  1. Yup. I've seen the same thing happen with my assault guns. Once, I spent 5 painstaking minutes maneuvering my StuH42 into position to pummel some engineers in Vossnak. I carefully avoided enemy tanks and bazooka teams and found an ideal spot with great LOS to an american held heavy building. But I plotted my StuH's final movement points a tad too close to a building and it took two whole turns to rotate and finally fire ONE shot. Then the game ended. I guess the assault gun got stuck in a shop front window or somthing. Frustrating, but it felt "realistic." Now I'm just careful where I plot. Gpig
  2. Thanks to you all for the amazing responses. Always a pleasure to dip into the pool of knowledge. Gpig
  3. Uhhhh . . . Anyone know anything about Russian Engineers/Flame weapons? (Other than Molotov cocktails.) Gpig
  4. Sergeant Saunders wrote: You ever hear of a Moltovi Cocktail? The Russians on the Eastern front invented it. Uhhhh, yes. Heard of them once before, I think. I was asking about Russian Engineers and flamethrowers, though. I assumed EVERYONE knew about Moltov cocktails. Gpig
  5. Don't know ANYthing about Russian force compositions from WWII except what I've seen on T.V./Movies, and read in books. (And I've only read ONE book about the Eastern Front. Stalingrad.) I was wondering if they (Russians) had the equivalent of Pioneers/Engineers and if they will be represented in CMBB. Will/did they have flame teams? Flame vehicles/tanks? I don't recall ever seeing the Russians wielding the ouchy heat. Anyone? Gpig
  6. Sure thing! I've had a couple of the above playtesters get back to me with good results. I'll send it to you shortly. I've been trying to complete the second CC2 battle in that operation (Son Bridge), but have found it difficult to create the bridge blowing scene. When played against the A.I., you have to be the Germans (to keep the German bridge blowing 240mm F.O.'s true to their task). But when playing as the Germans in playtesting, the Allies never try and cross the bridge and take it. (Maybe their scouts spotted the locked 240mm TRP in the middle span of the bridge. ) I've even made sure it is an "Advance" operation. Maybe I should just make it a battle, instead of an operation. Have reinforcements arrive piecemeal over the course of a 40 turn battle. Oops, rambling. anyway . . . if anyone is interested, I've been making a lot of the old CC2 battles, more out of nostalgia than anything. Some of the maps in CC2 were so much fun to fight over, that 3d versions are just aching to be done. To date I've done the Oosterbeek railbridge, Oosterbeek LZ, Son Town, Son Bridge (actually, I'm going to re-do this one). Later. [This message has been edited by Gpig (edited 04-02-2001).]
  7. I've recreated the CC2 battle for Son Town. You remember the map where the US paratroopers start out in the canal, at the far right edge of the map? The town is lightly defended by Germans (with a few nasty HMG's), and an AWFUL 88mm! The force mix is slightly different from CC2 (since CC2 didn't model platoon organization like CM does), but I kind of averaged it out to 1 U.S. para company, VS 1 Security platoon (reinforced). Plus an Flak88. I've play tested it from both sides (vs AI), and won major victories for both sides. So, despite the lopsided force balance, it can be a massacre for the Americans. I'm not sure what forces were historically present at Son Town, for the Germans. I'd like to hear what you all know about the forces present. (It was the 101st airborne, for the U.S., right?) Later, Gpig P.s. It might take me a few days to email the scenario to anyone interested. Bit busy, these days. P.P.S. I'm also working on the next battle, for the Son bridge. It's going to be an operation, with a German counter-attack (if the allies fail to capture the bridge on day one.) I'm going to try and recreate the bridge blowing event with TRP's and "honor-system" 155mm spotters. For the bridge blowing to work, this would have to be played by real people. Or the Axis side, only.
  8. *****SPOILSPORT ALERT******* So I'm playing a 3rd Party operation called "Assault on Guttendorf" (which I opened up and modified a smidgen - allowing the Axis defender to place units freely. Some were padlocked in strange areas.). It's a great map, and a fun battle. Kudos to the designer (whoever he/she may be). My Canucks have advanced real well but have hit a major sticking point. A King Tiger hanging out in a wheat field, right behind a furiously burning wooden bunker. Definitely a hellacious sight! I have ended up sending everything I've got at this beast. Started out by popping up one of my fireflies from 900 meters away (hunt/reverse/hunt/reverse). Took a total of 12 shots. 6 hits. Now it's dead (my firefly, that is). Then I added a couple of sextons (hit that darn cat 3 times with sexton AP. No good). Then started dropping 4" arty on it (Buttoned him). Added flanking fire from 3, 75mm Churchills (even the rear hits deflected). Close assaulted with an engineer squad and a rifle squad (now both broken and scattered). Had two PIATS give it a go (both now dead). Then I started getting desperate (stupid). I rushed it with my two remaining fireflys (one of them veteran) and one sherman III. My rush was a tad ill timed, and I lost all three to the bas***d. Oh yeah, a fighter bomber took three passes at it (rockets/bombs/strafing) and managed a Track Hit (no effect). Through all this, said King Tiger has not even moved, except to rotate his hull/turret this way or that. (I can just see the crew in there, playing chess and humming alehouse tunes while occasionally glancing out a window to check the scenery.) Ok. So NOW what? I must have scored 20 hits on that sumbeach, and NOTHIN'! Then the battle ends. Night falls. And now I'm starting the 3rd battle (out of 6) knowing that darned CAT is out there. In the dark. Waiting for me. Unbuttoned. Yikes. Help? [This message has been edited by Gpig (edited 03-12-2001).]
  9. Nyuk, nyuk. Watch out . . . when you least expect it, she'll whip out her big guns and render you silly faced. Thanks for all your helpful suggs. Loved 'em. Guess they'll be all I'll have to keep the small dying Combat Mission related nugget of hardened synapses firing away maddly in my battle hardened nub of a brain, all these cold winter nights. I think my wife might soon regret her actions when she realizes how useless I am without my CM fix. Looks like I'll have to take up cooking, or vaccuming.
  10. Hi. Sad day my friends. Last night, my wife had enough. She snapped. Took my combat mission disk away. Hid it. I'm greatly saddened. In a way, I'm ok with it. Need more sleep, anyway. I had actually broken a promise to her about never playing the A.I., and only playing PBEM games. So I kind of deserve it. (Can't be breaking promises to the missus, eh?) Who am I kidding. I'm on the verge of a major malfunction. Need my game back. (Breath, breath . . .) Addict. Somebody help me . . . Sad day my friends.
  11. Hmmmm, no landrovers? I'm no historian, but please correct me if (and when) I'm wrong, but wasn't there British Long Range Patrol units in the desert like the SAS? Didn't they do behind the lines kind of action on the DAK, using landrovers? I'm basing this recollection entirely on some old model kits I remember seeing, with Brit Commandos on these "landrover" like trucks, all kitted out with extra jerrycans, bedrolls, MG's and stuff. Real awsome model. Was that *not* a landrover? And if not, what were they called? Tanks
  12. I'm playing a PBEM where my Hellcat crested a ridge and spots a Kublewagon about 300 metres away. He shoots a smoke round at it. What is THAT about? I'd say it's a problem. You?

  14. Yo! Please send me a copy, eh? jackiem@sirius.com I'll let you know what I think. I've personally been looking for some good "Cdn's in Holland," scenarios. I'd love to see some more. (I'd like to make some myself, but I just don't have the time.)
  15. I'd love a shot at them files. Please send me the "5 in one Skorzeny" file to; jackiem@sirius.com Thanks
  16. Please send me the "beta" version. Sounds AWSOME!! jackiem@sirius.com
  17. Man. I've posted the almost exact same message to this forum, and I know exactly what you're talking about. I too, did not get any helpful responses. It is plainly and simply, a PROBLEM. Once everyone who plays this game actually has this happen to them, then they'll be able to understand. Tanks 15m away, in the wide open, should not remain unspotted. Period. Even when I had an ambush marker on the exact spot where the enemy tank "sound contact" symbol (and later, the actual tank) appeared, the tank shot me through my turret without me ever seeing it (till I bailed out). Whatever. Still love the game.
  18. I have recently experienced the same odd sighting behaviour. While playing as the Germans , I had a Panther and a Mk 14 hiding in ambush along a lane of Bocage. They were about 200 meters from a T intersection (the allied advance would soon come to that intersection). Then I saw the sound contact graphic for an allied tank approach the intersection. Due to the Bocage bordered roads, there would have been no other approach possible for the tank (the time frame was *before* the bocage cutting rhinos had been attatched to allied tanks). Both of my tankers had perfect line of sights on the intersection and ambush markers in place. I watched the sound contact tanks (first tank had been joined by another) come to the intersection, stop, turn their turrets and start shooting. Both my Panther and Mk 14 were taken out in two shots. The next turn, my bailed crews spotted a firefly and and a m4 II (canadian). I was a bit miffed, to say the least. How could my tankers have not seen them tanks turn that durn corner? All experience levels were regular. (Clear day.) This actually happend a couple of times in this scenario (downloaded from the Canadian HQ website: Steel Fields). Very frustrating. Any ideas? I may be beating a dead horse, here . . . but having my spotting abilities reduced while hiding in ambush seems a smidge idiotic. If I've got a perfect line of sight on a trigger area (and can hear enemy armor coming), I wouldn't put on a welding helmet once I decided to hide and ambush that spot. Seems that if you're hiding in ambush, you're spotting abilities should actually increase (at least in the target area). Hmmmm?
