  1. 1950's. Lets see NATO - fighting in Europe. Europe being metric- [thanks to the bloody Belgians] Nope , why would the US Army want to go metric just to suit its Allies and all the local signage. Strangely a decision most impressive and unexpected.
  2. ? ooH. Well I'm confused then. CDV must have changed things then. Should you be contacting CDV? Perhaps they tried a new system to stop people using cracked exe's - became popular because the original CDV CMBB/CM2 were so iffy in a lot of CD drives. They would just whirr around and around and you would sit like a prune waiting.
  3. Tsk! Think through this a bit. Depending on the size of map or terrain it is possible to use them for bringing other weapons to an interesting area. Or making your opponent believe you are doing it : ) Hopefully towards game end they can actually be sheeting and suppressing some broken infantry. However regrettably most CM games are played on smallish maps where your transports could die in which case hiding them or even driving them off-board would be sensible if it means avoiding giving your opponent kill points. Rarely do people pay a lot for transport unless it is a very big map.
  4. The key is the CD in the drive. However it was always a bit of a dog the CDV CD and did not like some CD drives.
  5. I was looking forward to " ...racy-theories" What a lousy linky : (
  6. Hope you get better soon JK. Thanks guys for reminding me of threads I could barely recall - they obviously meant more to you : )
  7. and Molly were also out there to be shot at. You must pay more attention! : )
  8. Yes Governments worldwide having pocketed the cash from spectrum sales now discover what any child could have told them twenty years ago. But then money talks very loudly. The hypocrisy of getting hot on drinking and driving at the same time as the Govt.s sponsor a technology which is more pervasive and more dangerous.
  9. Looks like your vertical scale is too fierce. Bear in mind that the Churchill was a bit special in that it could get to places impossible for other tanks - but this I do not believe is reflected in game. You may have to trade map accuracy to accomodate the game engine. If you lower the height making "roads" out of rocky terrain through impassable may provide the speed retardation that might be appropriate. It may be interesting to see if the power to weight ratios pan out on hills : )
  10. Thanks for the link - a really good atmospheric piece. Should be mandatory reading for a lot of people.
  11. I am not sure that the CM game engine can be relied upon to reproduce historical tactics. Firstly you would have to believe that the points system allows you to buy sufficient Russian tanks to take losses in overrun attacks. Now this might be true in rarity off - or possibly not. Also the fighting algorithm may not account very well for all the variables - particularly movement. On the plus side the shoot and scoot may actually be more effective than a straight fast order in that spotting may well be better in the brief stoppage period. Its nice to remind people that shoot and scoot has two uses : )
  12. Definitely says twice : ) It is interesting that it was recorded as an attraction to child porn when he was at a facility in his pre-marine years - what does that mean? He was reading/lookoing at someone elses? Is it that easy to come by?
  13. If possession of child porn is illegal then the first time he was caught should have been a trial - surely? Or does the constitution allow the armed forces carte blanche as to what laws to enforce?
  14. I have a problem understanding what goes on here - if child pornography is illegal in the States how come he gets caught twice with it. Is not once sufficient?
  15. It is amazing how history repeats itself. A Republic/Empire working on the basis of bread and circuses to keep the masses quiet whilst the upper classes get on with extracting as much juice from the civiliation as possible. In any event I am all for sex but media violence is proven to have behavioural effects on those who watch it. And I don't mean good effects. http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/issues/violence/effects_media_violence.cfm
  16. I don't think so as there is no obvious link via language. My belief is it comes from herding animals were one herder or more may look after many peoples stock [livestock]. So essentially a number is involved. So the concept of division/shares was ingrained in the culture. From Wiki again a little history but without much on the term itself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_stock_company
  17. http://www.oilandgasonline.com/article.mvc/Air-Casters-Ease-Move-Of-Towering-Oil-Well-0001 kind of interesting
  18. Eat. sleep, garden, play CM, look at stocks, look at any interesting patent applications, and then just laze around. Its dangerous but someone has to do it.
  19. Very highly regarded old thread http://www.avforums.com/forums/computer-systems/56924-kramer-other-members-promoting-water-cooling-you-have-alot-answer.html
  20. .... by hiding the evidence. A curious case which tends to suggest some skullduggery in an infamous shooting spree whole article here http://www.naturalnews.com/026682_Chi_health_mental_health.html
  21. Neat. Derived from tally sticks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tally_sticks
  22. Indeed congrats Mfred. Is this barrier at 1000 difficult to get over - should you not make it lower/easier?
