  1. Right, Wreck are you finished? I'm on battle 6 and there is no way I can stop anymore... Units still green, but were getting better all the time. Haven't played the demo yet - still downloading, but from the "changes list" it looks like you'll have to make the rules more lenient and definitely build in a conscript/green level for me BTW guys - if you want to learn CMBB - Wrecks Rules are the way to go - Realism in War like you've never seen before!! (the rhyme was accidental) [ September 01, 2002, 09:42 AM: Message edited by: Biltong ]
  2. Now I wonder - since we're 6 to 10 hours? ahead of the US - is 1 Sept based on GMT or one of your weird US times? I would love to start downloading while all the kids in your land are still in dreamland BTW - does anyone have an idea of the size of this demo... we're still stuck with forked stick modems here in Africa
  3. Flesh, you'll make my day!! And hundreds if not thousands of guys will remember you at their death bed Go for it! And who knows, BTS might be very interested in what you do... BTW - Wreck - I think a lot of newbies and regulars like me will give up early on.... I got wiped out in my first 2 tries and only got it right the 3rd time after I gave myself an extra 105mm, allthough my CO doesn't seem to think so - Favor: -14 after some serious armor losses Didn't know the Colonel got so p'd off if they burned. Only discovered this when I did the favor calcs... Ouch! As for Newbies... What about a table suggesting some extra units/points/whatever depending on how you rate yourself: Ultra newbie/newbie/regular... These units must then fall away after you've reached a certain experience/favor.. whatever? It would be a great pity for newbies not to be able to play these rules - This must be one of the best teaching tools there are... But great fun as is - the changes you made to the rules work well... I've found the replacement rules quite clear and reasonably easy... next time it should also be a lot easier and faster to calculate... Someone mentioned an Excel spreadsheet to help with the calcs - pls e-mail it to me if you've finished it. Starting the 2nd battle tonight - A bloody follow on attack - all my guys are still green and I lost my best 2 squads, but we've survived the first battle. Most of my guys have gained some experience and we will get better!! [ August 18, 2002, 06:07 PM: Message edited by: Biltong ]
  4. Excellent Henk - won't you do me a favour and let me know when it's posted - would love to read it... Hope you guys enjoy it
  5. Would be nice if 2 guys could take this on (PBEM) and give me some feedback The feedback from Sarge on the depot was good, but he only played it against the AI... [ June 14, 2002, 06:54 PM: Message edited by: Biltong ]
  6. Thanx Sarge - played it twice against the AI and twice against a tester (both sides each time) - I'm easily bored, but I enjoyed all 4 times... Those panzers are tricky ... Don't want to spoil it, but you have to be carefull
  7. For my last one I decided on a bit of fun - what do you do with a handfull of flammpanzers - commanding them or attacking them? Enjoy Battle Name: Burn Scenario Depot Version: 1.3 Size: Medium Turns: 30 Date: March 45 Time: Day Weather: Clear Ground Conditions: Very Dry Allied: Brit Axis: Heer Attacker: Allied Defender Dig in: Yes Scenario Type: Fictional Best Played as: PBEM Play next as: Axis with full bonuses for the Allieds as well as at least 25% loading - 50% if you are good; more if you are hot. Computer should: free to place Units Objective: Lets see - Brits: take the town and church - Axis: don't give it away Background: Flammpanzers - what to do with them...
  8. I'm the buddy from SA Send it here: biltong@betrim.co.za
  9. Just checked - they're not there yet - so I'll send them along. Hope you enjoy them. Up Close is my own favourite... Busy playing the umpteenth version at the moment and it has nice variety in action.
  10. I've been lucky with getting good revues for my scenarios (8+), but 2 of them got below 7 which is bad for my ego: Finally had time to go and fix them up... The one: "Rotten Hill" had a serious fault: The German (AI) bunker guns couldn't penetrate the Brit armor (yegh) and even worse - a clever player could sneak past all defenses and take the objectives without a fight! OY! The embarrassment when this was pointed out.. Well - now you can try your luck and see if you can take the Rotten Hill: Medium; Turns: 40; Aug. 1944; Dawn; Rain; Mud British Airborne & Engineers against AI only The idea behind this scenario is 3 fold: 1) It will give you an opportunity to use & experience the 14" & 7" masterblasters... 2) You'll get to use the AVRE's - very useful against bunkers, but their range is very short 3) You'll have to deal with extensive minefields and bunkers - look after your engineers!! If you don't know how to remove mines with engineers it might be advisable to set up a practice scenario first The second: "Up Close & Personal" got a very bad review :-( (could it be because the reviewer missed the note that it was meant for PBEM only ... Anyway, he still mentioned some valid errors and these have now been rectified. Meanwhile the scenario has also been tested quite extensively for balance and continuous combat purposes. Turns: 40 Size: Huge Meeting Engagement Day Clear Damp Fictional Suitable for PBEM only. Early April 1945 - Northern Ruhr. Hitler's actions were becoming more and more irrational. On the 12th he replaced Gen. Steeg with Gen. Flappe and ordered him to hold Raznik at all cost. Gen. Flappe rushed back to his HQ and shouted for his maps - he had no idea where Raznik was or why the hell it was important!... Raznik turned out to be a new rail depot (and hardly anything else) in the Ravel valley. It was a mayor rail link between the Ruhr and Berlin, but lay too far to the North of Army Group Central's advance to have any significant influence... But he was not about to voice his opinion to the Fuhrer... On the 16th Gen. Bernardt from 13th Corp was informed of a steady influx of men and machines into Raznik. He suspected that Steeg might try a surprise flank attack (he wasn't aware that Steeg has been replaced) and promptly sent a Battalion (the 34th) and a goodly mix of armor to take control of the town and rail yard. On the night of the 17th the battle of Raznik started with a ferocity unknown in that quiet sector... Two very experienced foes faced each other from the hills on opposite sides of the town... During the night both sides made a number of advances, were repulsed and advanced again... The Americans had some early gains and managed to capture half of the valley. If it wasn't for some old fortifications left over from the Great War the Germans would have been routed, but they held on. And their reserves kept on pouring in. When morning came the battle lines were a mess... Whole companies were cut off behind enemy lines and the front line was anyone's guess! They were on top of each other - the fighting was intense.. very close and very personal!! Comments: This fictional scenario was designed with two goals in mind: 1) To ensure immediate and continuous combat by two large and varied forces. 2) To test your ability to think on your feet Both sides will receive some reinforcements of men and armor throughout the battle. The skies are clear and even the Axis will have some air support - so beware! Don't get caught in the open... Both scenarios have peen posted to SD and should be there in a couple of hours. Note both are now version 2.2 - don't play the older versions.
  11. If you would like to try some crocodiles and AVRE's - see my post above: Nasty dirty Scenarios
  12. They're doing a up/down/sideways load or something - see Scenario Talk
  13. Hi guys - I'm finishing off some games and want to spend more time on scenario design & testing... Realised lately that testing others work helps me to make better scenarios as well.. So if you've got a large or huge scenario that no-one else wants to touch - send it my way - I'll do my best. Sorry guys: only PBEM and only large or huge. I've decided to stick to them because there's always a shortage of testers for these sizes. There seems to be enough or more testers for the other variants... Johan 'Biltong' Brittz betrim@xsinet.co.za
  14. You just made my day - I've been battling to get a tester for my latest offering Up Close & Personal (at the Scenario Depot)See description below. It's already been tested and I'm working on a mayor change at the moment, which should be ready today or tomorrow. If you like what you see, let me know and we'll test it together via pbem. I'll play the first couple of round as if I'm unaware (thereafter it won't matter) and you go in blind (so don't open it in the editor) Early April 1945 - Northern Ruhr. Raznik turned out to be a small industrial town in the Ravel valley. It did contain a mayor rail link between the Ruhr and Berlin, but lay too far to the North of Army Group Central's advance to have any significant influence... But he was not about to voice his opinion to the Fuhrer... On the 16th Gen. Bernardt from 13th Corp was informed of a steady influx of men and machines into Raznik. This fictional scenario was designed with the single purpose to ensure immediate and continuous combat by two large and varied forces. Both sides will receive some reinforcements of men and mostly armor throughout the battle. The skies are clear and even the Axis will have some air support - so beware! Don't get caught in the open... Day Clear Damp Huge: 8000+ (Germans) & 9000+ (US) points 33 Turns 2 player only. Comments would be highly appreciated Johan 'Biltong' Brittz betrim@xsinet.co.za
  15. Excellent Goanna - sent it along when you're ready John P Strycharz - thanx for the offer... I tried mailing you a couple of times, but the message comes back with "user unknown" - isp problems? let me know when you're up & running again
  16. Point taken Greenman - I wonder how many guys do this? Percentage wise.. BTW - if you like maps have a look at Mix & Match or Up Close & Personal - they're only suitable for 2 player though.
  17. LOL - Great idea Brew - all losers must from now on post reviews - this way we'll definitely get some negative feedback heh heh
  18. Goanna, I know most guys don't write reviews because they're simply too lazy, but I also suspect that a sizeable chunk don't write them because they're scared to look like fools... Guys, even if you are a newbie - whatever you write will still help... Obviously we don't act on everything we read, but if a couple of guys mention the same thing then we know there is a problem... or vice versa.. Don't for one moment think that we'll redicule your efforts - reviews are so scarce that each one is highly appreciated. Great BloodyBucket Keep it up - especially the nice reviews like that one Seriously: as Goanna says above: we especially need the negatives - they are the real kick-in-the-arse to better scenarios. BTW - anybody got the time to test a large one... My latest & best yet (I hope) see 'Up Close & Personal' at the depot. Give me mail if you like what you see and if your PC can handle a biggie.
  19. Good for you Bloody! Now if all the other downloaders would just review one here and there: 1) Scenario designers would end up making far better scenarios 2) all the players would find it far easier to choose scenarios thats in their taste 3) all round we'll have greater variety & quality... Win-Win-Win C'm on guys do your bit
  20. Just had a look at one of my earlier scenarios: Rotten Hill hosted at Scenario Depot. 58 guys downloaded it and only one guy gave it a review: M Hofbauer... the review was rather ****ty because as M pointed out I neglected to check my map and the main objective could quite easily be reached via an unguarded flank (amongst other flaws) The point I'm trying to make: 59 guys played a seriously flawed scenario, but only one guy bothered to mention the fact... Come on guys - don't worry if we'll think your comments are stupid.. don't worry that we'll be p'd off and jump down your throats (we can't - your e-mail address are'nt listed). Please, please for the benefit of all of us - take a few minutes and just mention one bad/good thing per scenario - that's the only way we'll get better and you'll end up having more fun. Thanx M - painfull, but unfortunately quite true
  21. Hi Goanna, I must be blind - I can't find the download counter (Scenario Depot) that you mention on the board...? looked everywhere on the list page and the scenario description page for a couple of scenarios... maybe it's just implimented on new scenarios? Johan 'Bilton' Brittz
  22. You'll going to need a cool head - things just won't go your way with this one... This is my latest and best offering yet... Players who enjoyed my other playthings (Arsefire! / Rotten Hill etc) should love this one. You'll need a reasonable PC though - it's 'Huge'. But you'll get action from the first minute! and a fistfull of nasty surprises... Up Close & Personal Early April 1945 - Northern Ruhr. Hitler's actions were becoming more and more irrational. I would also love to test this further against someone else myself... mail me if you are willing & able (regular, vet or better) I'll compensate for my knowledege of your forces and try and play as an 'unaware' opponent and give you a fair game.
