  1. Not really CM related at all but over Xmas I decided to do a trawl for driver updates. I have a HP Deskjet 3820 printer on a Win XP Home PC and found new drivers for it which I installed as per instructions. Everything seems to be working OK but when I look on Device Manager now the Printer is not listed? Took me ages then to find the 'Hidden Device' view and when I click that it comes up. Why should a Printer be hidden? However, there is then no reference to the driver on the 'tabs' that come up when that 'Printer' is selected? The Printer is also listed as being on Port LPT1.4?? Only other reference I can find for Printers on Device Manager at all is under the 'Ports (COM & LPT)' which indicates 'ECP Printer Port (LPT1) that has a driver listed. I was going to uninstall the driver for that and start agin but, not being sure what I'm doing, I'm not sure if the LPT1 driver drives the Port and not the hardware. It's no great problem really but it's just a little odd/annoying that I can't easily see the driver details under device manager (which I thought was partially the point!!). Any help/views appreciated - before I waste yet more time on this :-(
  2. Ah - Thanks. New I'd seen it somewhere. Even had the XP manuals out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Not quite sure what I've done here (not REALLY CM related). When browsing sites and forums I have an info 'bar' at the foot of my screen indicating site loading progress, site address/info and whether it's a secure site etc. My wife's profile doesn't?? I'm not sure how it got turned off or indeed what the bloody thing is called to turn it back on? Any help on this greatly appreciated. Bloody annoying!!!
  4. Many thanks. Prsume I don't need to 'do' anything special before replacing (e.g. will the act of taking out the battery cause the rest of it to 'die' - BIOS set up etc). I did go into BIOS when I booted up last and was going to take note of the settings, there were an awful lot though :-(
  5. Somewhat OT I know but I only just noticed that the last couple of days, when I shut down the PC the clock hasn't kept time when I boot up again. Am I correct in assuming there is some kind of rechargeable battery buried in the gubbins somewhere??
  6. This site has some good schemes. IIRC 'Ambush' was mainly applied to Panthers, J/Panthers Hetzers and some Stugs. http://bsdi.usppp.com/wwiiscalemodels/schemes/panzertarnung.html
  7. Thanks. I initially thought it was a two tone green cam but it does look like it's built up on d/gelb. It's just that the green and brown used do seem to obscure much of the d/delb with this one. Michael - anything from the other book you mentioned?
  8. Planned to post this in the CMBO section but not sure how much attention that gets compared to here. Does anyone have any or any idea what might contain them? I have heard of the Panzer Colour books by Culver (Vols 1-3) and don't know if they contain any? I have also seen this site: http://bsdi.usppp.com/wwiiscalemodels/schemes/panzertarnung.html which shows a Pz IV in use with the Lehr. They are artists impressions from what I can gather and I just want to ensure they are accurate (ish). I'm also wondering whether they would tend to 'field camo' all their vehicles the same way (e.g. Panthers, IVs and JagdPanthers) or whether they may paint some up in 'ambush' pattern? IIRC at this stage of the war virtually all tanks etc were given a main coat of dunkelgelb yellow and then shades of green and/or brown over the top. I'm tyring to hang back from using the (IMHO for historical accuracy - overused) ambush pattern.
  9. Been out of it for a while. never come across the CMAK db. Excellent site. Thanks.
  10. I the CMAK lists when spending points on units there is an entire Jaeger battalion. These aren't Gebirg or Fallsch. Just wondering what they are.
  11. I've not come across these before. How would they be used historically? Would any be assigned to PzG or WSS Pz divisions? I am trying to find the closest to the Russian equivalent of SMg squads in the game. Closest I can find are these and, perhaps, some of the SS or PzG units which have slightly higher numbers of SMGs? Presumably the LMG was still the lyncnpin of the squads in late war and it seems the Germans did not go in for heavily SMG armed 'assault' type squads?
  12. I presume this 'rifle' is not another name for the MP44. If that's correct, who would be armed with it, where, when and why?
  13. Hi Andreas - long time no hear!! I'm mainly playing CMAK with the Normandy scenarios. I just fancy some variety from the olive drab (whether it's entirely accurate or not). Main ones I'd like to get are Churchill, Cromwell and Shermans. Didi some seraches on CM MODS Database and drew a blank pretty much. Timely that AndrewTF has just put up the Normandy Uniform mod!!
  14. Does anyone know if there are any? Only one I've found so far is the Firefly?
  15. Thanks. I'll probably look to tinker with the build unless I can find one froma supplier that fits the bill all in.

  17. Thanks folks. Think I'm leaning more to an AMD 64 3800 with Ge Force 6800 (not that keen on SLI from what i've read). Not sure about the flat screen now. Might stuff the extra cash into more ram, better cooling and/or better case.
  18. My son likes to play games like Rome Total war so I suspect another way of tackling this might be to ask for views on an 'ideal' (but not bank busting!) system for gaming today. With particular refernce to: CPU Video card Sound card Motherboard RAM Hard disk (may get two for video editing etc) Monitor OS Mouse/key board And other aspects I may have forgotten about.
  19. Re the NW Europe theatre battles on SD for CMAK, is the authour HSG? Did a search under Author and returned nothing??

  21. Well, it's my favourite time (apart from the hassle of having to get everything working the way I want.) Any views on this set up appreciated: Dell XP4S Intel Pentium 4 HT Extreme XP Home 1024 M PC4200 Dual Channel DDR 533 (2x512) 256M PCIeATI Radeon X800 XT (accepting no fog - just hope CMX2 will rectify - time to move to Radeons for me I think) OR I could have the GeForce 6800 at no extra charge. Premium Creative Audigy 2 Sound Dell 5650 5.1 speakers 17" Digital flat panel monitor (dell) 250G Serial ATA HDD (7200)
  22. I know it's Direct X 9. It also loaded Media 9 (which looks like its CA shorthand for Media Player 9). The 56.64 Nvidia driver install, despite my worst fears, has fixed problems. Thanks anyway.
  23. Well I succumbed and put my son's Rome Total war on my CM secure PC. Result - disaster!! I have an AMD Athlon 2100 running XP Home with an Nvidia GeForce Ti 4200 and a Creative Audigy Sound Card neither of which have had driver updates in last 3 years (deliberately!). When the game installed it also put Windows Media 9 onto the PC. I now have two problems: 1) RTW needs Direct X 9.0b (which it installed) 2) The worst problem - all the FMV (intros, 'cover stories' and history etc) on RTW which my son needs run with poor quality intermittent sound (which cuts out mroe than it is in) and not too high a picture quality. I am HOPING that an overhaul of drivers will sort all this out BUT may it be that parts of my config (e.g. sound and vid card) are not Direct X 9 compatible? I am not sure whether Windows XP SP2 (which I also have not got yet) might also help? Again I've been avoiding that (and being on 56K I hope it is available on a disc!!!!). I would particularly welcome any thoughts on drivers or indeed anything else that may be causing the FMV problems. I cirrently have the 3.0.8.7 video driver installed. The Windows update site has this Nvidia driver listed as the latest being released on 6/10/03 but doesn't give the driver version. Is this the current and best and/or most stable? PLUS any CM issues with it? I have now DL and installed Audio EAX 4DRV driver for the soundcard and am also going to install the later WEBUP PCW DRV as well. If those don't cure it I could well be stuffed? Would sound card drivers affect video and vse versa too? I'm not a regular driver updater and plan to do the changes by: a) Uninstall current driver through device manager and reboot let windows find what it needs on reboot then install new driver from exe file and reboot again c) defrag after all the mess Is that the correct approach. And finally, anyyhing else at all that you might think is causing the FMV probs? Could it be Media 9? Is it likely to be any settings? Any help VERY much appreciated. I HATE update time!!!!
  24. I seem to be encountering an increasingly annoying problem when trying to navigate between my numerous CM sites. Of late, when i click on certain sites in my favourites list I get the 'Page Cannot be Displayed' white screen, despite the fact the site may have been working fine a few minutes before. It doesn't seem to matter what I do (e.g. delete the Favourite entry and re-search for it; delete files and clear history in Internet options) or even shutting down Explorer and/or closing the Internet connection. The only way I seem to be able to navigate between sites without a problem is when I completely re-start the PC??? Any ideas? Could this be an Explorer settings or a PC related problem?
