sweet addictive bliss.
  15. Why do I like the 88? Well some people say it's slow, others say it doesn't traverse fast enough. If you use them in pairs, they are quite devastating. Perfect example is the Op: Road to Mortain. Used in conjuction, the two 88's you get stop the allied armored column cold. They are powerful tank killing guns, great for waxing infantry, and their "one shot, one kill" capability makes up for slow target acquisition. Like I said, if you can get a pair of 88's, you won't have to worry about armor coming from THAT flank, infantry too better beware.
  16. 88 Flak. When you can afford it, best gun in the game.
  17. Yeah, the Njimegen scenario is tight. I always use that one to test out new sounds, cause the action starts right away, it's pretty entertaining.
  18. For operations, I got Canadian Armageddon going with someone right now. It starts off a little unbalanced for the germans, but the map is tight, and you get decent reinforcements, I'd have to say it's pretty enjoyable.
  19. I don't get anything either when I hit the mini-campaign icon, what gives?
