  1. I love it! All I really know about WWII i've seen in B/W videos and pictures. Heck, when I see a color photo or film from WWII it almost looks wrong. Anyone else think that way?
  2. I make both the VR panoramas and VR objects using Apple's Quicktime VR authoring studio and some work using Live Picture's PhotoVista panorama program (mac/win). Apple is releasing some new Quicktime VR software that will allow better spherical representation rather than cylindircal. This will allow really wide angle lenses or fish eye lenses set inside a tank turret to create spherical panoramas so you can see all the way around in a turret or tank interior. I'll keep you posted, or email me and I'll help you get VRs and panoramas made. Scott
  3. I just spent a weekend in Aberdeen at the Proving Grounds and took about 3600 digital photographs of every single tank, and gun. A lot of the photos are to be stitched together to make 360 deg. Quicktime panorama movies and Quictime VR objects, where you can rotate a tank on your screen. Here is a link to a couple objects and VR pans I am showing the proving grounds to help them with their informational kiosk and web site. http://www.karchfamily.com/aberdeen/index.htm I'll post my whole site as soon as I have the time to organize all the photos. Let me know if you are interested in the VR objects and I'll let you know how to take the pictures. I'd be more than happy to create the VR pans or objects for you. scott karch scottandwendy@mac.com
  4. I have to say, given the option of new pricing or TCP/IP, if this new pricing is going into the same patch and this will delay the release of IP, then I say hold off the new pricing until the next patch or CM2. Scott
  5. ------------------- This rarity system will just add complications and shut down choices. ------------------- I agree it will add the complication of having both players decide on which system to use, and to explain to people the reason/use of it. But the only time I see it removing choices is when you turn it on. Most of the time I want to fight with as accurate a force as possible without going through all the trouble of researching what vehicles can be used when. Of course, sometimes it is just fun to grab 5 king tigers and go stomping across a field!! M, I understand what you are saying, but I think that the casual gamer will just leave it off, default, and the Grognards will generally leave it on. Scott
  6. Great thread, great game. This looks like a closed thread, but I see 2 options for handling the "rarity" factor. One is to change the price of an item making it more expensinve, hence prohibitive, when it wouldn't have been a normal vehicle for the time period. The other, less fun, option is to never change the price, but if the computer decides that JagdTigers of Super Pershings were not available, well, you don't get no JagdTigers or Super Pershings. This way there wouldn't be the option for an excessive number of Uber tanks if you were lucky. If you get the chance to buy them, it's at normal cost, otherwise you just can't buy them. I'm sure the SS were constantly "wanting" more King Tigers, but sometimes they just weren't available. If you want everything available all the time, just turn off the "rarity" option. I know I have seen books on frontline aircraft availability month by month for Germany, are there equivilent tables for tanks and the Allies. The software could just view this data keyed by the date of the scenario and decide if a tank would have a chance of being in a battle or not. Rambling a bit, but just my 2cents Scott
  7. Mac users looking for an easy way to send PBM files back and forth, I have an applescript app that works great. Edit the script with Script Editor and set the properties... property toName : "Scott Karch" property toAddress : "scott_k@facilitywiz.com" property GameName : "Combat Mission Turn" to the person you will be sending the file to and the scenario name. Save the changes and then drop a PBM file onto the app. It will fire up Outlook Express, create a new email, add the PBM file as an attachment, title the email "Combat Mission Turn (& time and tade stamp)" and address it to them. All you have to do is hit send. If you have multiple people you send games to, just duplicate the app and change the parameters for each PBM. The file is at my FTP site. ftp://karchfamily.com/ASIP_HD_1/CombatMission/Mail_turn_to_Scott_K.hqx It's Outlook Express only right now, and I have don't know enought about windows to make a cross platform app. Hope you enjoy it. BTW, I've never played a PBM yet, so if anyone is looking to play a beginner, let me know.

  9. "disabling Classic RAVE lets CM start with mac os 9. i made it to 1st turn orders phase in chance encounter, presumably it works after that" Disabling CLASSIC RAVE works for me on my iMac DV when running OS9. Just played a full game today. Can't get it to run in X yet though.
  10. How about taking counter battery fire into account. Just because you buy the atry, doesn't mean you get to use it. Maybe you could use your own arty rounds for counter battery fire if they are large enough and could have the range. I mean you couldn't call counter battery fire from offboard 105s to counter 155s. There must be some way of handling it. It would suck if you lost $$$$ of artillery you bought, but that's war. Scott Karch
  11. I'm running CM on last model iMac DV (grape) I purchased last March and haven't had a bit of problem with it. No problem with the latest sound sprocket either. List your model iMac, OS and I'll try and help you out.
  12. I think the best way to take screen shots on the Mac is using Snapz Pro 2 software by Andromeda Software http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/Products/SnapzPro.html You can specify what format you want the capture saved as, jpeg is one. You can even capture quicktime movies from the screen. The other option I just tried was taking a screen shot and then opening it with the quictime picture viewer and exporting it as a jpg. You probably need QT Pro for that. And if that fails, Graphic Converter http://www.graphicconverter.net/us_gcdownload.html It is a fantastic bitmap converter.

Be sure to label cross platform files with the correct 3 letter extension for windows users to view them easily. JPEG is .jpg and TIFF files get shortened to .tif [This message has been edited by karch (edited 09-15-2000).]
  14. Hello everyone. I've been skulking around the list for weeks now and am in love with the game... as well as the mods. Does anyone know what percentage of players are Mac users? Just curious.
