1. The Ranville position of guns is key and if the Germans can not neutralise them with Mortar fire then the reinforcements are dog meat.

The 6pdr is a nice accurate gun when compared to some of the stuff the Germans have. Of course lady luck can throw the dice your way but when you even it out it makes it tough for the Germans.

Also the Allied tanks have a good turn of speed and for close in fighting they run rings around the Germans.

    Wouldn't you say KingFish?

    LOL

Another to the list of Congrats.

Tis a pity though as I feel we might be missing some of those great scenario designs if he is off being the President?

  3. Those Averages do make interesting reading. I agree with CA on Duel, although I lucked out in my approach to that game.

As for Ranville you have hit the nail on the head and it does depend on the Allied use of their armour and anti armour assets.

As for Real Guts we have talked about that and I can not visulise well how your opponent set up his PB's. If you have a saved game on that I would like to see it.

P.s. Did my rockets hit anything?

Go and eat a Fish or Somdthink.....

Seriously I did not have the heart to write a AAR for our replay of that game. I think you would agree once you know what to do the Germans would be hard pressed to win it.

Even with the H/T Flam wagen...

Seriously, I am looking forward to reading the AARs of the guys who triumphed as the Brits in that one, because it was clearly beyond me at the time I was playing it. Although I will say that the turn in which I lost all hope cost me a full nights sleep, literally.

Bad news on the sleep, the whole set of games were very consuming of mental and nervous energy.

I will send you the AAR and in return ask for yours.

  6. Well just scanned the latest spreadsheet and it makes interesting reading.

Good news on the release of the completed games now the debates can begin.

Duel at Dompaire is it balanced?

    Ranville is it balanced?

Real Guts is it balanced and what on earth did I do wrong.

To kick it off I think Ranville is not if the Allies take certain actions. There is little the Germans can do to counter it and will lose.

Duel seems to be balanced against the French although I had some good luck against Tom who thought I had employed a witch doctor on my side.

As for Real Guts it seems balanced but I got hammered as G and I am not sure how I could have done better. I suggest TRP's for the Germans in that one.

Anyway good that we can talk about Ranville without the worry of upsetting game play.

Thxs just read it, sat at work at mo.

I did not realise you had your hands on this? Has it been released?

I will use it to send to CDIC and yes you guessed right.

I guess you have seen the spreadsheet?

Any chance of sending me any of your AAR's? I will send you mine.

    ;)

IRL The house is a mess and I am trying to Project Manage the Builder, Plumber, Carpenter and Electrician. I am also learning all their trades to check up on what I need to do and what they should be doing.

Last week I was fixing broken boilers and this week I am mainly discovering the joys of bathroom lights and IP ratings.... All in my spare time.

I am trying to fit in some games between all this.

CDIC I am gate crashing but I want a crack at defending in the game we played. It may not be a very balanced game when you know the crack before we start playing but it will be interesting to see how you preform the attack with what you know of the defenders set up.

I will send the file tonight if you agree?

Thxs Redeker. I was going to log on last night and finish the set up for Combined Arms but I have a similar problem to you.

We have a 300 yr old house which is at the moment like a building site as we are having a few things modded. The last two nights the boiler has played up and I have had fun and games trying to get some heat into the house.

I have set aside tonight to get some CM in and if all goes to plan will send AAR's back to you.

Considering the fun of this Tourney I would love to get in on another one if the house and partner will allow me.

Right now back to work and building up savings to pay for my building site.

The V2 was a big worry for the Allies as it did tremendous damage and could not be countered other than destroying the sites they were being launched from.

The course of the military campaign in Europe was to a large extent dictated by the use of these weapons as the Allies tried hard to remove them from use. This is after the intial invasion.

A big worry. If there had been more or if Hitler had developed an Atom bomb and deployed it with these V2's then the war could have turned a different way. This is one weapon that we were very lucky it had hot been developed until too late.

America made big use of the technology and scientists after the war and this gave them a lead for some time over the Soviets who had captured some of the rockets but not the scientists.

  11. For what it is worth.

I would think a 15 turn game a tad short and 20 to 25 would be my favoured time frame.

As CA points out, those in the know may have a reason for 15 to 20.

I would guess that the results of these final games would be be known very quickly as I am guessing the players that make it through are going to turn around the turns very quickly.

BTW I am now back in fog blighted UK and will be firing up the PC for some games this weekend after a 5 week lay off. I am not sure I can play too well and need some practice. smile.gif

Combined Arms I think we have a Railway yard to fight over if I remember right? I will finish the set up and send it over to you.

I have a list of people I need to get in touch with to start gaming with.

    ;)

Glad to see JK is finished I look forward to reading some rip roaring AAR's and tales of woe and mayhem.

    Cheers

  12. Evening All,

Just got into Sydney and failed to get chance to meet up with KR. That will have to wait until another day. Adelaide was great and we must go back. smile.gif

I see that the games are coming on a pace and if I could implore TB to send me an updated spreadsheet of results? To my e-mail address would be great as I am now in Sydney until New Year's Day.

JK I hope your games are going well and you are having a better time. smile.gif

As for the comments about a game that was mentioned previously, that was a nightmare of a game and I was shaking as each turn unfolded. CDIC was my opponent and I am sure that he would concur that game is the most intense of the 7.

Anyway must get back to the BBQ and sink some weak Aussie beer.

    H

P.s. Wreck did you get those AAR's? If so any chance of sending me yours? ;)

  13. Hi,

I am a bit late with my good bye to George. I am sat in an Internet Cafe in Auckland before going out for a few beers with Friends.

I hope it all works out OK George and many thanks for putting up with my game.

Good luck to the new chap and I see old JK has been silent for a bit.

Off to Adelaide in the morning and will maybe catch up with JKR.

Good to see the tourney is moving into the closing stages and that we soon may be able to discuss certain scenarios...

    H

  14. KF hands off....

    ;)

I hope you persuade JK to play that game again with him defending it will give him a new perspective on it.

Well this is the last post for four weeks plus.

Have a Great Christmas and New Year. I am not sure how I will cope being away from the game for so long.

My G/F has promised to take me in hand if I start to shake from the HeeeBeee JeeeBees.

    :D

I will keep an eye posted on the board if I am allowed to visit Internet Cafes or access my friends PC's while in Sydney.

Good luck to all those still playing and "Hi Mom".

    H

  15. Fair point.

Just too mouthy for my own good. :( (Or just demob happy smile.gif ).

As you have finished I will send you and Redeker the AAR. You can have all of mine, and Redeker can have those he has finished.

I don't think what we have said should affect other peoples games but I can see where you are coming from.

Setting up an e-mail group would be the way to go.

The AAR's will be in the post tonight.

    H

P.s. I presume we can trade AAR's with people who have completed those games?

  16. Just got the spreadsheet.

Interesting reading and I might be losing quite a few beers unless the results swing the other way in a certain game.

    :(

As for the completions it seems as if group two are well on way to finishing all the games, followed closely by group 3.

As for the leaders well there are some clear favourites and I will keep stum about who those may be. Of course that might change with the results yet to be declared.

    ;)

If you want to see what I can see then hurray up and finish your games.

Also, I would think that a replay of this scenario (or even some of the other scenarios in the tourney) would yield somewhat skewed results because of the when/where foreknowledge of reinforcement group appearances.

But by saying :- "I will agree that a faster, more aggressive Brit player will tend to do better than a slower methodical one in this particular scenario".

    you have agreed. smile.gif

As I said :- "The game is totally impossible for the Germans to win. (Unless they are very lucky in certain conditions and then it will only be a minor victory at best.)"

I agree that a slower approach will maybe produce a minor Victory for G at best.

So I am glad we agree. smile.gif

Anyway as for replay yes in this "Para" game I do not think replay is very balanced and would choose something else for replayability. Perhaps the French one?

I am trying to get together a report for WB which will rate the games on balance and replayability and pure fun factor. If people could do the same then it would give WB some good feed back on all the effort he has put in in providing us with a lot of entertainment.

    H

  18. Just finished the game replay with KF and the score was 19 to 81.

My most horrible defeat in the "Replay Tourney".

    ;)

The game is totally impossible for the Germans to win. (Unless they are very lucky in certain conditions and then it will only be a minor victory at best.)

    E-mail on way to WB.

Second test being run by JK and Fishman who will IMHO (Well IMO) confirm these findings once they have played it.

How anyone could say it was balanced more in favour for the Germans is beyond me.

    :D

    H

  19. JK a turn has been sent to you and a suggestion of a game to play with a certain Fish Man.

He has just about finished me off and I believe that the game we played is unbalanced in favour of the Brits.

Perhaps you and he could replay it and see if you agree or disagree.

I have sent you one of my turns so you can see the hurt and pain he is inflicting. :(

Good job our game did not go this way or I would be in the poo.

    ;)

    H

P.s. Before we have a long discussion about hindsight I think Fishmans approach could have been taken by a player first time. Anyway I would like to see what you think if you replay it.

As Holien notes, there are indeed two sides to this battle. Do I claim I've fought a perfect battle? Hardly! But I do assert that much of what may appear to be bad decisions on my part is a direct result of what I got, when I got it and where it arrived. Frankly, the coordination of force problem has been so daunting it's a wonder I'm not bald from tearing my hair out. This has allowed Holien to really put the hurts on my guys in succession, while at the same time I'm trying to beat the clock

because of certain dire scenario considerations. And things went badly awry on my rate of advance.

The result is the present do or die attack, which seems to be working and was possible only because I finally was able to work enough men into position to be able to launch it while relatively protected.

The outcome is up in the air, but Holien seems to be sweating. Perhaps I caught him on the hop? We'll see. I sent him a turn.

This text relates in its entirety to the situation Fishman is inflicting on me.

I am being ripped to shreds by his X and His X has started falling on my arrival point. His X has been moved to cover the road and has destroyed X and X on the 1st turn.

The second VL has nearly fallen and it is a long time till my XX arrive which is the only thing that can take his X head on. Until then his X will be the big fish in the pond trying to eat my nippers.

He has plenty of XX and this has slipped past my X with little or no damage. Because his XX are Vets and mine are not I am losing big time to his mass charges and will lose this same game that JK lost and complained about.

Hindsight has certainly helped Fishman but in reality he could have made those decisions even when playing this game blind 1st time. If he did my forces as they are now would be ripped to shreds and I would be complaining that the game is unbalanced.

This is something I think is unbalanced unless you get benefit from the fog of war and that all depends on your opponent. I will bet some beers that many of the other players won this fairly easily as the side JK took. I would say more won it than lost it. I will honour the bet for those who take me up on it at the next London meet.

    H

    ;)

P.s. I am doing a spring clean the cards will have to wait.
