  1. Look, it's quite simple. This isn't the Freedom and Liberty Board. This isn't the paid-for-by-member-subscription board. This is BFC's board. It's private. A private board. And what does that mean?

They can act as they see fit. It's a despotism. Enlightened despotism, some might say, but despotism nevertheless.

Your opinion has as little value as mine. And if you don't like the way they run the board, leave, or start your own. Just please, spare us all your inane, badly spelled bleating about how it's all so unfair. You sound like me aged 14.

Nobody loses customers by banning idjits. That's like saying clubs would be better if they let in all the people with glass in their teeth.
  3. Von Lucke, IIRC the flamethrower was hull mounted, wasn't it? That tube looks like it's attached over the co-ax machine gun hole.

Interesting photo of the Jackson turret on the Sherman hull. I always imagined the turret ring on the Jackson was larger which is why they didn't put the 90mm in the Sherman, but you live and learn. How many of them made it in to the war?

  4. Shermans are pretty good. If you're fighting tank vs tank then you're fighting, apparently, a fairly uncommon battle. IIRC most battles were allied combined arms vs German infantry, maybe with AT guns.

From my one book on the subject it seems that 17pdr or 76mm were the largest guns fitted and sent to war in the Sherman. Presumably clever men with beards attempted to fit other weapons.

Short Answer: No, I'm not. My religous/spiritual beliefs underwent a pretty serious overhaul in the last year and a half. This has set some of my past political attitudes directly at odds with my current program (of the 12 step variety).

But, hey why don't you denounce that as well while you're at it. LOL! I think you've definately out-Stasi'd yourself bro. For someone who despises "commies" so much, you've certainly co-opted some of their absolute worst behavior.

There ya go. That's basically it. Look you guys can keep talking about this if you want. I've seen about all of the BF forums that I care to. Thanks much to Soddball for the recommendation. I intend to check CMAK out soon. Later.

JasonC isn't representative of the forums. Really, he isn't.

    Honest.

By the way, I haven't played CMAK yet. I'll admit I'm nowhere nearly as well versed in the North African/Southern European theater as I am with the Eastern Front or Northwestern Europe. How would you rate it in comparison with the other two games?

    Thanks for your feedback.

I prefer CM:AK. There are a few improvements to the gameplay over CM:BB, but mostly I just wasn't that excited by the Eastern Front. Hitler was a bastard, Stalin was a bastard.

The most fun I've had with CM:AK is either in the desert, or recreating CM:BO scenarios. I think that's where CM:AK excels - offering a range of improved gameplay features over CM:BO (such as covered arcs).

  7. Christ Jason, I've just read all ComradeMcD's posts and you come across as an arrogant nob. It was blatantly obvious that he was making a lighthearted jest about the NKVD.

ComradeMcD, Jason's just getting over being told to can it by the game designers. Jason was claiming that there was 'Nazi Fanboi overmodelling' of all German equipment against all Russian equipment, and was proved wrong. He doesn't like being shown up.

Sorry I can't answer your question about the scenarios, I play CM:AK now.

Doesn't sound like a problem. Just stick the disk in the drive.
  9. Looking at your pictures (very good, btw), I think the middle tank is going to be fairly easy to fix. A basic redesign of the shape of the turret to remove that shot trap will be comparatively easy.

The superheavy tank may be a problem, however. I can't really tell from the pics you've posted, but I think the slope of the top of the hull may prohibit easy removal of that shot trap.

It may be worth mounting the gun directly in the hull in a fitting like the Jagdpanther had - that way you'd be able to lose the shot trap and retain the huge gun.

    Then again, who knows. smile.gif

One other thought - some WW2 tanks often carried multiple turrets or a mix of weapons. This was discarded because of a number of reasons, including the inconvenience of carrying double-lots of ammo. The last tank I can think of was the early Centurion, which had a 105mm gun and a 20mm Rarden cannon. Whilst awesome looking and potentially cool, crews grumbled about unreliability, loading, more complexity, etc, so the idea was abandoned.

(Looks cool though, and it depends how much the sci-fi leans towards fi and away from sci :D . Just so long as you don't go all Warhammer on us and fit 38 turrets with a bazillion different guns, I promise I won't cry.)

Oh, btw, thanks for reading. I don't deliberately set out to make people's eyes bleed. Honest. I just got a bit waffly.

Thats a result of the turret design, correct?

If you have the time, could you take one of my renderings and draw an arrow to the problem area? I'll take a look and see what I can do.

    -Joe

You're absolutely right and you've drawn the arrow in the right place, too. When you look at the Panther G image you've posted, you can see the mantlet (armoured front of the turret) is curved.

The Panther G Late model you've posted a picture of had the problem resolved (although not all Panther Gs had this fixed).

Here's a picture of an early Panther with the original mantlet and a red line showing the inevitable consequence of the shot trap.

    ttt_panther_tank.jpg

There were 2 solutions. Firstly a 'ridge' on the top of the hull designed to deflect rounds upwards, and later a complete redesign of the mantlet.

  11. Your turreted tanks have a huge shot trap. A round striking the underside of the front of the turret would be deflected down into the top of the hull, where the armour's weaker.

Take a look at the curved mantlet of the early Panther for an example of this. Later Panthers had the design changed. You can see the influence of this on the design of modern tank turrets - no shot trap.

    Cute models though.

I would think most people would be more worried about AI, pathfinding, LOS issues, realistic terrain, etc, before worrying about how a rifle is rendered. Maybe I'm wrong.

Welcome to the world of the grogs. This is what happens. Eventually you learn to live with it.

People can't exactly worry about the stuff you listed, because they can't play the game yet. So they have the screenshots to look at and worry about them instead.

Compare it to a Sherman. Compare it to a Lee. Hell, compare it to a KV-1.

They're big, don't get me wrong - but they're not that much larger than any other equivalent tank. I've seen the Bovington tiger several times. At present they have it next to their latest King Tiger acquisition (they have one with a Krupp (?) turret and one with a Porsche turret) now that's a big tank.

You shouldn't compare what you've seen in one computer game to what you see in another and assume that either's accurate. The Tiger is not that big. The Lee is far higher, the KV-1 is almost as wide. The Sherman is nearly the same height. The Jagdpanther is bigger. If you want a big tank, look at the British TOG II and the A33 Excelsior.

no game has got the scale right yet IMO. Tigers etc are huge tall things, I don't get that feeling :(

Ever stood next to a real Tiger? They aren't 'huge tall things'. The Sherman is the same height, and the Lee is higher. I think you're projecting what you expect a Tiger to be like.
