1. Geez I didn't realize people think crews are so decisive in Combat Mission. Heh luckily BTS is a lot more patient than I am or else customer complaints would just be answered with "piss off!" well actually that sorta sounds like my answering machine message ------------------ There was a long silence of rememberance for the dead, to which I added these names: Ernst Neubach, Lensen, Wiener, Wesreidau, Prinz, Solma, Hoth, Olensheim, Sperlovski, Smellens, Dunde, Kellerman, Freivitch, Ballers, Frosch, Woortenbeck, Siemenlies... I refuse to add Paula to that list, and I shall never forget the names of Hals, or Lindberg, or Pferham, or Wollers. Their memory lves within me. There is another man, whom I must forget. He was called Guy Sajer.
 2. Damn I just finished watching "Assault on Firebase Gloria" on TNT and I was impressed. I had never heard about this gem of a war film before but it sure does Vietnam without the wacky Hollyweird slant most other movies have! Damn and "Gunny Hartman"/R. Lee Ermy as the voice over and star of the film make for a some believable action. The special effects and some of the other stuff leave something to be desired but it was cool especially when they ask this guy who was killing prisoners if he was a rapist when he was back in the US of A. ------------------ There was a long silence of rememberance for the dead, to which I added these names: Ernst Neubach, Lensen, Wiener, Wesreidau, Prinz, Solma, Hoth, Olensheim, Sperlovski, Smellens, Dunde, Kellerman, Freivitch, Ballers, Frosch, Woortenbeck, Siemenlies... Bah, I wasn't talking about your election! No matter how big it seems to you lot, it is of no interest to me. For the past couple of years all we've heard is "gosh, look at the size of the US's election!", and Bush and Gore have taken turns to be on top, and then at the last minute they got into trouble for liking it too much, but ultimately the election went floppy for Gore and Bush kept a firm hold of it, so now Bush is going to be permanently elect for the next few years while Gore looks elsewhere to have his drooping ego massaged. And thanks to Bill Clinton we all know the difficulties of being elect, especially with all those interns running around.

Yuck ...... the mental picture I got of either of the candidates is too nasty ------------------ There was a long silence of rememberance for the dead, to which I added these names: Ernst Neubach, Lensen, Wiener, Wesreidau, Prinz, Solma, Hoth, Olensheim, Sperlovski, Smellens, Dunde, Kellerman, Freivitch, Ballers, Frosch, Woortenbeck, Siemenlies... 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Gimp: Why is it that whenever a female -- any female, not just Kitty -- posts something topical and interesting, this forum invariably degenerates into some discussion of gender roles, flirtations, implicit sexual advances, or other off-topic crap? I swear you guys are a bunch of testosterone-dripping apes sometimes, and after seeing this phenomenon for the umpteenth time it has gone from irritating to downright pathetic. Shatter: The reason you remain civil and don't flirt with the female forum members is because it's RESPECTFUL. Think of lighting up a big cigar in the middle of the No Smoking section of a restaurant. It's not just the wrong place to do that, but it's disruptive and rude to everyone around you. There are places to flirt, and there are places to discuss CM and/or WW2 history. Guess which one this forum is? MadMatt: This topic has strayed far from its original purpose. Why wasn't it locked long ago at the first sign of trouble from the hormonally-imbalanced? Hopefully THIS post is off-topic enough to warrant shutting this thing down. Quenaelin: You're an idiot, but I applaud you for sticking to the spirit of the original topic. All of you: Resist the temptation to make every single topic created by Kitty a referendum on Kitty as a person, a CM player, a female, or whatever. That means con AND pro. Must I read about Kitty being "special" and having "sharp claws" in every damn topic within which she participates? Everyone feel free to reply to this message if you must. I'll probably ignore it. Or if you'd like, e-mail me instead so I can ignore you without wasting forum space. Cheers, Gimp

Nice comments Gimp, this topic is getting kind of tedious. 10. I had an idea! If combat mission had monster trucks, some sort of redneck announcer, and little numbers painted on your tanks with phony nascar type drivers imagine the huge fan base! lol I want to hear "King Tiger rolls through leaving an incredible path of destruction behind him" during a game...... well maybe this idea wasn't so brilliant ------------------ There was a long silence of rememberance for the dead, to which I added these names: Ernst Neubach, Lensen, Wiener, Wesreidau, Prinz, Solma, Hoth, Olensheim, Sperlovski, Smellens, Dunde, Kellerman, Freivitch, Ballers, Frosch, Woortenbeck, Siemenlies... 11. My only success with the stug has been using it when either a StuH or a hetzer would have done the job a lot better. The only time I have ever taken out tanks with it I have been using ambush positions like when I use hetzers or other tank destroyers. I also find it's large sihlouette compared to the hetzer and much weaker armor makes it a much poorer choice against tanks. Personally when I want an infantry support tank I will get a stuh because it's howitzer kicks ass ------------------ There was a long silence of rememberance for the dead, to which I added these names: Ernst Neubach, Lensen, Wiener, Wesreidau, Prinz, Solma, Hoth, Olensheim, Sperlovski, Smellens, Dunde, Kellerman, Freivitch, Ballers, Frosch, Woortenbeck, Siemenlies... 12.
quote:
Originally posted by jgdpzr: Personally, I wouldn't call the Jagdtiger a weapon ahead of its time. It was merely the most fully realized example of Hitler's quest for fielding the biggest, baddest AFV possible. Yep, the gun would devestate all-comers (particularly coming from the West) and the frontal armor was damn-near impenetrable. However, calculating it's true combat value must include adding up the opportunity costs associated with its selection. Simply put, would you rather have one Jagdtiger or two or three other well-armored and capably gunned TDs? As a centerpiece of a well orchestrated and supported defense, it certainly makes one helluva tough nut to crack. Just don't rely on moving the sucker, especially in anything but perfect ground conditions. And remember, artillery (through HE and smoke) and air support can really hamper the effectiveness of such a lumbering, stand-off vehicle. Still, I'll admit crossing the sights of one of the beasts is not something I would enjoy had I been an allied tanker.

I think it must be worth having for psychological value alone! 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Atlas: The more you read about the Eastern Front (or the "Great Patriotic War" as the Russians called it), the more you realize that 75+% of WWII was fought in the Soviet Union. For most of my life, I have been reluctant to give those brave men and women of the Soviet Army the credit they deserve. Now, I laugh when people belittle their sacrifice. These amazing warriors were mostly responsible for ridding the world of Hitler. They had to fight not only the greatest army the world had ever know, but they had to do it under terrible, terrible leadership. I salute YOU brave Soviet Soldier! While the American and British did not contribute to the defeat of Hitler as much as the Soviets, they did something just as important. They prevented Stalin from capturing Western Europe. Although Hitler is widely known for his tremendous evil, Stalin killed more of his own people than any other man in history. Our men and women stood in Stalin's way: from Western Germany to Korea. 21. I think Pillar's advice while sounding somewhat radical is ultimately sound. I have played numerous Meeting engagements with my brother and while he rushes the VL's I will just lag back and scout out his units and probe him. Rushing the VLs usually leads to a sort of false sense of security. I don't usually use anti tank guns to take him out after this but a careful use of hetzers and the armored cars with 75 mm infantry guns to support my infantry. It worked numerous times for me but it would be interesting to try it with anti tank guns instead. 23. I have rarely used the wespe because I think it is too vulnerable for the price but I have had some success using the greyhound. I think it is excellent in the scout role and with it's 37mm gun and two machine guns it packs a lot more of a punch than a half track. I use them a lot and I think it does a good job skulking around the battlefield initially and harassing infantry or other soft targets. 24. I don't know if it would be possible but I think it would be nice if the player could access the detailed description of a vehicle while in the purchase screen. I don't know how hard this would be to implement but since I am not really a grognard I sometimes think this detailed information would be very helpful when making final decisions on purchases for a quick battle.
 25. I must confess that when I play the Americans I have no idea of the subtle differences between the different models of Sherman tanks. I understand that the 76 mm gun variants are best against tanks and the 75 vs infantry but I have never read anything that described the differences between the type a1 and type a3 as well as the w modifications. Is there any sort of website that makes these clear? ------------------ There was a long silence of rememberance for the dead, to which I added these names: Ernst Neubach, Lensen, Wiener, Wesreidau, Prinz, Solma, Hoth, Olensheim, Sperlovski, Smellens, Dunde, Kellerman, Freivitch, Ballers, Frosch, Woortenbeck, Siemenlies...
