  1. What do you guys think of this radio commentary? Former British Army chief Lord Richard Dannatt tells #TimesRadio that President Zelensky should ‘start negotiating’ with Russia as ‘Russia is not going to lose this war.’ YouTube clip He seems to be confident that Russian Forces will never be forced out by the Ukrainians, contrary to our general consenting views, herein. He thinks the Ukrainians will never be strong enough. He doesn't seem to take into account the mobilization on the UA side, OR the equipment and material still coming/arriving from the West.
  2. That's some pretty flat ground to attack across. In either direction . . .
  3. I've been playing Combat Mission on a mac since 2000, you'll be happy to know. (They make a version of the game for Windows/MAC) Edit: Oh! And welcome to the thread
  4. Hmmm . . . looks like it drove up on the guard-rail and got high-centred. Mobility kill? Edit: The driver rolling up on a well marked verge might have something to do with the 420 stencilled on the turret side
  5. Ha! I saw that, unless someone else is speaking eloquently about the war while using the exact same handle
  6. Ukraine to get Leopard 2 tanks? Sorry if this has been posted before . . . That seems like a great development. Any ideas on how many tanks? BBC article Switzerland says Germany can transfer Leopard 2 tanks once owned by the Swiss army
  7. There has always seemed to be a large amount of Canadian fans/players/contributors to Combat Mission. Seems to me it was partly because the Canadian forces were included in that very first CMBO game. Til Steve and Charles came along, I'd always had trouble finding wargames with Canadians on stage.
  8. Amazing. what type of AT weapons are in use there?
  9. I recognize its an emotional argument, but part of the reason I worry is because Russia is such a contemptable, murderous, corrupt, dishonest, unprincipled and immoral foe that I fervently hope and anticipate nothing good to happen for them. At the same time I hope for exceptionalism and unending successes to the Ukrainians battling for their lives and homeland. Any success for the Russians is too much. They deserve none. And it's frustrating when they do find some, here and there. That's war, of course. Hats off to those of you that can remain objective. Question. Haiduk reported on the unexpected/un-ordered retreat of a territorial defense unit that may have unhinged part of the front lines and allowed for the most recent Russian gains. What would happen to a unit in the UAF after pulling off a move like that? What size unit are we talking about? Battalion sized?
  10. In all this discussion on the bridge crossings, I've missed what direction the Russians were attempting to cross in the pictures above.. Are the photos oriented as North being top of picture? Based on the big strat maps, the Russians would have been trying to cross the river from North West to South East. (left to right, in the images above). But the tanks and wrecks all seem to be pointed south in the pictures, as if having crossed from top to bottom in the pics. Assuming(!) the top right bank of the river is East, wouldn't the tanks be pointed / driving in that direction (bottom to top)? Any help?
  11. I expect that if us Canadians went ahead and initiated an unjust, illegal and war-crime-filled attack on, er . . . Greenland(?). Then I wouldn't be surprised if Canadian War Memorials throughout the world (Holland, Hong Kong, Korea etc.) were defaced with Polar Bear graffiti.
  12. It's a joke. Special effects. They didn't actually pull those tanks off the memorial.
  13. The antidote to Cognitive Dissonance (it would seem to me), is having some humility and introspection. The ability to say, "hmmm, how did I screw up, here?" And, "I screwed up." Seems to be lacking in a lot of people on this planet.
  14. @Paper Tiger Just wanted to pop in here and give my thanks to the author of The Scottish Corridor campaign. having a hell of a good time. Finding the computer A.I. plans quite crafty and unpredictable, which is a feat in itself. Lately, as I drift of to sleep at night, I'm thinking about how I could have done better by that lonely platoon leader. Or which way I should plan my attack on the morrow. Cheers! Gpig
  15. Igor Girkin sounds like he’s been reading the forum, here.
  16. "War means War" BBC - Russia's Lavrov, latest comments . . . Okay. This is a little unnerving . . .
  17. From the BBC Explosions reported in Kyiv Several loud explosions have been heard in Kyiv in the past few minutes. Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko wrote on Twitter that she heard three explosions "one after the other". "The air raid warning has been on for an hour. Most likely #putin gone livid because of the #Moskva sinking," she added, referring to the reported sinking of a Russian warship. One eyewitness told a BBC correspondent that the explosions took place in the south-west of the Ukrainian capital. Explosions have also been reported in the southern city of Kherson, according to Ukrainian media. It comes after Russia threatened on Wednesday to strike Ukraine's command centres after claiming that Ukraine had attacked Russian territory.
  18. Perhaps an Operation Chariot St Nazaire Raid WWII
  19. This assessment sounds like she is still under her own power (I was hoping to see a capsized hull in a satellite pic). BBC "Kirby said the damaged Russian warship was afloat and "making her own way across the Black Sea" - "probably" for repairs at Sevastopol in Crimea."
  20. That kind of confusion must be rampant, even in the most professional armies. Reminds me of my very first combat training, 1986. Up ahead out of sight, the front of our infantry column gets ambushed in the woods. The rest of us on alert in all directions, see some soldiers running through the woods. Me excitedly plinking away them (using blanks) until my CPL smacks me on the helmet. "Those are you're guys, idiot!"
