  1. I live in Richmond Virginia, and I have family in Arlington.
  2. Thanks for your help kingfish, I already checked this one, (google search) Sean
  3. I am need of finding unit history for a friend. Could anyone tell where to begin looking? His name was Private Vincent J. Clark Born August 14 1913 Died October 9 1944 near Aachen Germany Member of 39th infantry, 9th infantry division. If anyone could help me out, I know it is this forum. Thank you.
  4. why not mod it yourself then? Take the time to learn it yourself. Hey and while you write it, could you also write a mod that models swaying trees and crumbling buildings from the concussion of explosions? That would be just rad.
  5. And of course his opposing unit would be an Ed Harris uber evil sniper....
  6. There is a human highway tunnel that goes under the champs ellysee to the arc de triomphe. You shouldnt cross above ground, you will get killed.
  7. I too really enjoy the maps, with modest hills, on a medium field, usually produces some fun maps.
  8. I am all about the QB now. I was facing a burnout situation last week, and then I started setting up ridiculous QB scenarios with computer picking the vechicles weapons etc... Oddly enough, I never really heard much marketing junk about the QB, I personally think it is the best feature of the game (besides MODS).
  9. The other morning, my girlfriend and I were getting some things together for a yard sale. We were standing outside the door, and about 200 yards away a woodpecker was hitting the tree. The cadence, and sound of the woodpecker sounded like a SMG from about a half-mile away. I pointed this out to sarah, and her reply was "so would this be a sound contact honey"? I love this woman. Hope all your weekends were fun and productive, and filled with similar moments.
  10. It seems to me that many people out here seem to lament about how much coverage the German Wehrmacht 1939-1945 DOESNT get in movies etc... (something akin to "why are they always the bad guys?...etc....) This image you made, although is cool in a creepy way should not (i hope) symbolize some desire to identify with that army, it's philosophy etc...on your part. I recently read a book, and a GI recalls being in Germany during the end of the war, and a German boy says something to the effect that German tanks were better than the American ones. The GI tanker's reply was "If they were so great why arent they here?" I really dont have a point except that it kinda creeps me out when I see people romantacizing (SP?) the Nazis etc... Dont forget what those germans were fighting for, not for freedom, but Lebenstraum. HI MOM!
  11. I have just finished rolling out win2k company-wide and I am very pleased with the OS. My company also uses a UNIX server for all of our accounting packages etc....The unix server has yet to crash in my two years at this company. So far in two months, the win2k machines have yet to crash. If this osX really incorporates a UNIX kernel, then it should be stable, but what about it's graphic drivers?
  12. I am in the NSSBII and I wanted to get some turns out at work, to speed things up, but everytime I choose load email from the menu, the computer dies. The screen goes black, and shuts down. I am running a PIII 550 with a NVIDIA TNT2 and 128 megs of ram on win2k. Anyone have any ideas?
  13. This happened over at Bungie. After people played Myth for such a long time, and made alot of mods etc... Myth II was created, and a split occurred. Some liked the original better than the second one. Most people liked the physics engine of the first game better than the sequel. This brings me to my point. When CM2 is released, at first many will drop and play the game, but others will come back, and slowly two camps will form. I wonder, will there be two message boards, for each respective camp? It will be curious to see what happens.
  14. Beyond Valor: World War II's Ranger and Airborne Veterans Reveal the Heart of Combat. 650 oral histories from some of the actions of these units. So far I have read about the raid on Dieppe. Not a bad book, you may want to wait until it appears on paperback
  15. I used to think I knew alot about wwII until this message board. Now I pretty much just read other people's research and think wow that's reall in-depth. I dont get yelled at by my girlfriend for playing CM. I hear this alot on this message board. My strategy is thus: if she can nap, or read a book, or watch tv etc... then I can play CM, because it is no better or worse than what she likes to do with her free time.
  16. Washington Post Review: I don't want this to come out the wrong way, but Ed Harris makes an excellent Nazi. In "Enemy at the Gates," set during the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942, he's the immaculately dressed Major Koenig, a German patrician who proudly wears his Iron Cross, speaks only when it's essential and smokes his gold-tipped cigarettes with the clipped savoir-faire of any great James Bond villain. He holds his cigarette at a stiff 90 degree angle, savoring the smoke that he has just inhaled, his thoughts tenaciously focused on his mission: to kill a certain, persistent Russian sniper. Koenig is a sniper himself, the best in Germany. This is going to be quite a matchup. This Russian sniper (Jude Law), a peasant named Vassily Zaitsev, has been hiding in the ruins of Stalingrad, plugging Germans by the dozen. His kills have become a sort of celebrated score sheet for Stalin's public relations mill; Vassily is an instant celebrity, the savior of his people, a hero for all time. Hope like that can change the outcome of a battle. Naturally, the Germans need such a figure dead. In "Enemy," it comes down to this: a single bullet in either sniper's brain is going to settle the Battle of Stalingrad and World War II, once and for all. Does it get more riveting than this? There are other people involved in this chess game: a Russian apparatchik named Danilov (Joseph Fiennes) and his communist boss (Bob Hoskins), who are using Vassily's success for the people's dailies; Tania (Rachel Weisz), a Jewish sniper who wants to shoot the Germans who just executed her parents, and who's falling in love with Vassily; and the teenaged Sasha (Gabriel Thomson), whose fickle impulses (he's an informant for both sides) could be Vassily's undoing. An ambitious war epic (many scenes of massive slaughter and the destruction of Stalingrad) featuring a quintessentially American actor (Harris) as a Nazi major, a trio of People magazine cover-Brits (Jude Law! Joseph Fiennes! Rachel Weisz!) as Russian soldiers, and all of this directed by the Frenchman (Jean-Jacques Annaud), who made "The Name of the Rose," well, it gives you pause, doesn't it, monsieur, mein Freund, mate, dude or comrade? But as long as you focus on the central sniper-versus-sniper story – and not the dreadful mishmash of jarring accents or the film's unconvincing romantic subplot or any of the personal relationships – you'll enjoy it. Sure, that's a lot of things to ignore, but there's ample enough left to enjoy. The movie, based on the real exploits of a Russian sniper during World War II, certainly keeps your attention locked and loaded. That's because, most of the time, we are watching Vassily and Major Koenig in deep, perpetual concentration. They are after one thing: the perfect shot. And they're using the massively broken and destroyed Stalingrad as their battle ground. A downed Luftwaffe plane, kilometers of old rusty factory pipes, broken walls, a cast-iron stove, the littered bodies of soldiers – these are things to hide behind. These are the milestones along that painful crawl to the perfect vantage point. This movie may seem to some like little more than boys' war games. But director Annaud, who wrote this with Alain Godard, knows how to milk the suspense. It's clear that Annaud has seen and appropriated some of the gruesome battle details used by Steven Spielberg in "Saving Private Ryan." If nothing else, you really understand the impact of a bullet in this movie. And you appreciate the compelling excitement of shooting to kill, before the other guy gets you first. "Enemy at the Gates" (R, 131 minutes) – Contains graphic war violence, nudity and sexual scenes.
  17. My brother and I have a term for the computer evening the score. Getting Maddened. Madden football was the cheatin-ist game in Genesis history. You would be up by a couple of TD's and then suddenly the CPU starts returning kicks to the endzone. LOL
  18. Mimary, check out any of the Myth games from www.bungie.com (recently absorbed by Microsoft). These games feature full replay capabilities which have spawned countless web pages devoted to the coolest replays etc... One word of caution, before you use the words, SHARE, or DREAM in any post, no matter what it involves search it first.
  19. get a mac, buy airport, play pbem games from whatever position is most comfortable for you
  20. I beleive SPR was what is known as a "movie", if you were under the impression that it was a documentary about the harsh realities of ww2, well then I guess it sucked. IMHO it was a good movie, nothing more, or less...just entertainment.
  21. I would be a great pushover opponent for anyone's first round.
  22. I read war of the rats, in fact that author is from Richmond VA. Utter and complete tripe. It is like a Daniel Steele novel for war novel grog people. The worst part of the book is this one sex scene in particular. These two people crawl through a sewer on their knees, a la Shawshank Redemption. Covered in foul smelling human excrement, they proceed to have sex.
  23. LOL ooops I meant 1941 Whatever the damn title, it still looks like crap.
  24. RANT=ON ,,What is the general consesus on this one? The preview didnt show much, and I havent heard much about it. I saw Crouching Tiger...and saw a preview for 1942, and the preview really pissed me off. My bull**** sensor was going completely off the charts. That scene with the american flag under-water was too much for me. It looks like a colorized version of a WPB movie done just after the attack. PROPAGANDA PROPAGANDA PROPAGANDA! CG cant save everything, it may have saved private ryan, but it wont save this one. ,, RANT =OFF P.S. Hi mom.
