Update from BFC on illegal copies in US??
Mikhael replied to Phantom Captain's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Why would someone want to illegally import it into the US? I was under the impression that the US version was the superior version? -

Exciting AAR, keep it up! -
Fantasmagorical! Once I'm back at school I'll definitely be ordering this one up, then. Surely a few turns now and then won't cut into studies that much, eh?

Howdy howdy, I was a vigorous player of CMBO a summer or two ago (bad, yes, but vigorous, nonetheless) and I remember one of the largest complaints about MG's in that game was that they were unable to suppress multiple targets over their entire field of fire, as real MGs would have been able to by simply traversing their weapon back and forth. I did my goldarndest to search for the answer to the following question, but could find nary a mention of it, so forgive me if this has been addressed on a daily basis to clueless knobs like myself. But damn the torpedoes, I'm asking anyway; has this been addressed in CMBB? Are MG's able to suppress multiple targets at once? If so, how's it? If not, why come?

A NEW OUTLOOK on an OLD MYSTERY.
Mikhael replied to Maximus's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Wow. I don't know if this is just a wrong impression or somesuch, but it almost sounds like you're making FPS fans out to be complete incompetents. Any FPS fan who has even the tiniest inkling of interest in the gaming industry would have no problems grasping the concept of strategy and war games... in fact, most of them probably play a few. Please, please, please don't go stereotyping an entire group... especially in such a broad, incorrect manner. Shudder. I hate it when people do that -
Is Croda a Manhooverist or Atritionist?
Mikhael replied to PeterNZer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
What happens if the Croda round makes it to the armor, penetrates halfway, and then stops? Does it just sit there peeking inside chatting up its target's crewmembers while its rear waggles enticingly? -
Heh heh, didja edit out some secret world-changing message of epic consequence, Tiger? Or just forget to add the "m" to spam?

Howdy, I'm looking for a good D-Day Normandy landing scenarios... any out there?

captured infantry behind my lines?
Mikhael replied to LEGEND's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
But not if there isn't anyone around to surrender to, like it sounds in this situation. That would be funny to see though A gaggle of troops merilly trotting along through the front lines, throwing a salute to passing officers on their way to the enemy and a POW camp. -
Ooh, count me in! Do we get points for quickest death? How about most creative? Biggest flames? The possibilities are endless! stephen_@bigsky.net

Poll: Newcomers, where do you get to know CM?
Mikhael replied to GriffinCheng+'s topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I'm not really a *new* newcomer anymore (got the game in November) but I'm definitely still a newbie I read a blurb on the game in PcGamer about a year ago, promptly forgot about it, and then for some insane reason around October I remembered, downloaded the demo, promptly peed myself and sent out the order Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention, I'm not a wargamer. Wargaming scares me. All I know about WWII is that it was a very neat period in history I play CM because it's one of the greatest games I've ever seen... but it has started me into some light research on WWII, now I'm thinking of centering my Senior Project next year around interviewing local WWII veterans. I enjoy spending hours lovingly crafting a mountain hamlet full of rolling hills and cobbled streets, with a few streams gently trickling across the landscape, surrounded by swaying trees and the quiet twitter twitter of birds, and then BLOWING THE HELL OUT OF IT I especially like the 1 view so I can get down and see the explosions reach above the rooftops. Good stuff.

Scipio, Just wanted to give you a major thumbs up. I absolutely love your mods... I think sound is just as important as visuals in *any* medium, entertainment or non... and from what I can tell, you've captured the sounds of WWII great. Ah hell, who am I kidding... I don't know anything about WWII, I just know the sounds kick ass! Thanks!

Scenario "Saving private Ryan" available ??
Mikhael replied to Monty's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I think there were probably a bit more then that... remember the part when they knock the tracks off the tank, and about 5-6 guys clamber up onto it, then promptly get shredded by the flak gun? I think that's pretty early in the battle, so there's a few more at least. -
OT Enemy at the gates: Opens this Friday?
Mikhael replied to scooleen's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Pah, c'mon now. Just because a movie has some interpersonal interaction doesn't mean it isn't a great film! I for one loved SPR, not just because it was a great film (which it is, in that heavy-handed Spielberg sort of way), but because I think it did a good job of depicting the era. The unity of the nation, the desperateness of war, it's all in there. So, it's a little hollywood... who cares? It's got great actors and a passable story, and even more then that, it brings back the feel of the era. I don't know much groggy stuff, so I wouldn't notice if some tank's turret was 5mm too small or somesuch, I just enjoyed it as a film -
Any mirrors out there for MDMP Soundpack?
Mikhael posted a topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I've heard great things about this and would love to have it... but I can't download it off CMHQ's ftp site, I can download a meg or so, and then the data transfer just stops, even with GoZilla... I don't get disconnected or anything, I just have zero line activity. Soooo, I'm hoping someone out there has a mirror up? Any other ways I might be able to get this mod? I appreciate any help -
Do Split Squads Cause More Suppression?
Mikhael replied to Robeek's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Doesn't that make sense? I know next to nothing about infantry tactics, but wouldn't it make sense that the squad sets up covering fire within itself? I'm sure squads didn't have to depend on other squads for covering fire all the time, like CM seems to model it. -
Also, their ammo usage is pretty high. The first time I bought them I about wet myself in joy at their 200 ammo loads, but it turns out they use probably close to 70-80 of those points per turn :/ Which is cool, I guess, since that means their target is getting positively deluged with mortar rounds, but kinda evens things out in the end. I do agree though, they're great suppression fire, loads of fun

The OLD days? How about last January when my PIII 560 with TNT Ultra was near the top o' the heap and could whip any pansy-ass pretender out there? *sad sniff*
