  1. Lars, what you just said about standing off, I agree totally, with a beast like the king tiger, you stand off just out of close effective range of the allied guns and tee off on any ass that gets in your sights. And about an AT team shooting at a tank covering infantry, the way I understood it was, that the infantry would know where the big guns were, and would abandoned their cover before the tank they were hiding behind took fire. Like I said, it was used as cover from small arms to stage an attack.
  2. alright. . .I brought it up because i've seen footage of what i've talked about. Hiding companies of men behind tanks is a quick way to lose a battle, BUT, i've seen combat footage of WWII squads using tanks as cover in order to advance to a key building or hedgerow, that was my thing, you might not think its a good idea but it was done.
  3. Sounds interesting. When I play the AI it always picks one point of attack(if i'm playing defender or ME), and puts everything it has into this narrow attack lane, and always, I mean always, i find the spot and proceed to hand the AI its proverbial "lunch".
  4. lars, hiding a whole company behind a tank is just stupid, i meant a squad could slink behind a tank in real life, it doesn't work in the game.
  5. I've found that air support strafes the enemy a random number of times in different games. An aircraft will usually expend its heavy ordinance(bombs, rockets) on the first two turns of its appearance, and I think it will continue strafing with its guns if there are targets exposed, but for a random number of turns. I played one game and was using a mechanized german company, that damned plane practically took out all my transportation, stranding my troops a good 10 min from the action.
  6. Lars. . i never get a tank within 200m of any infantry unless i've already won. . .i was just saying that the kid's point was to use the tank as cover for infantry. .in that case. .i would hide behind the tank too, and not in front. And as far as hiding behind something that attracts a lot of fire. .infantry in WWII would walk behind the tank to their attack positions, filtering out around the tank as they started taking fire.
  7. thanks for clearin that up spoon. .i don't know if they used the same system in 44-45, but it seems that they would do something like that, but that is not exactly what's represented in the game.
  8. nah. . with the king tiger being a beast and all, your infantry should be behind it, and I do think it sucks that a squad can't take refuge behind a tank.
  9. fear in the fog was intense. . first hint of the enemy was just a full fledged battle covering about 200 sq m first time i played it. . i sweated hard for a couple turns
  10. Lanzfield knows what i'm talkin about. . .that's how they call artillery strikes. . first rounds land. . radioman says drop fifty and fire for effect. . and so on
  11. artillery in cm was modeled pretty well, that is, until you start firing. The LOS rule works well, until u wanna shell the middle of a village or woods. Here's my problem. . say i see a large concentration of enemy troops in a large pine forest. Now i start to shell them, trouble is, with LOS, my shells land in the field in front of the forest and only up to about 30 m into the forest. Why o why, can't my FO tell the arty crews to add 50 or 100m so that my shells land amongst the woods and not just in front? Same thing for a village. And what about time-delayed fuses for bunker busting?
  12. those uniforms are tight. . .was wondering if somebody could direct me to the desert fox mod site. . been dreaming of desert action ever since i got the game last summer
  13. hope I ain't too late to get in on that wine. . .
  14. that ish happens. . .u just gotta deal with it i'm sorry to say . .
  15. i'd have to say that my favorite scenario is 21st Panzer attacks(operation). I just loved the small, company sized engagements in the first couple of battles. It's a nice thing to actually worry about your men and the next battle for a change. I think this is the only operation where you need to keep your first available formations alive until reinforcements arrive. I just loved it.
  16. i'm involved with the meta campaign. . i want something i can use at home.
  17. In CM2, i would like to see a more rewarding campaign system. As it is now, you fight a battle and win or lose, you fight an operation and you get a small sense of carrying out a military operation. I would like to see more of a storyline, maybe a group of scenarios/operations that gives you choices on men, avenue of attack or lets you place your MRL and subsequent fallback positions. Something that goes beyond just one battle or 10 battles in a row. Maybe an operational map of the area, showing suspected enemy positions and objectives and then you decide how the operation is to be carried out.
