1. I've got the Detonaters, and they seem to work fine. Only thing I've noticed is target lines tend to get jerky sometimes, but that's about it. Oh, and also, the terrain isn't blurred all the way... I mean, when I go into view 1, only the few meters in front are processed and blurred, everything out past that is pixelated and such, it's actually pretty annoying. Anyone else have this problem?
2. I'd heard about the game before, and thought that was really sweet, because I've always been interested in the wargaming genre, but all the stats and grognard stuff scared me off. But, one day I was bored, so I downloaded the demo and fired up Valley of Trouble... and as soon as I zoomed in on that concrete bunker getting bombarded by 105MM... and the screen shook, and the dirt flew, and my ears bled... god, that was it.
3. Even if you don't see performance increases it's always best to update drivers ASAP just to ensure compatibility with the latest patches/updates to any programs you may have. I know DirectX can be really nasty about causing little random lockups if you don't have the absolute bleeding edge latest drivers.
4. Crikey! $60 an average price for a game! Good lord man, shop at Best Buy!
5. I've had this happen before, too, also during night missions, and when I have two seperate groups operating at once. Some rifle platoon will see the movement of my other group off on the other hill and become gung-ho about engaging them. At that point I slap them soundly and scream "GODDAMN WORTHLESS WASTES OF OXYGEN, THOSE ARE YOUR ALLIES STOP YOUR BLOODY SHOOTING!" At which point they continue to shoot and I groan.
6.
quote:
The skies in your Image 2 and 3.jpgs up there ARE the regular/stock/normal (however you wanna put it) Dusk/Dawn skies, trust me, hell trust us!

Ahhh! So it is. Heh, very embarassing. Actually less so considering how often I charge about like an ignorant rhino My sincerest apologies for not believing you the first time, now off to enjoying the skies (P.S., whoever made that cloudy sky shown in the CMHQ POTD, release it!)
7. Yeah, you're right, I have looked at those variations, just last night in fact, heh. Now I KNOW the skies in these pictures ( http://combathq.thegamers.net/mods/terrain/dd/Image3.jpg and http://combathq.thegamers.net/mods/terrain/dd/Image2.jpg as well as http://combathq.thegamers.net/POTD/Stuart_shot.jpg ) are not included in MY version of CM (1.0, I haven't upgraded yet heh), and I know at least some of those are MODS because I remember about someone commenting on the POTD shot. Someone mentioned the winter skies as being dawn/dusk? Is this included in a later version of CM? 1.05 maybe? I know it's not in 1.0, though... and I'd really like those skies, they're beautiful. Anyone help?
8. Thank you fox Those may not be the mods I'm looking for, but I KNOW some of the skies in those pics are MOD'd, not just cause they look so incredibly better then anything CM comes with, but also because I've heard people talk about them before. So n'ah!!
9. Holy cow... I want these skies! ( http://combathq.thegamers.net/mods/grass.asp ) look at the winter skies... bloody beautiful! Where do I get these? I didn't see them in the CMHQ section, does anyone have any idea where I can find those, and other sky mods? After seeing those screenies, I can't stand to look at the original skies any longer
10. side-note, express.com is a great place for DVD's too. you can find some great deals there, and most DVD's reach me up here in Montana in 2-3 days (regular USPS shipping)
11.
quote:
Originally posted by Monte99: Hail Mikhael! Whereabouts in Montana? I am a native of that fine state (Missoula), but I find myself in Pennsylvania at the moment, pursuing fortune if not fame.

Wow, another potential unabomber! I live in a little town called St. Ignatius, it's about 45 miles north of Missoula, about 50 south of Kalispell. How 'bout yourself? **EDIT Oh, heh, missed the part where you told me you live in Missoula Very cool, Missoula's an awesome city [This message has been edited by Mikhael (edited 12-28-2000).]
12. Man! You guys were lucky Not only do I live in Montana (a bajillion miles from Caroline or wherever BTS is located.. maybe it's Maine, can't remember) but it was during the horrendous midwest snowstorms that my little package had to cross right through so it took me a week and a half from BTS confirmation for me to get it!
13. Like, on the scale of a phobia. The very site of a spreadsheet full of numbers, facts and details makes me quaver. My brain errs on the lesser side of logical, I curse math on a regular basis, and I know practically nothing about any kind of real-world military tactics. But, real-world military tactics are cool. So cool in fact that I always read wargame reviews, even though I don't understand half the discussions, just because the genre itself intrigues me. What is this getting to? It's a thanks. A big, fat thanks to BTS for building a game that lets me fight cool fights without having to know anything about my units beyond "big gun shoots far, little gun shoots not so far." I can play this game using my basic knowledge, and that means that I'm starting to get interested in some of the details, it means I want to know more about the inner workings of my units... And that means, you've created a war-gamer BTS And thank you.
14. UPDATE: Okay, now it's officially a DirectX problem, none of my other directx games are functioning either. Grr, damn that Microsoft! So, my question, how do I get rid of Directx8 and go back to 7? Please?
15. Help me! Combat Mission finally arrived today but it get the message 'A required file DDRAW.DLL cannot be found." Now, that looks like a DirectX file to me, and I do have a copy of it on my system, I moved it into the Combat Mission directory and instead of getting a message it would just lock up whenever I tried to start it. I installed DirectX 8 just last night, but never got a chance to play anything on it, so I assumed that was the problem and reinstalled it... no difference. So, I decided to revert back to DirectX7, but it won't let me! What do I do? I desperately want to play but CANT!
