But it would be nice to view my army prior to the fray and feel that I was leading Patton's best and not the Dirty Dozen. [ 08-24-2001: Message edited by: CaSCa ]

Shame, shame! We NEED this in order to do proper medal awards ceremonies, and also to properly simulate Patton addressing the troops...
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: Those with broadbanmd seem to have a much better go of it than those who do not for some reason.

{Clears throat in order to achieve a very high pitch whine} Well, I have a cable modem, but no joy.
quote:
One thing you will want to try and do is be as specific as you can when you conduct a search.

I try a search for 'video card', subject only, last 30 days, and it fails every time... {resets voice to normal 'squeaking in the wilderness' tone, and slinks back to the cellar}
 3. Is there any way that topics older than, say 1-Jan-2001 could be archived into a write-locked forum for refernce purposes? Take a copy, delete the newer posts, write-lock it; delete the older posts from the 'live' forum? Repeat every year... The search 'feature' seems to be slower and slower, and generally only good for an excuse for a tea-break, not that an excuse is ever really needed... I am assuming that the number of topics and replies is somewhat related to the slowness. I apologise if this has been covered before, but this is the very first time I have whined about it, honest guv
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by David Aitken: You should not be able to see activity behind the hill, and this is how CM works. You would, however, have a good idea of the terrain behind the hill, through maps and pre-battle reconnaissance.

Um, is this true for ME's, though? If so, then wouldn't that support the view that one could consider positioning a gun in a hidden, favourable position simply an minor abstraction of the 'setup' phase (transport, unlimber, hide, have a cuppa, whatever)? What are we talking about here? 1% of a 2500 point GAME? If not, then SET HORSE/MODE=HIGH/POSITION=MOUNTED 1) How can you possibly even contemplate playing this GAME from anything but level 1, using the +/- keys only to move between units, and not using Line of Sight, etc. Oh, and turn on all trees, no bases, realistic size, etc. etc. 2) Where are the mods to turn everything black-and-white? Everyone knows that that is how the world was back then, and blah blah blah... 3) When playing the Germans, please only think in German, Polish - think Polish, British - don't even dare unless you can say 'air', 'hair' and 'lair', consecutively. In which case, you ARE capable of a UK greeting (try it - you'll like it). Irish would require 'Well', 'Oil', 'Beef' and 'Hooked', but I digress. SET HORSE/DISMOUNT Hangup and Drive. Shutup and Play. Edited because I can't type, and therefore can't play the GAME. [ 08-12-2001: Message edited by: Letsbe Ave. ]
 5. Maybe you should ask in the technical forum - I fixed machine hangs by getting latest video and audio drivers and latest DirectX from microsoft.com. Also, have had problems with some sound mods when using an older audio card... Hope it helps. [ 08-11-2001: Message edited by: Letsbe Ave. ]
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Peter Panzer: michael: the actual image retained its original dimensions. the result is a large white screen in which the image itself occupies approximately one third of the total space. no fun. is there a way to increase the dimensions of the image itself without turning it into a pixelated mess. do i simply need to find an image which has dimensions closer to those i need?

If you are using MS Windows Paint, you can Image/Stretch to alter the image size by %age points, or use Image/Attributes to enter the final size in pixels, centimetres or inches. And yes, you should find an image closer to the desired size, otherwise you will see pixellated artifacts. Hope it helps.
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Panzer Leader: Hey, while we'rew on the subject: I have a Cardex brant TNT2 Riva 32mb. Anone know what the latest drivers are for that, and how do I check to see which ones I have.

www.nvidia.com contains drivers for all Nvidia chips, but there is a disclaimer that the companies they sell the chips to (in your case, Cardex, I presume) normally release their own drivers, so check their website first. The latest Nvidia drivers, therefore, for your TNT 2 card are the v12.41 Detonator drivers referred to above. You can check your drivers under Windows by right-clicking My Computer/Properties/Device Manager/Display Adapters, or by running /Program Files/Directx/Setup/Dxdiag and then look at the display tab. Hope it helps (ducks, and runs for cover).

 9. I re-installed Windows into a new directory on my machine and had all kinds of graphics problems until I upgraded DirectX to something recent...
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by BloodyBucket: From what I have read, the phrase "Arghhh Fighter\Bombers" seems to sum up the experience of many a German commander on the Western Front.

Well, one of my first PBEM QB's was as Axis - I bought an expensive tank and hid it behind a ridge. Needless to say, after a turn or so of zooming around, the eyes-in-the-sky immobilized my tank, then took it out, then took out at least one more piece of armour, and strafed my troops into the bargain. The next game, I thought, Ha!, purchased my Allied aeroplane, and included an anti-tank gun for good measure. I put the gun out of sight in a good-sized depression and waited. Sure enough, an aircraft came zooming around, took out my AA gun and disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again. It turns out that it was mine - my opponent had not purchased air support, and neither have I, from that day forward...
 11. I think the majority of right-thinking people in this forum are sick and tired of being told how sick and tired we are with being told we are sick and tired (of the XXX vs YYY debate). I certainly am not. And I'm sick and tired of being told that I am.

I saw some fairly ugly orange and greens (not fruit and veg.) in the last several minutes, but it seems to be stabilising as we speak... my eyes are now returning to their sockets.
