I don't own a mac (since '95) so I can't say what the gameplay is like on those machines, yet it can't be much different than a pc. I played WWII Online when it first came out. Man, you want to talk about a peice of crap! The dev team swore by their armor realism even after having it explained to them that engine blocks don't survive well against 20mm shells. And yes, I know what I'm talking about. DT does have it's flaws that annoy me to death, yet it's one of the most addictive online games I've found in a loooonnnggg time that doesn't involve killing dragons, getting gold, and chasing after cute elves! As far as realism goes for DT; let me say that even though I get fragged alot (I love to take chances) and sometimes I feel like I was cheated on a shot or kill; as a Combat Missions player I'll stand by Battefront's ability to recreate ballistics and armor factors every time. The reviewer probably got on and had Sabot3 smoke him one to many times so he was in a bad mood when he wrote the review! Schmeltz

You mean a road side bomb? An I.E.D? Pro's would be, well, boom! Con's are waiting, waiting, and waiting. Few use Inf as is. To set them up as "campers" waiting for a Thor to drive close by would rarely be used, IMO.

Careful of the "Start-Up Mines" as I'll call them. Seems there are mine looking objects on the battle map that do nothing. The dropped mines however; seem to work. You can tell the "start up mines" by the fact that they are always by themselves. Dropped mines cluster. Just yesterday I was teamed with a player who actually used a Cutter to clear a path! That's right, someone used a Cutter! And oh, BTW, I blew up on a mine yesterday also.

If the Ion weapons will "melt" through dense metallic compounds then wouldn't the effect on your concrete be extreme drying (turning it to powder) followed by the melting of chicken wire; causing it to crumble away?

I like some of the inf ideas. The pod idea as in game now is loads better then the dropship but individual pods per man would be great for hot drops. I must fully agree with "no crawl" being a problem. I think it's been stated before that the infantry movement leaves much to be desired. Not sure how much improvement can be done considering the game engine lookes highly geared toward vehicle movement. I love the addition of inf to the game as is, but it certinally would be cool if inf moved more akin to the FPS's I'm sure most of us are used to.

Ohhh, I wish I had more play time with all the cool idea's being tossed around!

Schmeltz is in game and on weekends 'round 2 or 3 EST. Some eve's as rl permits. To find me just look for the guy getting smoked often:)

I'm getting three at 1.02 and one demo server. Anyone seeing more or do I have a bad setting?

I understand the concerns and fight over tank superiority but I found that the Shermans did suck. I thought myself when I first started playing that the Sherman was way under simulated or that the Panthers and Tigers were overly tough (a bit gamey?) However after looking into it I found that we as the American force were quite lucky that the Germans ran out of gas. Thats right if they could have kept the petrol flowing they would have rolled over us. Thank God for the men who flew the B-17. ------------------ "Free your mind!"

I was in the infantry and the proper military response to arty was, and I quote what we were told by the C.O. "put your noses in the dirt and start praying cause it a long ride to hell." And thats what we did.

I noticed this a while ago but thought I'd put a word in myself. I set up an easy QB just to mess with the beta release. I had a Sherman V shoot at few Germen jeeps. I watched from behind the jeep a ground level, saw the Sherman fire and watched the shell come in, hit the jeep, the jeep blow up and the poor driver end up on the ground. Very nifty indeed. ------------------ "Free your mind!"

Personally I recommend staying away from the big boy names. I had a local shop help me out designing my box for 1800 bucks. I of course did a lot of research before picking parts. a short list: PIII 500 Mhz 128 Megs of 100 SDRAM 17 Gig HD 19" AOC spectrum 7Vlr Monitor Pioneer 10X DVD 32 MB Diamond Stealth Video card GNT 5000 speakers with powered sub This was almost one year ago and the only thing I can complain about is the video card. Diamond is now defunct and I'm really eyeing up a Prophet. When I bought this box 133 Mhz Ram was a bit new and more expensive but is now reasonable. The new 1.2Ghz Athlon got rave reviews in Computer Gaming World (CM made one of the best games of the year in the January issue also! ) Hercules Prophet MII is a good card for about $120. To give an example of the big houses for computers though a friend of mine just got a Gateway piece of crap for $1700 a month ago and mine being a year old still put it to shame right out of the box. Not to mention they add a slew of unneeded system bogging junk to the installs. I've heard good things of Dell but that's about the only one of the Big Boys. You could always treat yourself to computing bliss if your not going to play a large list of games and get a Mac G4 cube. They scream through graphics. ------------------ "Free your mind!"

Not to take away from the Latin lesson but I have found a similar bug occur in the Paris scenario that shipped with the game. I haven't tried since the update but here it is. Playing as the Allies in the Paris scenario the reinforcements come in at the oddest points. Mostly made of tanks the fist batch once showed up INSIDE the buildings near the starting edge, the second group appeared at the opposite end of the map with one in the water. Thats right, smack dab in the water. Needless to say he was completely worthless.

Yeah!! Thanks for working hard BTS. Now if you could make a patch to give my tanks lasers, that would be appreciated. ------------------ "Free your mind!"

WWIIonline looks cool but could end up a nightmare. The idea of controlling different units in conjunction with other real life players is a cool one but some things come to mind. How do you set up a start point for people who play at different hours of the day? What if my commanding officer decides he's gonna play something else without telling anyone right in the middle of a large invasion. Neat idea, lot O' questions. I'm gonna wait and see the thing up n' running before I get my hopes up. Besides it's a premium online game, CM costs nothing after you buy the CD ------------------ "Free your mind!"

I'd like to add a little into the fray. First off on processors. Anyone notice how mac CPU's are topped at about 500Mhz. Well trust me they are faster then a PIII 1Ghhz chip. The language is different and so is the data pipe. I used to run a 90Mhz Mac against my buddies 90 Intel chip. Night and day! We compared Doom and the Mac won hands down. It's because of the language people. I don't want to get into the Mac VS. Wintell system debate (I run a wintell system now because basically Bill Gates runs the market on games and Steve Jobs still hasn't figured it out!) The thing with a console system is that the chip set is dedicated to running video games. It doesn't have to be as versatile as the box your looking at now. Basically a console is one kick butt video card with a cd drive attached. I think that consoles are a good game medium for some types of games, but I also agree that in two years the computer will be mopping up the consoles on pure power. Remember that the shelf life of a console system is about five years, a computer we get new stuff every six months to a year. So I guess it boils down to not the power of the systems or comparing polygon rates or Mhz but how much money your willing to spend. $300 on a console every five years or $300 on a new video card every year and an all around upgrade or completely new system about every 3-5 years. Don't bust my balls here the numbers are average, some wait longer, some buy new every year. ------------------ "Free your mind!"

My problem isn't Z buffing but something completely different: Time Reletive Gaming Feature (TRGF). Time on my computer while running CM seems to go faster then it should. I've reset the clock, checked the battery, and replaced the internal flux capacitor inside the video card and under the CPU. Nothing has worked so it must be a programming error in CM. This should be fixed as I'm sure others have had the problem and it is making CM players stay up too late and late for work. C'mon BTS get on the stick here.
